- inactive, on 10/28/2007, -1/+42Apple sucks for intentionally crippling a device.
- cheesepants, on 10/14/2007, -0/+21Wasn't that supposed to be a bug?
- Maxpower57, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Im no apple hater, but i've been really disappointed with some of their decisions lately.
although they did say you'd be able to add events to the calendar in the future. its ridiculous that it isn't there already.
[cm'on apple. maybe allow some 3rd party apps you hypocrites. just sayin.]
get it together
anyway. nice little hack tip.
I wanna see pics first though - inactive, on 11/06/2007, -1/+13I'm sorry but what has ATT anything to do with the iPod Touch? Why would ATT be against calendar events? Please stop blaming everything on ATT.
- imcquill, on 10/14/2007, -0/+10yeah, Jobs said it was a bug in an email from Apple. But that's almost certainly a lie if it is just a one line plist change.
- RedS0x, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I actually used the Tiff exploit and jailbroke my Touch yesterday. Using an FTP client, you can move applications over to it. It's interesting to note that the iPhone's SMS and Phone applications run on the Touch (of course, you can't place calls or send messages or anything.)
I ended up simply replacing the iPod Touch's Calendar with the iPhone's, this was my solution to adding events. - saleem, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6if you digg over90000 down, the terrorists win.
also, allanpat is a massive apple fanboy for being so blind that he blames ATT for Apple's greed (that they intentionallly crippple the software). - RadiantBeing, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7But Jesus Jobs said it was a bug. Jobsdamnit, I don't know who to believe anymore!
- Clarkeness, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Just add it Apple! for free!
- imcquill, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9I hope they start charging $5 per bit in the iTunes store so I can add events to my calendar.
- largobargo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6suck it steve-o
- afx1, on 11/06/2007, -1/+5i don't know what article you're trying to reply to
- Avian00, on 11/06/2007, -0/+4This just makes me mad. It's a FREAKING variable in a Plist file! Where is the outrage?!?! This is PROOF that it's not a "bug" but an intentional and unreasonable limitation of the device's functionality. This just has to stop.
- dreggen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4This works really well. I've also copied across iPhone mail and google maps to my iTouch and they work great! Now my iTouch is basically a iPhone without a phone and this is the way it should have been in the first place!
- phytonix, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6I am now officially pissed. However I already ordered on iTouch.
Still... If Apple is not going to all these problems, I am not going to upgrade my firmware. - SlpingInsomniac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Why would you be 'pissed' about an article on how to add functionality to the iPod Touch?
- FHKE, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Soon on the iTunes Store you will see: $1.99 for adding Calendar Events...
- afx1, on 10/18/2007, -0/+2but jobs called it a bug! so this article must be inaccurate.
- djh816, on 10/18/2007, -0/+2Bug, MY ASS
- placidified, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2a bug, with a one line fix...how long has the iPod Touch been out now?
- djh816, on 10/18/2007, -0/+2Am I the only one disgusted by Apple's blatant lie? They actually put in an option to disable a useful feature and then lied about it calling it a bug!?
- afx1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2uh huh...you just quoted the article about the ipod touch, not the iphone.
- Elric1977, on 11/06/2007, -0/+2And you got Apps!
- dasunst3r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1When I first read that the iPod Touch won't let you add/manipulate contacts and events, I immediately thought of the Rolodex Rex. Welcome back to 1997, friends!

- dustblaaze, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Wow, so much enthusiasm. Calm down buddy, it's only a calendar.
- Bodhammer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is one the major reasons I have not purchased a Touch. I don't understand the reason to disable this very simple feature. I will buy one when Apple starts treating this device like a PDA and not just a MP3 player. I sold my 4th Gen 30 GB Color iPod Ipod to buy one of these but I'm still holding out until they un-phuck it. If they don't do it soon I will buy a Sensa View 16Gb and not look back.
- nonokiaboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Just out of interest... is there a limit to the amount of calendar entries you can make on a iPhone/iPod touch?

- KevinWhite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If anyone's having trouble doing this for Windows, use this to convert the plist to ASCII:
http://140.124.181.188/~khchung/cgi-bin/plutil.cgi
You don't have to worry about converting back to binary, the Touch will read the ASCII just fine. - eschompthis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1this proves that apple wants excuses for firmware updates. ***** em im sticking with 1.0.2 shame on you apple
- Karmavs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1They're going to, Steve said it himself. And since it's this easy, they'll almost certainly do it next firmware update
- beggersfunk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It works for me ..simply jailbreak easy as a pie!
- tyros8000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1sweet, more hacking lol. i want apps!! then it will be my perfect device :D
- Karmavs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1No. (except of course for the limits of your drive, but you'd have to be crazy to be able to fill that with events
- 68024, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3What's an iTouch?
- 68024, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yep. Exactly the reason why they're not getting my $ this time around. I keep hoping the next round at least some of this will be fixed. Until then, I stay with my old iPod...
- masskurec, on 03/05/2009, -0/+0nice tool
http://xptweak.net - da5id, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Hackers Nicholas "Drudge" Penree and Tony Hoyle have figured out an easy fix that allows you to add calendar events to your iPod touch. You'll need read/write access to your touch and a full jailbreak but once you do, all you need to do is add the following two lines to the N45AP.plist file inside your Core Services' SpringBoard app.
editableUserData
The plist is found at /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/N45AP.plist
Update: Reader Andi notes that you need to put the editableUserData under "capabilities" not under "root" in the property list.
Update 2: If you'd rather use a text editor rather than the property list editor, convert the file to text-based xml. At the Mac command line, you can do this by issuing plutil -convert xml1 filename.plist. To convert back use binary1 instead of xml1. - DookieHole, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The iphone Dev and Elite teams are playing cat and mouse with Apple. Free is good.
- Elric1977, on 11/06/2007, -1/+1Then take it upon yourself to fix it, it's very easy.
- crossers, on 07/12/2008, -0/+0to say the truth, I didn't like appale at all, but this article is good for those who use apple product!

http://www.chasr.org/ - zackymcharvest, on 11/14/2007, -0/+0I know that nobody will read this but if you update your ipod through itunes then no hacking needed : - ) but if itunes dosent think that the update is there(like me) then just do a google search for ipod touch update 1.1.2 and download the file and then open itunes and hold shift and click the update button and find the downloaded file and itunes will do the rest. PS. your ipod might look like its being devoured by the update sending it to ipod heaven but this is normal
- zpjet, on 10/16/2007, -1/+0if you knew mac os x better, you would know there's many examples of hidden preferences (enableable by similar entries in xml preference files - plist) which are disabled by default, perhaps because they were buggy. one example would be setting up different behaviour of expose's "show desktop" feature, as described here: http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20031 ... - although cool, locked up my computer after a few uses. unfortunately this one never made it to official system preferences... hope "add event" will.
- inactive, on 11/06/2007, -6/+2Boycott Apple!
- allanpat, on 11/06/2007, -10/+3isn't this more of a result of their partnership with AT&T? I'm sure if AT&T didn't have a stake in iPhone sales, Apple wouldn't care what features they both shared.
- damage976, on 10/12/2007, -10/+1Finally! Now Apple will fix it Monday in a firmware update and patch the Tiff exploit. And maybe give a facebook button? Tempting...
- da5id, on 11/06/2007, -14/+3Wow. Fantastic. A calendar, right? Right there on your iPhone? Brilliant!
