- cleverboy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5The "SmashMyiPhone.com" website, if anyone was stupid enough to donate, is pretty badly planned already. I'd say, low odds that the Apple store or Cingular store will let you leave with an iPhone, and not sell you a calling plan with it. Would they accept a non-fee cancellation if not accompanied with a phone return? Kind of defeats the whole purpose, doesn't it?

My wife would love to know that too.
In the past 3 or 4 months I have been to 3 of the 5 Apple stores in my area. All 3 are informing their customers that the only information they have is: Yes they will be selling the phone. They do not know when (i.e. before of after the AT&T stores) or how they are going to be doing the service end of it, but they will be selling them... and that is all the information they have.
The AT&T store that I went to told me that they had no information. To check back from time to time. As June gets closer they should have more information. However, the best information will probably be at the AT&T and Apple websites.
In other words nobody knows a thing about anything. - Squidly, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Me: Mister Sulu, after June 11, set wallet to "empty".

- mindvise3, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Well, for one, people say that the N95 seems clunky. It also has a very slow interface, which for many people is a big deal. According to tests, the iPhone hasn't been slow at ALL. Plus the 5MP camera is nice, but it doesn't have a real flash, which frankly kinda sucks in low light. But of course, the iPhone won't have that, so maybe the N95 could POSSIBLY have a one up as far as that. Oh, and you also have to pay like $150 a year for any turn-by-turn GPS navigation. Plus the screen is smaller, not a touch-screen, and it doesn't have much on-board memory at all.
I think it's too early to say anything about the iPhone - Apple has been making improvements on it since Macworld while we've been waiting. - UnclePunk, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I thought it was coming out on Cingular?
/sarcasm - meatmcguffin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Welcome to the mindset of an MS troll.
(ps, it's champing at the bit. Makes no sense but there ya go) - ibeetle, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5The iPhone (hype) trap:
If they put a million phones into the distribution channel and only sell 7000,000 everybody will say it is a disaster and a flop. As well as saying Apple padded the distribution channel to say they sold 1 million iPhones.
-or-
If they put a million phones into the distribution channel and sell out in seconds everybody will say the Apple sheep were out in force and nobody will really know the real desirability for several months.
Either way it is a loose loose situation for both Apple and AT&T. About the only thing that has come close to they hype this thing has gotten is the Nintendo Wii.
Funny thing. With all that said. My wife is chopping at the bit and cannot wait until June for this. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3hmmm. availabiliy issues. while this is a common way to build buzz and grab free media coverage for apple, availability problems would bum me out personally. i wonder if they'll have a pre-ordering system in place in the next month.
- Rhatz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0I didn't like this article what the ***** is a iphone? besides making phone calls what else does it do? . this article didn't tell me ***** about what it does and I couldn't be ***** clicking on links to find out because the main article didn't tell me *****. - accountholder, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3I read digg, maybe too much. This is my first comment, I want my first to be special. I don't want to make mistakes of others that lead down the wrong path.... I am also worried that my first comment will be linked with this...better than a zune phone article, I guess.
- chetanw, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Idiots - they have to say some crap just to get the (dis)honor of publishing the first comment for an article.
- nartvq, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0The iPhone looks good, but its functionally lacking. It doesn't have HSDPA, you can't install applications, you're locked into one provider etc. There are several products out there that I think are much better.
For me, I'm more interested in an HTC tytn, advantage or shift. Sure they're bulkier, but I can do so much more with them, even get actual work done. GPS capability, 1000's of apps (native Office, encryption, games etc), HSDPA, SIM chip swapping for international use in addition to the standard audio/video/camera capabilities the iPhone has. Sure the iPhone has more stand alone storage, but SD/mini-SD chips are cheap. If you want "Cool" enjoy your iPhone, if you want "Cutting Edge" look elsewhere. - sofaKing812, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1How does everyone think these will sell on ebay once they are released? Will they sellout right away so that other AT&T and Cingular customers will go to ebay for one? Is the i-phone going to be a lucrative capitalist venture on ebay? Am I done asking questions? Yes.
- Crumbles, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1@mindwise3
Sounds like your information is pretty much all wrong....
It's not clunky at all. It's pretty darn small. Smaller than the iPhone. Slow interface? Sounds like they were reviewing prototypes. Check out the speed for yourself:

$150 a year for turn-by-turn GPS is wrong too. It's free. The only thing you have to pay for is if you want the phone to verbally announce your turn.
It has 160meg onboard, and 2GB expandable. That's a lot for a cell phone.
Oh, and 30FPS 640x480 video... your forgot that part too. Oh, and a TV out so you can watch movies off of your phone on your TV, or play games on your TV. Oh, and also the most advanced 3d chip for graphics in a cell phone ever too. - Crumbles, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1I do NOT understand the iPhone. I have the Nokia N95 right now in my pocket, and it's 100 times better than the iPhone. More advanced too. So who cares about this stupid phone?
- Murdats, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1damn apple sheep chopping at the bit for a phone that will surely be a flop bar for the initial spike of apple sheep sales
- j0se, on 10/12/2007, -32/+3zOMG. IPHONE.

What is Digg?
