- fivex, on 03/04/2009, -3/+52It's like an Onion article... but it's not...

- Jektal, on 03/04/2009, -1/+25So they sell PlayStations in Afghanistan? Do they just import global titles then? Would be kind of awkward looking at most of the non-sci-fi shooters:
Afghani shopper: "What's this game about?"
Clerk: "You play as an American, and.. uh... shoot brown people."
Shopper: "Really?! ... I'll pass... How about this one?"
Clerk: "Pretty much the same. White soldier, killing us."
Shopper: "... Hm.. This one?"
Clerk: "That one's actually set right here. They did a really good job with the levels! Very authentic!"
Shopper: "And what do you do?"
Clerk: "Kill us."
Shopper: "***** it. Give me Barbie Horse Adventures." - ArenaRon, on 03/04/2009, -1/+23I had to do 3 double checks to make sure this wasn't The Onion.
- skintigh, on 03/04/2009, -2/+24Actually, the Arabs carried on advancing civilization when the West fell into the dark ages around the 7th century, and they invented things like modern banking and cryptanalysis and algebra, and carried the torch until the Renaissance. So if anything, you can call them 15th century.

Islamists aren't necessarily anti-technology. They aren't luddites. That's a common misconception in the west.
The Talibans banning of technologies in Afghanistan was based on conceptions of control, not necessarily opposition to the technology itself. - ifruit, on 03/04/2009, -8/+27It has a modified firmware that disables all images of Muhammad from being displayed.

- Berry, on 03/04/2009, -0/+11"He uses his iPhone to surf the Internet and find difficult locations, employing the built-in GPS"
Good luck doing that with your first-gen, GPS-less iPhone he's showing on the pic. - EmperorPsiblade, on 03/04/2009, -0/+10JOBS BE PRAISED!
- inactive, on 03/04/2009, -4/+13So when is the optional iED attachment being released?
- KnightMareInc, on 03/04/2009, -7/+16its official, apple supports terrorism.

- poidh, on 03/04/2009, -2/+9Put it this way: if a particular technology can be used to further Islamic causes, it is halal; if not it is haraam.
- punkcat, on 03/04/2009, -0/+6i feel a new Think Different campaign in the works...
- danielsamuels, on 03/04/2009, -0/+6Best part of the article:
"Zaeef said he tried to persuade top Taliban officials to let Afghans have more access to modern electronics in the late 1990s, and he noted that the Taliban itself now embraces technology. Militants use remote control devices to set off roadside bombs, and they produce high-quality videos of attacks that they post on militant Web sites."
What a great use of technology! - skintigh, on 03/04/2009, -0/+6Another enemy infected by the West's insidious technology! I'm telling you, just give them a taste of freedom of information and they'll be hooked.
- Thermopolis, on 03/04/2009, -1/+7I know. Especially with this WTF excerpt:
"...he noted that the Taliban itself now embraces technology. Militants use remote control devices to set off roadside bombs, and they produce high-quality videos of attacks that they post on militant Web sites." - yukonblack, on 03/04/2009, -0/+5Obviously the dude was brainwashed and tortured at Guantanamo. That's the whole point of brainwashing. This dude is being used as propaganda so others in Afghanistan will use technology (which is not necessarily a bad thing, them using technology, the whole brain washing part is a bit over zealous)
This dude is like a 'success story', after he returns from Guantanamo, he begins to embrace technology. - Donotsurf, on 03/04/2009, -0/+5Judging by the amount of diggs he had in the last 30 days, I doubt he even read the article.
- superkendall, on 03/04/2009, -0/+5"despite" militant links? How do you think they keep a global organization together, tin cans and string?
- inactive, on 03/04/2009, -3/+7It must really hurt when he cuts off someone's head with that thing.
They are not very sharp at all. - poidh, on 03/04/2009, -0/+4Well probably not.
You see, the Taliban like to live in the dark ages, which is why they ban TV, internet, flying kites etc, and why they allow 9 year old girls to be raped, women to be kept as cattle, etc. And the iPhone is a piece of 21st century technology.
What's odd is that I had to explain it to you, because I think it's quite easy to understand. - j0hnc0ry, on 03/04/2009, -0/+4A militant fanboy?
- Rudegar, on 03/04/2009, -0/+4I for one would like the Mullah's take on the new apple product updates
:) - REM333, on 03/04/2009, -1/+5Why do people still make these stupid first comments? You should know by now that useless comments, especially useless first comments, get buried.
- maxlightz, on 03/04/2009, -2/+6give him a link to some porn and let there be peace!

- Grazfather, on 03/04/2009, -0/+3Hm so which phone is more evil? This guy uses the iPhone but Dubaku used a BlackBerry.
- plainOldFool, on 03/04/2009, -2/+5Will he be trading in his black turban for a black turtle neck?
- BotchaMcCoola, on 03/04/2009, -0/+3Haven't they been using these technologies already for quite awhile? I got the impression from some PBS specials that cell phones are used by Taliban spotters to estimate where best to put an ied and then using cell phones like the Iraqis to time their detonation exactly right.
- akula89, on 03/04/2009, -0/+33 double checks. a total of 6 checks! (or 7?)
- nebkiwi, on 03/05/2009, -0/+3"says he uses his iPhone to surf the Internet and find difficult locations, employing the built-in GPS. He even checks his bank account balance online."
In the picture he is using an iPhone 1g which doesn't have GPS... - Threlly1, on 03/04/2009, -6/+9Odd.
How most religious zealots, whether Christian or Muslim, who's faiths deny science, physics & progress, have no problem embracing high-technology. - Soofi, on 03/04/2009, -1/+4@poidh,
You have your head stuck up your ass and history has documented well the contributions the Islamic civilizations have made.
I wouldn't give you the time of day to respond to your garbage, but I feel it is necessary to say something when you make things up about the religion of Islam and it's teachings and then pass it off as fact. Where is innovation banned or frowned upon?
I already know the answer - you don't have the capacity to comprehend simple English, so most likely you read something against 'religious innovation' (Bidah) which means to introduce something into the religion such as a ritual or saying and then pass it off as Islam, when it was never taught or commanded by the Prophet.
You are welcome to post your rebuttal though, good luck. - phrenzy, on 03/04/2009, -1/+4reminds me of: "Pearl Harbor didn't work out so we got you with tape decks"
- skintigh, on 03/04/2009, -1/+4Totalitarians hate freedom of information and love censorship. Keep this in mind the next time your favorite politician wants to censor something to protect against the latest trend in bogeymen.
- AboveandBeyond, on 03/04/2009, -1/+4Islam does not permit products that rip people off.
- solid12345, on 03/04/2009, -3/+5Well just like Europe fell into barbarism and superstition then, their greatness is over now as well. Why is it so politically-incorrect to state one region of the world is behind the other, it's okay for you to say Europe was behind at one point?
- inactive, on 03/04/2009, -0/+2I still don't get what they had against flying kites.
- JshMRsn, on 03/06/2009, -0/+2wtf?
- iHeartCamels, on 03/05/2009, -0/+2Good point. Maybe he meant the cell triangulation I suppose
