- gfindlay, on 10/12/2007, -1/+55It'll be a screamer when my Mac makes SWEET PHOTOSHOP LOVE TO IT!
- stmiller, on 10/12/2007, -1/+50Here's the changelog:
Photoshop CS3 Beta:
* Re-wrote entire program in Xcode
* Added Intel Mac support - Ramtech, on 10/12/2007, -5/+50Available to download on Friday... Retail on torrents on Saturday...
- TekeeTakShak, on 10/12/2007, -2/+46What's more to love? The fact that,
"In order to download the Photoshop CS3 beta, users will need a valid serial number to one of the various Creative Suite 2.0 distributions." - Rice, on 10/12/2007, -0/+39You need a valid CS2 license. Last time I checked, that still isn't free.
- XxN3RDC0R3xX, on 10/12/2007, -1/+29rtfa
- exsst, on 10/12/2007, -3/+30Give me the freakin' change log!
- deadbaby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19Professionals who make money off the product?
- thasmadawg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18The day has finally come! Screw you rosetta.
- evil-doer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16it does NOT have 90% of photoshops features. give me a god damn break.
yes ive tried it. - RyeBrye, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12People whose companies pay for it?
- Bartboy919, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10actually, The whole dreamworks animation studio is comprised of PCs running on AMD chips
- screamokid, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12yeah but on my g4 ibook it'll be screaming in disgust and disappointment
- jaydj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10not making excuses for not RTFA
but... maybe it would help if topic=Software instead of topic=Apple - LaweranceOak, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Aight looked at Corel, are you kidding me dude. No way it is up there with photoshop! The only way Photoshop is going goodbye is if Apple makes something to compete with it. But that is prob one of the dumbest things they could do. But to say Corel is as good or better then Photoshop is going to make me laugh in my sleep tonight.
- gboodhoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9what are you talking about? I'm sure Corel offers interesting possibilities, but is hardly an industry standard. The Creative Suite is user hostile? Who told you that? The userbase is effectively the entire design industry and in 10 years I've never heard anyone complain about "user-hostility"
People have been burned by various flavors of Corel when sending work for output. The color profiling alone is a major problem. Whether its right or wrong, the industry (video, print, web, gaming, etc.) uses Photoshop because its a workhorse and gets the job done. The only way to get the job done? Hardly, but there are certain things I choose not to think about and prefer them just to work predictably - especially when the clock is ticking and a client/producer is sitting behind me. - kcopp87, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9People who are going into that field in college and get a student discount?
- meamog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7The UI is said to closely resemble Audition 2.0 / After Effects 7's UI. It's nice.
- russellg, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12It's not going to be free - just available to current CS2 serial number holders.
- Wolfbeta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6You mean the 80% of people who will be pirating it.
- Nefir, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8I wish they'd start supporting Linux, at least unofficially. The last two versions are nearly (as far as I know) impossible to get working.
I wouldn't hold my breath though. Looks like we'll be stuck with Photoshop 7 + Wine, GIMP, Pixel, and Krita... none of which are quite as effective.
Sigh... no love for the lunix. - colincornaby, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7It would be cool if Adobe would give out free upgrades to CS3 for those of us who buy CS2 from now on. I would buy CS2 just to get my hands on this beta, but with no nice upgrade path to CS3 (only the usual method of ponying up more money), I just don't see it as being worth it. It would be nice to get assurance that I'll be able to cleanly upgrade to a version that functions fully on the machine I have now when I buy the copy of CS2 that is out now.
- hotspot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Among the many features expected.. Vanishing Point 2, HDR support, rotoscoping, Dicom support, 3D file support, and a fast fourier transform filter.
- meamog, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I used Corel three days a week for a summer at a design job. It was torture. It tried to be Illustrator/InDesign/Photoshop at once - and failed at them all.
- Slipknotic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Hopefully not much.
- gboodhoo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5supporting 3 codebases, only 2 of which are in common use by design professionals isn't a good idea. Back in the day there was a version of PS - version 2 or maybe version 3 for SGI. Which you'd think would be awesome, except the program sucked. The interface standards were anything but, making it like a version of the GIMP (grrrr) that you had to pay for. Additionally, none of the core plugins, fonts, printer drivers, etc. were available for the SGI.
I only bring up the good 'ol days to point out that Photoshop is generally part of a larger pipeline which uses tools commonly available for Windows/MacOS, but not Linux. Not trying to OS bash. Basically don't care what OS I use as long as it integrates with the tools I use (which i care deeply about) - LaweranceOak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I agree with you dude, or some type of forecast to what the future CS3 is going to hold. Photoshop, Indesign, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Flash 9 Pro If this was all annouced as CS3 and would only cost me $400 to upgrade are you kidding me I would do that in a heart beat!
- WiZZLa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The point, screamokid, is that they are done on AMD chips and not Macs.
- meamog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I know the big deal for ME is that this version of Creative Suite will run natively on the Intel Mac I've been waiting to buy.
Leopard + CS3 = big boost in Pro-level Mac sales. - bbxboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Sounds like somebody couldn't afford Adobe. Sorry about that :(
- bbxboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2What, are you kidding? Grow a clue - it's obvious you don't use Photoshop for anything meaningful if you think the upgrades are essentially useless... for building complex files, Photoshop has gotten better and better in meaningful ways.
- maiku00, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2seriously. Ive been holding off on cs2 for like 6 months now, waiting for 3
- Karmalary, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Paintshop is feature limited? You gotta be kidding. It's has one of the largest bases of add-on features (plugins) ever created. Resource hog? I guess if you loaded every single ***** available feature/font/plugin at startup, but you can easily customize that. Hell yes it's expensive, but it delivers what I want and I paid the penny. User hostile? That's a matter of opinion, but having tried almost every paint program released in the last 20 years I rank Photoshop number one in getting the work done, on time, and in the proper format. So do the people I've trained.
- LaweranceOak, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I use Photoshop every single day. For me it makes sense and is exactly what I need and works exactly the way I want. I have never used Corel Design Suite and prob will never try it. But I will tell you this. After reading what you wrote I will give it a look. But from someone that has used Photoshop for over 5 years it is going to have to be freaking amazing to make me stop using it.
But I will tell you one thing, if CS3 is blazin faster on an Intel Mac verses my G5, guess who is going to drop the coin to pick up a laptop! - night000, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I can't wait to pira....I mean buy it when it comes out. Finally photoshop on my c2d iMac will run faster than a g4.
- kcopp87, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3You realize you don't HAVE to use filters, right? I don't.
excluding USM and gaussian blur - cresquin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3@emugd
This is from that company's website:
"TIME IS MONEY!! TELL THEM WHO'S BOSS!
Designers claim to spend hours slaving over their work. Why pay by the hour for their laziness when you can do it yourself?
Earn a second income!
You're creative! Why not make some extra cash while expressing your creativity? Art2Dezign gives you everything you need to be a rockstar designer! Fonts! Filters! Gradients! Design websites for the booming internets and rake in the cash! "
No way I'm downloading that crap. I am a web designer, and it DOES take a long time to make a compelling, prefessional site design. F*CK THEM. - koko775, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2They aren't recoding in Xcode -- the magnitude of the task was far too large. However, you are correct in assuming that they have radically rearchitected their building process so that coding for both platforms is easier.
- etruscan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Well, it's not the changelog - but there is some news about a few of the new features floating around out there:
http://www.jasonpaterson.com/article/adobe-photoshop-cs3-details-leaked/ - Tlogmer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Command+Return (super-zoom).
Or do a google search: hide applciations applescript.
(But yeah, I kind of agree with you. I'm a PC expatriot / macbook user and a Maximize that worked in every program would be nice. Keep in mind, though, that you can click anywhere on a non-foreground mac app without activating controls; it'll just change the focus. Makes things a bit easier.) - frem001, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1educational versions are never eligible for these types of things, you will have to buy a new full educational version to get an "upgrade" to CS3. Can't wait for it to come out, I just wished it was cheaper ( i prefer getting the full version to the educational one even though i'm entitled at the moment)
- inkhead, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It says the beta is "FREE" to owners of CS2, It's a treat for those of us who have paid are hard earned money for Adobe products.
I for one can't wait, even if they didn't add a single feature it's going to be super fast on My MacBook Pro, and on my Mac Pro tower, and I suppose it will be alright on my Dell machine as well ;-) - coffeykevin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Would love to see smart objects reference permanent files, 16bit editing, more use of Quartz for manipulating images, like Aperture .
I bet there's hardly anything different in the beta except native support. It'll speed my day up on this Mac Pro though :) - miccet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You will need a CS2 serial number, any language, in order to get this beta. Not that this is a problem for anyone, but anyways.
- wastern, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3They didn't have to re-write all the code, but they did need to move to Xcode. They were using CodeWarrior I believe. Thats why they couldn't just "click the little checkbox" to get it working on intel, thus everyone has been waiting a year for this release. Moving something as large as Photoshop to a new development platform is no simple task
My MacBook Pro runs Photoshop like a G4......I can't wait to see how CS3 runs on it. - noktulo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It won't accept an educational serial number. I don't understand. I own CS2, why can't I participate?
- macslut, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Please let there be Audition in the Mac version!
- jbdesign, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Adobe educational licenses are most certainly eligible for upgrades and always have been. It's Macromedia that never allowed edu upgrades.
Now, that doesn't mean the beta is gonna install with an edu serial number. - BobbyDylan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Well, I'm waiting with baited breath! Ran down to my local CompUSA store and bought an AMD64 CPU and FoxComm Mobo combo for $149 (us), so now all I have to do is rip out my existing 32-bit chip and Mobo. I can sell my existing cpu and mobo combo on eBay for $50 US, so I can run the new CS3 and Vista.
