Nah, but every person does play chess, edit home movies, designs web pages, and writes music. Cook? Please. Hardly anyone cooks. - JamesWilson, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19Damn Austin looks like he's on meth. :-/

- moisie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14People who cook and want an app to organise their recipes.
- mb309, on 12/31/2008, -0/+12Another excuse to keep the Mrs in the kitchen :P
I jest, I jest. - SuperSunny, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Never judge a quality of work by age. You will regret it sometime in your life.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14Thooper!
- REBELinBLUE, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Oh god I hope they provide an option to disable that and use a plain unified UI. Other than that I'm loving it, although I do wish they'd move the search field to the top right hand corner like every other application
- moisie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9So the cookbook app will be viewable in the same place the actual cooking will be done.
- abohling, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Just buy an old iMac off eBay - that's what I did. It really is handy for looking up recipes in the kitchen plus I can connect to my shared media system, watch online videos and DVDs while doing more boring kitchen things - like washing dishes.
- miles01110, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11Oh great, it's in progress!

Look through the other flickr album.

All that cooking together. How can anyone *not* get wood
...idea. - aychamo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9This whole MyDreamApp thing is such a crock. It's been like 6 months and there's almost no update for any of the apps that won. Meanwhile, PhillyRyu is sitting pretty on a ton of money from it. I really hope the Mac community knows better than to keep supporting this little group of all flash and no code monkeys.
- WraythX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6If they drop the wood (or make it optional) I will definitely buy it. It is a very good excuse for me to get a Mac Mini for the kitchen!!! Even more incentive now that the prices have dropped on the Cinema Displays.
- overmann, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I find it a bit worrisome that people are starting to theme their apps as custom widgets.
He defends their decision and says "that consistency in terms of visual style always takes a back seat to functional consistency", yet they have replaced the "close", "hide" and "zoom"-buttons with identical wooden buttons. - Kazaki, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6What is it with Austin always refusing to just use a standard UI design? And why does everyone freak out over Apple's brushed metal / smooth look thing screaming consistency, and then love the completely inconsistent wood look of this?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9I don't understand why its wood. Not that many people have wood effect kitchens, and books are not made of wood
- moisie, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Woss your average bloke want? Angel in the garden, whore in the kitchen, muvver in the bedroom. No, that's wrong. Whore in the kitchen, muvver in the bedroom, angel in... no, that's wrong as well, innit? 'old up, I'll get it. Angel in the kitchen, whore in the bedroom, an' your mum in the garage. Unless, of course, you've got a flat. An' then you 'ave got troubles! 'ave you read my book? It's called, "In/Out An' Put The Kettle On".
- layfield02, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5For what it's worth, I love the wood look............
- antechinus, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Absolutely. What is more, how hard is it to write a ***** recipe program! This stuff is just kiddies playing with the positioning of widgets in a window - hardly software development.
- timdorr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4But those ones aren't as shiny. I'm easily distracted by shiny objects, so therefore Cookbook must obviously be the better product.
- EndersGame, on 10/12/2007, -6/+10Nah the wood skin actually looks tacky. All the other skins look cool though.
- johnred, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@squantix
So far, you've posted 9 flames here in a span of around 8 hours. You seem to be OBSESSED. - zigziggityzoo, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8Thplendid!
- flatsodadotcom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The wood skin reminds me of Delicious Library.
- realpolitik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Tubular is completely unrelated to Phill Ryu.
And what do you mean by "MacHeist hasn't offered a product". MacHeist was a software bundle sale. Last I checked, customers who bought the bundle received the bundle.
You seem like a reasonable person, but you really shouldn't make such damaging assertions when you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. - pixelmatrix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3this UI is awesome! What a unique idea to create a custom UI with wood for this. I think it paid off well. With so many other alternatives to Cookbook, this UI really helps it stand out above all the mediocre cooking apps for Mac. Great job guys!
Just because different people learn quicker and develop skills like this quicker doesn't mean we have any right to bash them because of their age. I have met Austin and he is a great guy, way more mature than most 25 year olds I know. There is a whole generation of young adults that are developing or have already developed professional skills. - simX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I think he's confusing My Dream App with MacHeist. But they both were spearheaded by the same person, Phillip Ryu.
- cinnix, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5I wouldn't actually mind buying an app like this. It would be a good excuse for me to work more in the kitchen, and eat more healthier. My only fear is that they spend too much time on the interface, and not enough on the underlying code.
- timyjl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I agree, the UI is what sets this app apart from the other Mac recipe apps which are all basically nothing more than an iTunes style database (which isn't a wrong choice in itself). Cookbook too follows this same 3 column concept and then goes ***** with all the cool extras that make it an excellent fit in the geek kitchen.
@squantix
shut-up and go nuke some Easymac®™©. - WraythX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You signed up on Digg nine days ago, submitted a story about this YummySoup app the same day; 50% of your diggs have been about YummySoup, and your only comment on Digg is this one - promoting YummySoup :) Are you, by any chance, the developer?
- Saiing, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Why would Apple bundle a Cookbook app? Do you really think that's something every Mac user wants on his or her computer? Doubtful."
I can see your sentiment, but I would express it differently.
Mac Users had the opportunity to design and vote for literally any app they could imagine, which would then be turned into reality and the best they could come up with was a freakin' cookbook. It's like America, having a population of 300 million and yet, out of all the brilliant people in the country, the best candidate you could find for president was Bush (not once but twice!) - retral, on 10/12/2007, -13/+15The wood only looks terrible because you want a reason to hate it..
- alej744, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2What does that have to do with anything?
- xutopia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm sorry to say but Yum really doesn't appeal to me. I'm an amateur chef and honestly the yum! interface looks tedious and boring compared to what Cookbook has to offer.
- xutopia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1People who use expose a lot find the differing border colours to help with spotting the right app. I think it's helpful that way and I only wished I could have more control over my app colors so that it would be ever easier to switch apps.
- jmillerdesign, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Wow, these guys are totally amazing! I'm buying this app without a doubt! I'm a college student learning how to cook, I really love it and this would be so great to have. I love my mac and this kind of stuff makes it even better!
- jawngee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@sailing:
Umm, correction, Bush lost the popular vote both times. - realpolitik, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2What money has Phill made from MyDreamApp? Ad revenues partially paid for MDA prizes, but otherwise, Phill is currently in the red with respect to MDA.
- alej744, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"so ***** tight"
I see. - pauliusuza, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Fanatically crispy! One of the best user interfaces that I have seen in a long time, Bravo!
- alej744, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Tubular is being developed by Steve Streza (a.k.a. AmazingSyco) but he is friends with Austin Sarner, Jason Harris, John Casasanta (red), and Phill Ryu. They are all working on My Dream App / MacHeist (I & II)
Yet... Steve is developing Tubular pretty slowly. And I don't think it was right for him to charge people for a private, crappy beta.
The MacHeist bundle was awesome though. They did a great job on that. - mediaphile, on 10/12/2007, -9/+9Why would Apple bundle a Cookbook app? Do you really think that's something every Mac user wants on his or her computer? Doubtful.
- fredchuck, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Honestly, if wood paneling doesn't float your boat, there are a loads of other options that have already been around longer, including MacGourmet (http://www.macgourmet.com), which was just updated this week, Connoisseur (http://www.thelittleappfactory.com), etc.
- noliberalbull, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1not quite as colorful, but just as functional and already available (and free) is an app called Yum! Here: http://mac.softpedia.com/get/Utilities/Yum.shtml
or here: http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/15593 - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2@squantix
I see you are up to your slimy ways again.
That computer that you are using to spread your vile hatred was invented here, in America. Just about every technology that you use in your everyday life, your cell phone, your car, the plane you use to take you on vacation, your TV, the heart surgery that may one day save your life, were all products of America. So go ahead and hate us, call us all manner of names, spread the word that America is evil. Just remember, that when you or your fellow countrymen have no work, no money, no chance at a decent education, you will come here. To work, to study in our Universities, to realize your dreams, you will flock to the US. - nkthen, on 02/27/2008, -1/+1http://www.seewebdirect.com
- delaque, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0I think it's because the kitchen metaphor simply works in this case. I was sceptical "on principle" first, but it feels very "kitcheny" to me, and it works. Bold, but beautiful, at least to me.
