- justinjacobs, on 10/12/2007, -5/+17I'm sure your mother is very proud of you.
- Arramol, on 10/12/2007, -5/+161) Turn off caps lock - it's rude to shout
2) Use spell check
3) It's 2.33 GHz (that's two and thirty-three hundredths, not two hundred thirty-three), which is an entirely feasible clock speed
4) What the heck are you talking about?! - streak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Not stated in the article: the T2700 supports a higher level of VT virtualization than its predecessors, which support only "VT-x". The VT of the T2700 should allow a more sophisticated and robust hypervisor. The full virualization capabilities in Mac OS X 10.5 "Leopard" might require the T2700 or better (e.g., Woodcrest, Conroe and Merom).
- fohat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5It will be interesting to see if someone can make a go with this chip in a mac mini. Also, this should bring a nice fall in prices soon for duo line.
- norz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2from some other source (whirlpool forum I think):
Ghz? Model Current Price Reduced Price Percentage of Reduction
2.33 Duo T2700 N/A ($637 @ Launch) N/A
2.16 Duo T2600 $637 $423 33.6%
2 Duo T2500 $423 $294 30.5%
1.86 Duo T2400 $294 $241 18.0%
Duo T2300 $241 (Replaced by T2300E) N/A
Duo T2300E N/A $209 13.3% (from T2300)
Solo T1400 N/A $209 N/A
Solo T1300 $209 No Reduction N/A - LaughingMan11, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2There should be no reason why it wouldn't work in a Mac mini. The mini has been upgraded successfully with the T2600 (2.16Ghz) and even a prototype Merom Core 2 Duo, which is socket compatible with Core Duo.

You were modded down because you made an ignorant comment that stopped being funny last year. If you're going to make jokes about tech, you need to know tech.
If you bothered to read the article you'd know that the power consumption on this chip is extremely low and an impressive achievement. Unlike Microsoft, Intel (and AMD) actually innovates. - r0ck3tm4nn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Can we keep him around? Like, if digg.com ever made a parody site (like buried.com or something like that) I'd say this guy should get his own special comment section for each article.
- Eccles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Remember that the Mac Mini has a Core Solo version, which is both slower and single processor. For compile and render farms, this might be a cost-effective upgrade, and certainly will be as the price drops.
- ElectroBot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The question seems to be whether you'd want to perform this upgrade considering that this chip is quite expensive ($??? - probably a couple of hundred) and you don't get much of an improvement 1.6->2.33GHz for the cost.
It be more worth it to upgrade your new Mac Mini (up to a couple of months old by now) in a year or 2 when Core Duo chips will be closer to 3GHz. - nTensify, on 10/12/2007, -6/+7"It's funny the way people here like to bury 2 funny comments that don't offend anyone. "
It's not funny, and it's highly inaccurate (Intel Core chips use less power than their AMD counterparts and perform up to 25% better according to benchmarks). - BugMeNot2, on 10/12/2007, -4/+41W? Wow.
Isn't the Pentium M like ~20W under normal usage?
Anybody know how much this chip would improve battery life? - titlesaysitall, on 10/12/2007, -11/+11Your grammar teacher just commited suicide.
- ElectroBot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The 1.5GHz is a Core Solo. The 1.66GHz is a Core Duo. So for an extra $200 you get a Core Duo that's 160MHz faster than 2x1.5GHz Core Solo (although you don't get double the L2 cache), 20GB more HD space and a DVD-RW instead of a CD-R/DVD drive.
- golddigga, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1the clock speeds don't really work out, a 3 ghz chip made 3 years ago is not gonna be faster than a 2 ghz core 2 duo chip is it. thats what AMDs doing now with they're new chips, i think the numbers are just there to make people say "oh yeah let's buy the 3 ghz core solo one, not the 2ghz core 2 duo".
but i think that apple should keep the clock speeds on them because that's good for them because all of the Joes are gonna get the computers labled with 2.33ghz clock speed rather than an AMD K8L - nTensify, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5Do the math.
Power is voltage times amperage, we know the voltage (VCore), we know how much power it uses (1W), solve for Amps. VCore for these chips is about 1.3V, so .76A (760mA) is its power draw per second. If you know how much your current laptop's full power draw is, just do this math again for its processor, subtract the amount of power that its processor uses out of the system, add the above value in, and you'll know how many mA's the platform uses. Since batteries are rated in mA hours, you'll know how many hours you'll be able to run with any given battery. - Ireland, on 10/12/2007, -9/+8@ Balikbapan.. Your mother smells of elderberries!!
- Lynx34, on 10/12/2007, -9/+7No, his mother is a hamster, and his father smells of elderberries. Get it right.
- Ironman11, on 10/12/2007, -8/+5You're a special one. I've looked at your other comments, and aside from Steve Jobs replacing Bill Gates, you also think that Vista and Leopard are going to be one and the same. Wow.

- foolfromhell, on 10/12/2007, -12/+4Considering it is in Apple Computers, prolly more.

What ?!? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -49/+1OH GREAT HERE SCOMES THE AINTEL MICOROSFT SWTICH CREW AGAIN, TALKIGN ABOUT THE YONAH AND THE JOHN PROCESSORS . WELL ILL TELL YOU WHAT, THIS I THE RUMOR IN HERE IN BANGLADESH: STEVE JOBS IWLL REPLACE MICOROSFOFT CEO BILL GATES AND BILLY BALMER WILL BE THE NEXT LIKE STEVE WONIZANK. THIS IS NOT JUST A RUMOR BUT IT IS ALMOST 100% SPECULATIVE FACT HERE IN BANGLADESH. TALL THESE COMPANIES SOURCE THERE INFORMATIONTAL TEHNOLOGY WORK HERE IN BANGALDESH SO WE HAVE LOTS OF FIRST HAND INFORMATION FOR THE INSIDERS FO THE BIG FORUTNE 4000 COMPANIES LIKE BICORSOFT AND BILL GATES AND APPLE OMPUTER.
INTEL IS OFFERING UP A ROUGE WITH THIS KIND OF CHIP. 233 GHZ ISNT EVEN POSSIBLE AT THIS POINT IN TIME. ITS LIKE ASKING A ROOSTER TO FISH, THI S IS JUST NOT WHAT HAMADI BRAMASH INTENDED.
