- ThinkBox, on 01/06/2008, -5/+99Wow, the only way I would have known this is if I already had this installed and it gave me an alert that a new version was available!!!!
Haha, just kidding, I just love that Digg updates me on absolutely everything possible, I hope this front pages... and I cant wait til 1.3 when this can front page all over again!!! - mptsxtps, on 01/06/2008, -6/+95needs more video chat.
- 1iProd, on 01/06/2008, -1/+53I'm just glad David got his gerbil!
- mvanhorn, on 01/06/2008, -4/+45That giant adium icon above looks awesome.
- rspeed, on 01/06/2008, -7/+43<record type="broken">It's open source, man. Contribute.</record>
- abtarhar, on 01/25/2008, -2/+37dugg for the nice description.
- elithrar, on 01/06/2008, -1/+35I can deal without A/V support until 2.0 - Adium itself is the best IM app on OS X because of the way it integrates. Drag & drop, transparency and it looks like an OS X application.
- rspeed, on 01/06/2008, -1/+34What do you have against Media Access Control?
- apsk121, on 01/06/2008, -3/+35Aw I wish there was a version for the iPhone.
- atdakore, on 01/06/2008, -0/+28u suck always!
- inactive, on 01/06/2008, -1/+27Media Access Control Operating System?
I don't understand - marcushe, on 01/06/2008, -0/+19People asking for cross-platform versions (Linux, Windows) must realize it's not possible because Adium is near entirely composed of OS X specific API's. Most the amazing features in Adium come from the underlying engine on the Mac that isn't found on or convertible to with other operating systems.
- MethodOne, on 01/06/2008, -0/+17There's Pidgin for that, which comes on most distributions' discs or in their official repositories.
- inactive, on 01/06/2008, -0/+17Sorry, we'll collect our ball and get off your lawn immediately.

Adium/Gaim/Pidgin (more specifically libpurple) still does not have video chat yet. I was reading the developer forums a week ago and half of the developers want to go ahead with the daunting task while the other half of these open source developers were just BITCHING, MOANING, GROANING, and WHINING that it's too much work to reverse engineer the Yahoo video chat protocol. At one point, Gaim (actually a branch of Gaim called Gaim-vv - some of the developers were the same) DID have the capability to vid chat to a limited extent while being buggy. It is a start, but has been discontinued for over 2 years now.
Here is a link to the said source code: http://freshmeat.net/projects/gaim-vv.
... or the libpurple devs could just create a vid chat programs just for libpurple as libpurple can be installed on any computer (when compiled for the platform).
It has been TOO long that this app has not evolved to have video chat; it is just bug fixes in-addition to new mediocre features. It's 2008 for crying out loud! - inactive, on 01/06/2008, -0/+11All the good things about Adium come from MacOS X Cocoa and other technologies, the only portable bit already exists in Pidgin.
- northernmunky, on 01/06/2008, -3/+14MAC? They make cosmetics! I'm sure you'd look great in some fashionable lip gloss and mascara
- adoxtater, on 01/06/2008, -4/+15When they have a version for Amiga, I'll start caring.
- inactive, on 01/06/2008, -1/+11No MSN Games? haha so they're expected to code from the ground up a load of Chess and card games and make them work on microsofts servers?
MOON ON A ***** STICK - MadOtaku, on 01/06/2008, -1/+10If adium looks bad, get one of the hundreds of themes (all customizable), customize the default one, or make your own. The normal Adium looks like balls with my wallpaper and custom dock, so I got a theme I liked.
- atomsforpeace, on 01/06/2008, -2/+11you don't understand how it works, do you?
- DaffyDuck, on 01/06/2008, -0/+8Let me break it down for xdvx the ignorant hater. When three capital letters are strung together it usually indicates a acronym. An acronym is when you take several words and shorthand them by taking the first letter of each word.
Macintosh is often shortened to Mac. MAC is not used in order to not confuse it with other existing acronyms (such as Media Access Control) using the same three letters. - jasarien, on 01/06/2008, -0/+8iChat is great if you're talking to someone who is also using iChat. Not always the case, unfortunately.
- Konstantino, on 01/06/2008, -1/+8Adium 1.1 worked fine on Leopard, what was the problem?
- 1town, on 01/06/2008, -1/+8Yeah, what he said, with the right themes AdiumX is the best looking IM client ever.
- adoxtater, on 01/06/2008, -1/+8I disagree. It has the two most immediately useful links right there. I can download and get the latest version info right there. Granted, it's not pretty :-) .... but I like it.
- Lionhart, on 01/06/2008, -0/+6Some older Macs can't run leopard.
- jasarien, on 01/06/2008, -2/+8They're working on it. If it's that important to you, implement it yourself, or GTFO.
- TastyLamp, on 01/06/2008, -12/+18Would be nice to include what's new in the description but meh: http://trac.adiumx.com/wiki/AdiumVersionHistory
- Ellord, on 01/06/2008, -0/+6It might have been smarter to post the links in the first comment but it's useful nonetheless.

- KAMiKAZOW, on 01/06/2008, -0/+5Some OSX APIs have been ported by Apple to Windows along with Safari. There's actually a CoreGraphics.dll is the Safari folder. Other OSX-like APIs are part of GNUstep, but as GNUstep mainly targets the free OpenStep specifications, some Cocoa additions are missing (mostly "Core*" APIs).
Maybe it would be possible to do a full Adium port using GNUstep and the Safari DLLs, but because the GPL prohibits linking to closed source libraries that are not part of the OS, such a port would be illegal to distribute. - iofthestorm, on 01/06/2008, -0/+5Well, I know in the case of the pidgin devs they really aren't motivated to do anything that they won't use, and none of them apparently use video/voice chat. Also, stupid people bitching about it doesn't help either- see http://developer.pidgin.im/ticket/34
- turpenine, on 01/06/2008, -0/+5I think the majority of people have minimal problems.
- newdigger, on 01/06/2008, -2/+7Is that somehow a downside?
I guess im just one of those few people who have no issues with leopard... - antitab, on 01/06/2008, -0/+5Pidgin?
- darkphan, on 01/06/2008, -0/+5If that fixes problems like that, then there is something wrong with your ISP's DNS servers. That post really should mention that those DNS servers that are being used are from opendns.
- inactive, on 01/06/2008, -0/+5you're an idiot - you can customize it.
- shandar, on 01/06/2008, -1/+6Whatever makes you a happier person.

- bigsteve, on 01/06/2008, -0/+4I might even say the best IM app on any platform. I keep Linux on my MBP for development, and the closest to Adium as far as usability goes is Kopete...
- mrgoat, on 01/06/2008, -0/+4Yes, I agree. I need to show my penis to strangers on the interwebs.
