- Jozer99, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21Let me get this article strait. So, Windows guy runs Windows on his comptuer, and likes it? Well, big suprise!
- screwzluse, on 10/12/2007, -12/+30So, should I keep expecting to see something about Apple Boot Camp every 5 minutes on digg or can I actually expect something else. Hey, look at that, Google Calender also came out. It's amazing how many of each of these types of stories seem to turn digg into one large dup.
- Intensecure, on 10/12/2007, -5/+21"So, should I keep expecting to see something about Apple Boot Camp every 5 minutes on digg or can I actually expect something else."
Yeah, looks like it. Until Vista comes out, then we will have endless stories about Vista on Leopard. Yawn... - Hollister, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19A butter lover just put butter on his toast and loved it!!
- Ralphy, on 10/12/2007, -7/+19I agree, we all seen stats on Apple Boot Camp by now, we all know it runs well with minor flaws.
Also, why do I care if this random guy likes it? I like it too but I don't go around bragging about it... - jaysi, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15I agree. Far too many Boot Camp articles. All saying essentially the same old crap. We know, XP can run on the Intel macs. Lets move on now.
- GuineaPig, on 10/12/2007, -10/+21A Microsoft guy who likes Windows on a Mac... Shocking!
- C00001, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8he's talking about linux.
- kolop1, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8 Who cares? Windows can do way more than a Mac can. I can surf the net, play games and edit dvds on my windows PC. What would i gain if i could dual boot Mac? Also why are Mac fans so excited. For years i have had to hear how Windows sucks the Mac is better. Now that you can run Windows on your Mac it is the greatest thing ever. I just dont get it.
- sud0n1m, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8I thought that XOM (onmac.net) was the first realistic way to run os x tiger and windows xp on a macintosh computer. The author seems to be confused when he says "Apple has given Windows and Mac users the first realistic way to run both OS X Tiger and Windows XP on a Macintosh computer."
Of course I am biased since I own onmac.net, but journalists should check things out before they start awarding firsts to Apple. Just because they make such damn sweet machines, doesnt mean they should get credit for Blanka and Narf's accomplishments. - Migdilio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I think this is one of those cases where the title of the Digg basically acts as a supplement to the whole article. I read the entire thing and came to the exact same conclusion (whoa, he DID like what he found!), thereby rendering 5 minutes of my life wasted and irretrievable. Thank you, jobobshishkabob.
Also I wasted another 5 minutes typing your name. - Norante, on 10/12/2007, -8/+12Word.
I find it highly amusing that the same people that used to despise Windows are now trumpeting that they can run the "cursed" OS on their glossy shiny overpriced computers. - himey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I've loaded Boot Camp up on my Mac just for the fun of it, but I find the usability questionable without my Print Screen & Scroll Lock keys.
None of my software has shortcuts for F13, F14 & F15 either. - tymaishu, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7i agree. I love my mac, and cant wait until i can get an intel mac with bootcamp, but it seems like Digg cant go an hour without a boot camp story on the front page
- mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4mikey likes it!!
(wow, a windows guy, where oh where did you find such a man? [sarcasm]) - Jeebugorn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3i like your analogy..but here's my version...
a butter on toast lover put butter on his popcorn and still liked it. - superkendall, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7Why are people so excited? Because every PC gamer can at last buy a Mac. Before you had to be able to afford to buy a Mac and a PC, not easy if you wanted a really good gaming rig. The lack of game availiability was really the single thing keeping a huge number of people from even thinking about a Mac.
So there's a whole lot of people around that kind of were interested in macs before but suddenly find they are an option. That's why Boot Camp articles are gaining such traction, because gamers are happy to see validation the solution is a good one and are basically freshly minted Apple converts.
If you don't like Apple I think the only hope for you over the next year is to get first dibs on a really good cave, because even after Boot Camp stories die down a bit there's a number of other Apple models to be released with Intel chips throughout the year (with more stories about how well Boot Camp works on them of course) and also Leopord details started to arrive in a few months after Apple's developer conference. That's your view into the future of Digg throughout the year I'd say. - VeteranRanger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I found the article informative (like the part where he details specific shortcomings, such as the system time issue), but then again I haven't read other Boot Camp articles, which may have already included those details.
I do agree though: the whole "windows guy likes windows" concept in the title is pretty dumb. I suppose they just wanted to show his general opinion right in the title.. and failed miserably at creating an appealing one. - deadbaby, on 10/12/2007, -6/+8I'm a Mac user but yea, can we stop with the Boot Camp already? It's great, it's fantastic. It will change your life. We got it.
- BobCrabtree, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1HEXUS.net has just (April 13) put up a hands-on review of Boot Camp Public Beta written by someone who'd be regarded as a Mac expert - though not a Mac bigot - and this does include some benchmarking (3DMark and Counter Strike: Source), as well as a load of screengrabs and videos.
- Tom_Riddle, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4
I laugh at your first three sentences. Windows is completely mal-equipped to handle such tasks OUT-OF-THE-BOX. not saying it can't be done with 3rd party software.
and its because now we can play all the games and interact at the office without having to worry about compatibility. Have you seen Microsoft Office for the Mac? It blows major balls. so hey lets run it where its supposed to go. And Windows machines have trouble recognizing Macs on LAN. not the other way around : )
So this solves any problems that us Mac users had to face. As awesome as OS X is, the fact is that Bill Gates still ownes the computer world. so we have to adapt and learn to work around that. Boot Camp does just this. - jayf, on 10/12/2007, -3/+31. Apple makes both the OS and hardware and the integration between them is tight and spotless.
2. Microsoft does not make PCs. This means achieving such tight integration is a lot harder if not impossible.
3. Apple charges a premium for this feature.
4. Both do all the things you just mentioned, OSX software is easier than most PC solutions however
End of story. - lewisfrancis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Reasonable article, but got his facts wrong on the lack of Bluetooth hkbd/mouse support. Have to cut him some slack because initially I also though this was the case; a wired kybd/mouse is required for installation, but afterwards you can use Apple's Bluetooth input devices -- my office is running it now on a solo MacIntel Mini in one of our conference rooms driving a 42" plasma display.
- flamingmb, on 10/12/2007, -8/+8TiCL you are a class A *****. Apple users, for the most part, are not snooty. I have met more windows fanboys (like yourself) that try to bash apple because "they only have one button on their mouse". Oh, and next time you use your ipod try and not sound like a hypocrit.
- miaow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0it would be better if we could buy OSX for IBM computers. some real competition
- ultimathule, on 10/12/2007, -6/+5Fine, but his writing skills reeked in that sentence.
- xoineg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0cause some people don't like stealing and are not cheap...plus linux can be too hard for them... :P
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Have you contacted them personally? Complaining in Digg has about as much pressure as a wet fart.
- timalmond, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I'm not sure how many mac fans are that excited about it. The ones I know don't care less about this move.
However, people I know who have been considering the idea of switching to Mac are now more definite about their next machine being a Mac. Whilst it adds a cost premium, it's giving them a lot more options. - jobobshishkabob, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Too all that are complining about this article... im sorry... it got 458 diggs and made it to the home page, so im assuming atleast some people like them... it was an article like any other article submitted... so if you dont like it, dont bother wasting another five minutes of your life typing up a comment about how it is not a good article. if it wasnt a good article, it would not have made it to the home page.
If you're going "more boot camp news?!?!"... dont read the article...skip it! if u dont like it dont read it. dont send it to the home page. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2quit whining (as usual) and find other articles to post about then, seriously they apparently are dugg so I guess some people do like them, or maybe there are a lot of whiners who digg them anyway...seriously numbers can't lie here, and I am not taking either side...so give me plus or negative, but I stand beside my point. I think that main Windows user base is just getting scared that peoplare are starting a slow but surely migration, and Redmond knows it, they know it, and I know it.
- xedeon, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2OH RLY? Edit your dvd's on your brand new spankin' pc out of the box with what? Windows Movie Maker? maybe you got it confused the other way around were you thinking about iMovie HD on OS X?
Also please stop making asinine comments if you HAVE NOT tried all the OS's out there how can you judge something if you haven't tried it? you don't buy a piece of pretty metal and a great OS when you buy a mac what you get is an experience... - Wavey, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4He does a pretty good job of describing the basic setup process and the elegant simplicity of the boot process. But I dislike articles that keep saying things like, "you'll have a smile on your face when you discover just how fast WinXP is running on a Mac." OK, you have my attention, so just HOW fast is it? Throw me a bone here. Don't just say that it'll make me all warm and fuzzy inside when I see it.
- nurvus, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3i think i'll blow if i see another Mac article..
- systemghost, on 10/12/2007, -17/+16BOOT CAMP BOOT CAMP BOOT CAMP BOOT CAMP BOOT CAMP BOOT CAMP BOOT CAMP BOOT CAMP.
Hey how about we get some new headlines? I really don't give a damn if Windows runs on Macs. I thought the whole reason people bought Macs was the get *away* from using Windows.. and to wear stupid berets and drink lots of coffee and talk about how they're really important photographers and screenwriters and work at Pixar. I'm not throwing out my current box just to put windows onto an entirely new Apple machine just because I *could* and it's "faster." I'm comfortable with, and enjoy my PC, so why is everyone trying to ram apples down our throats? And really.. why the hell does everyone care so much? - jayf, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3Yes BOOT CAMP!
It isn't for you. It's for people who with a chain clamped on to their legs and a ball at the other end with a Windows logo on it but who WANT to try Macs. You know, DirectX gamers, people who need one piece of software that doesn't have an OSX port or isn't written in Java, people who are overly permiscuous with their machines and pick up virii galore etc...
If you love your Windows box so much good for you. Keep on truckin'. - systemghost, on 10/12/2007, -9/+7@shinynew
People see Apple they digg. I'm just calling them how I see them. And I've seen a hell of a lot of the same goddamn thing about how you can run Windows on Apple machines in the past week to make me lose my sanity. To all the Apple digging fanboys: save your clicks until the new iPod comes out, please. There's just one way to say that bootcamp runs windows on macs, and I just said it in this very sentence.
@JesseCM
My machine looks sexy. And if Windows users are greedy, Apple users are pretentious jackasses who need to quit trying to prove that they're better than everyone else. If someone thought they were impressing me by showing me Windows running on an Apple I'd scoff and say "Good for you, so explain to me why you just didn't get a Dell and save a few thousand bucks?" If you want to look pretty for all the coffee-shop girls go for it, but stop preaching to me. - TheReport, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Most Stereotypes are true if you havent noticed.
and I find it hard to believe that youd choose Dos over Unix any day - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Digg is really becoming annoying.. some of these comments are shocking, and offensive, I often get my feelings hurt when people curse at the products I work hard to create. Boo hoo hooo.
- ziadoz, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Drgn547 since when exactly did Windows XP become an unstable operating system? Its comments like that that get all Apple users branded as fanboys, because they use typical stereo types as arguements, without bothering to check if they're actually true.
- timalmond, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1why does everyone care?
This is quite a big move because it's about people who like the idea of switching having an insurance policy. If I get a Mac, and when it comes to day-to-day use, I hate OSX, I can just put Windows on and use that instead.
Also, someone might come along and request I do something as a .net application. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -16/+14i got windows and i didnt pay for it...
- jayf, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3You do realize this article is aimed at people who want a Mac but still need Windows for some things right?
Now if a few more people jumping ship offends you perhaps you're just a paranoid person who has built his/her world around Bill Gates and his company. If you love Windows so much go ahead and use it. May your dreams have many flying chairs and floating paperclips in them. - dobby, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0"One thing Apple CEO Steve Jobs' company should stop doing is focusing entirely on its different drummer persona.."
Apple = Different, if the company looses focus of this it is pointless to go on. Then they are Microsoft.
"Another change Apple should make is to build cheaper hardware. The company's industrial design has always been first class. On the MacBook Pro,...."
Apple = the experience, If apple creates a cheap (ugly) PC apple wouldn't be apple - Drgn547, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1"I can surf the net, play games and edit dvds on my windows PC. What would i gain if I could dual boot Mac?"
--How about a stable operating system which might just add some security and ease to those listed activities? As far as why it's exciting, it's because some software apps that people really like are not made for the mac (DVD Shrink for example) so being able to use those apps on the same system is exciting, because now you get the best of both worlds: The stability and security of OSX as your primary OS, as well as the versatility and range of programs for Windows. Apple hardware has a much longer lifespan than most PCs, as well as a higher resale value. The abillity to have Windows on such a system is a very great thing because I think Windows users will be swayed to using OSX more, since it's on the same system. This is an excellent marketing move by Apple. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1I still am not using XP...no reason to, however I do own a copy of CS 1.6 that I had on my Dell and may use it just for that. My real games are Adobe Creative Suite 2 and FCP
