- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15The journalist should have said "as InDesign crashed". Unless of course Adobe managed to write such bad code that they caused the kernal space to crash or panic. Beta code can crash regardless of platform, Windows or Mac.
- sherifgmansour, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Not that this is much but:
http://www.digitalmediadesigner.com/articles/viewarticle.jsp?id=43386 - dirka, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4At least make some fake pics if your gonna tease us like that....
- dimplemonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3now isn't Adobe re-writing CS3 from the ground up through XCode because they used to use CodeWarrior? No wonder it crashed but then again, I can't believe they actually have a working demo.
- KSUdesigner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3There's no way they'll change their interface. The interface is one of the best things about the adobe apps....it remains consistent for every major release. Think about it...if they change the interface you're going to have to go search for the tools. I don't want to have to relearn where everything is located and most likely nobody else does either. As far as them being terrified of aperture...isn't that what they created lightroom for? Aperture is NOT a photoshop killer, and never was intended to be. I don't think anything will ever kill photoshop really. Just because the interface of aperture looks pretty, I'll take function over looks any day.
- ana10g, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yes, well I'm sure that writing software as powerful as Adobe's is just a walk in the park. Can't be difficult. Can it?
- scruffles, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"We're investing in workflow" sounds a lot like "we don't have any real features other than 'it runs on intel'". Does anyone know if they are working on any features other than workflow?
- TSugar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This news are too old... about month or more.
Btw. InDesign is just ONE application who have chance to grow-up in adobe suite. I see no actual changes in other products (like photoshop or illustrator) till the version 6 (may be 5). Adobe is too big corporation to listen its users about requested features. Unfortunately they do business instead of software now... (but I'll digg this story). - KSUdesigner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well actually photoshop and illustrator are well past version 5 or 6...just because it's creative suite 2, there have been many versions before they were known as "creative suite." Anyway I get your point, but I disagree. Photoshop alone changed alot between CS1 and CS2. Every program gets some good updates usually, they rarely focus on just one of the apps. I'm just hoping some day they figure out a way to make ONE application with the functions of all of the apps. That would be NICE! But unlikely because they can make more money selling them separately as individual apps...
- spectre_25gt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Do you have any links to support that? That would be a massive undertaking, but could be very beneficial considering how much legacy code is probably built into Adobe's software.
- KSUdesigner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Here's a link to some of the confirmed features of indesign cs3...haven't heard much else other than these.
http://www.digitalmediadesigner.com/articles/viewarticle.jsp?id=43386 - Macintosh, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3It never happened without pictures.
- zonk3r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1While I agree that Adobe has a nasty habit of writing system resource hogging apps, I really doubt this to be the case. The system should just have chugged if that were to happen as it swapped out to disk.
The likelyhood of it running out of swap space is miniscule unless their code is so poorly designed as to never flush code that is no longer used from memory. More likely is that is simply an early demo based on still buggy beta code. I'm not surprised that it crashed really.
Hell, I have CS1 and CS2 installed on my G5 at work and I usually use CS1 as it runs a faster on the G5 than CS2. It is pretty obvious though that CS1 was pretty much abandoned as far as patches go as they started working on CS2. CS1, in particular InDesign CS crashes occasionally when doing fairly simple tasks. Fortunately I've never lost any work when this has happened as it has some built-in crash protection features. - theone3, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Anyone have screenshots?
- deepsub, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That article is worthless without pictures.
It's also worthless without an article.
(I RTFA!) - ronaldpoi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yes, i'm pretty sure there will be new features but obviously they wont tell us now. They're still developing them, so give them some time...
- jesusfranco, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2It would be funny if the Macbook Pro crashed because it ran out of ram (both physical and swap).
Knowing Adobe's tendency of bumping the memory usage in it's programs with every new release I wouldn't be surprised if this was the case. - colincornaby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Porting from Codewarrior to XCode isn't an easy port, but it's definitely not a re-write from ground up port.
- aliguana, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3lol... "We're investing in workflow" probably means "we're busy re-writing Dreamweaver and Flash to use the standard Adobe palettes". I wouldn't expect many new features in CS3, other than a lot of under-the-hood stuff. Still, the release is still a long way off....
- CreativeGuy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Well aliguana, I can tell you with absolute certainty that you have no idea what you're talking about. There are a ton of new features, especially in InDesign and PS, and they have nothing to do with "workflow."
- BWhaler, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0I really hope for the CS3 suite adobe refreshes its interface.
I think there is hope since they have to be terrified of Aperture. Sure, it doesn't do what Photoshop does, but it is a hot across their box and it is a better UI. - computerdude33, on 10/12/2007, -12/+2"There's still work to do, the demonstration confirmed, as the MacBook Pro crashed while being used for this - but the work is taking place."
As much as I like the Mac, this made me chuckle.
