- Alegoo92, on 10/10/2007, -3/+50Who here thinks Apple totally shot themselves in the face with this AT&T deal?
Not that I'd only blame AT&T for the travesties. - SpacemanSpiff01, on 10/10/2007, -2/+26I dugg that comment up. Do I lose my AT&T service now?
- amacinnis, on 10/10/2007, -1/+22Having worked for AT&T, I feel I should say something. AT&T aren't the ones denying your subsidy unlock code. When the customer asks for a SUC, we simply fill out a form with the IMEI, click "Submit", and wait for an e-mail back from the manufacturer.
That's right, Apple is denying the SUC for these phones, not AT&T. AT&T merely provides the service, it's up to the manufacturer to decide when, or if, a SUC gets released. - raymore, on 10/10/2007, -3/+16So three reasons I won't buy an iPhone:
1)Cost way too much considering number two and three, even with the price drop
2)The screens really seem too easy to break as I have heard of and know many people that broke them within a week, including K Rose.
3)This topic. I will not ever again buy a phone that is not unlockable. No reason to do so. I would buy pre-paid first. - MobbyG, on 10/10/2007, -2/+15I smell class action!
- zuppy, on 10/10/2007, -4/+16were you somehow locked on a cage for the last 3-4years ? most of the today phones are more advanced than iphone.
- voodoozombie, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10Wow! I'm so surprised. I never expected Apple to do this to their customers. ;)
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11*****!!!
If they weren't so greedy about wanting to take a slice out of people's monthly contract fees they could have gone with ANY other carrier! - 12340987, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11I'm sure they're getting good money out of it. Bad PR perhaps.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11And locks you into a 2 year contract, won't let you run 3rd party apps on it, won't let you chose whatever carrier YOU want without deliberately killing your phone with an update that seems to have to sole purpose of limiting your choices etc etc etc.
- TheKrillr, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Um, not the same thing. a PUK code is a code to unblock your SIM after its been blocked by too many SIM PIN authentication failures.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Um, its NOT about the touch screen. Its about the SLOW as ***** network and the lack of a replaceable battery!!
- diggless, on 10/10/2007, -3/+10why is the internet phone using an outdated internet connection? if this phone was as fast as my treo is on sprint i would buy it right now. That and they wont give me my 23 percent corporate discount on the iphone plans. I will just the the company's 25 percent discount with sprint i guess.
it could have been such a nice product. just add 3g and a removable battery. I keep hearing the only reason its not 3g is the battery life. Just put a door on the damn thing and let me switch out batterys after i browse for 2 hours. its not that difficult. - fkr3, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7And what about Apple? iPhones didn't just magically appear in AT&T's clutches.
- zweben, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7And 'nothing' would've been a hell of a lot better.
Apple didn't have to lock their phone to any carrier. Even if AT&T were the only cellular carrier in the US (which is obviously not the case), it would still make a huge difference. AT&T now has a very significant say over what Apple does with the iPhone because of their exclusivity, and this is turning out to be a big loss for customers. - mal1964, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Apple pushed this part of the agreement, for sales in the UK. att will unlock any other phone but not the iphone.
- Murdats, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5decent phone support?
all you need for a phone is the required hardware, a way for people to enter a number and a way for them to answer their call.
a phone is incredibly basic (they even had suitable interfaces for them 40 years ago, but they had this annoying wire back then) - aapala, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Yeah... I think AT&T is really out to prove that the biggest is NOT always the best.
- fkr3, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Apple's sales suggest they're doing just great even if they're locking people into whatever telco gives them the best deal.
- surilamin, on 10/10/2007, -3/+7Most phone companies are *****, at&t is no exception even if it did team up with apple.
- steelmaverick, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Do you have room on that bandwagon?
- fkr3, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I think you need to look at a PDA some time... there's more to them then just an interface - like being able to run software and stuff on them.
- FatShady, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Yeah, because that's obviously not for fanboys.
- FatShady, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5You could try not being a ***** retard. That might help.
- richardiscool, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3They have to unlock them in the EU.
- ejames8124, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2The AT&T contract indicates that a penalty exists if you cancel the contract prior to the two year contracts expiration. Has anyone looked into whether AT&T would be required to unlock the phone if you paid them the cancellation fee? It seems to me that if I was willing (and I'm not at the moment) to cancel my AT&T account and pay the penalty that AT&T (or Apple) would have to unlock my phone since the phone is not subsidized and would now belong to me; the contract would have been fulfilled wouldn't it? Maybe the fee would be the remainder of the two year contracts payments which would make it to expensive for anyone to cancel at least until you were within a few months of the end of contract.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2The internet called. your Gadget/Internet using privileges have been revoked.
- diggless, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2you put a 3g chip in the phone which has been done in many many other phones. And you put a removable cover over the phone.
whats difficult about that? - voodoozombie, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5Like iSheep are going to stop buying Apple products because of this? Pa-leeeez.
- Rikkochet, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2You should ask yourself if this hit the front page because you said that, or in spite of it!
- ec92009, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I stand corrected.
This is my first phone with a SIM card.
Question is, can I take my phone on my trips to Europe and use a foreign Sim card? Do I need to get AT&T's permission to use MY phone outside THEIR coverage zone? - SirZRX, on 10/10/2007, -5/+6let the lawsuits begin
- gailwin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1***** ILLEGAL!
It was made a law that carriers and manufacturers MUST provide customers with unlocking information, since the customer OWNS the phone - specialK16, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I respect you for giving your opinion, but you make several mistakes. First of all you are assuming that every person that bitches the iPhone aren't iPhone owners. Also, all that is ONLY your opinion. And well, "unbelievably cool" is also an opinion only.
- mitchellg100, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2What a shocker!
- mindbender9, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I think you are all failing to see the point of "most" users who decided to dump $ on an iPhone (like myself): The iPhone is unbelievably cool and does stuff that most phones simply don't do.
I myself love the Touch screen. Who else does this as well as the iPhone? If I'm easily impressed by that and you're not, well... whatever. Don't get the iPhone.
EVERYONE seems to bitch about the 2-year AT&T contract, missing 3G-service or (now) locked-down 3rd party application functionality. Wait... let's look at that from MY point of view (not yours, because you don't have an iPhone):
- Am I going to go to T-Mobile and their limited coverage area? No thanks, I'm fine w/ AT&T and their lousy customer service.
- No 3G service? Yeah, that sucks. I'm going to throw my iPhone in a lake because of that.
- YES, I am bothered by the loss 3rd-party applications because it was great to have a large number of applications to mess with. I am bitter about the removal of this capability by Apple, so I agree with all of you who bring this point up.
Now... why don't voodoozombie, zybch, zuppy ("most of the today phones are more advanced that iphone") or anyone else play saleman for me and sell me on the idea of buying an HTC, Motorola (ha!), Sony Ericsson or other phone. *DON'T LIST SPECS* because it doesn't matter to me. What you have to do is IMPRESS me with the phone (so there goes Motorola), and if you do... I'll look into buying that phone too.
For the record, I am 90% happy with what the iPhone offers and *HOW* it works. It is a cool phone and I'm impressed and more than happy with it. Frankly, NO OTHER PHONE resembles it and I hope that other manufacturers get off their butts and create a competitive and innovative phone to rival it.
If anyone can convince me that another brand of phone is better *AND* more fun to use, let's hear it.
(p.s. I am curious about what the Google phone might offer. I'm easily impressed by touch-screens and have heard that the Gphone might have that too. Wow! Now go ahead and trash the Google phone now that I've brought it up...) - reed311, on 10/10/2007, -3/+4On what grounds? Can you sue Sony because you can't unlock your PS2 to work in any region?
- mindbender9, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Thank you for being fair. I appreciate that.
In response, I was only responding to the three posters mentioned in my previous response. If you read their entries, I'd bet that they'd never buy the iPhone (but seem to have an opinion anyhow).
Also, you should've heard me grumbling last week when Apple took out the 3rd-Party apps. So you are correct that not everyone who complains isn't an iPhone user.
And yes, my previous post was entirely my opinion. Absolutely correct.
But if anyone can convince me that another phone is worth giving up my iPhone, please do so. Because the iPhone is a great innovation that stands apart from the competition, carrier and hangups aside. I think that is what most complainers avoid when they grumble about everything BUT how the phone works.
Thanks for your post. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1in the long term Bad PR does more damage.
- SuperSunny, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Lawsuit or didn't happen
- barryh777, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2F*** Microsoft! No, wait---
- voodoozombie, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Hmm, yeah. I think very few phones come with those features, like no hacking, no other apps, no unlocking, no g3, no plan other than a 2 year contract, bricking phone if you try to hack it, must install iTunes, must create iTunes account, and of course... no bad mouthing at&t or we shut you down. I would stand in line for a phone like that. Wouldn't you?
- misconstrued, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1You're talking out your ass man....
- stupidpoo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Sorry, I have to ask, who is the big bad monopoly? AT&T or Apple iPhone?
- mindbender9, on 10/10/2007, -6/+7I'm not sure where you're getting your #2 comment. Both I and my gf have iPhones, and the screens are great. I know of no one who has had any physical issues with the iPhone. So you're spreading FUD, as far as I'm concerned.
I'm not thrilled with the idea of Apple blocking 3rd party apps, but I'm more than content with the phone and AT&T's lame customer service. There is nothing out there that can touch the functionality and novelty (let's face it) of the iPhone. Well, at least until Google's phone comes out, and it had better be cheaper.
Generally, people who trash the iPhone are usually those who never had any intention of getting one in the first place. If it's too much or too extravagant, don't get one. If you're mildly curious, go play with one at an Apple store.
Otherwise, there's plenty of Treo's and Razr's to go around for everyone. - nzezelj89, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2If i want to invest into a $400+ phone from Apple AND have a contract with AT&T for 2 years, i MUST buy another UNLOCKABLE phone to use with other GSM carriers companies......yea, ***** this, I'm sticking with T-Mobile
- youareretarded, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1SShhh....apple can do no wrong.
Isn't their slogan something like "don't be evil"?
.....Nope it isn't.
The fact is, every cellphone at&t/cingular has carried has always been warrantied by them, has always been unlockable by them (after certain conditions have been met), have never required a two year contract if there was no discount involved, nor have they ever required a data plan to be added for the full length of the contract.
So tell me again, who do you think came up with these rules? - youareretarded, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Ah yes, the good old, customers can't be expected to take responsibility for their actions, line.
- sarmatt, on 11/07/2007, -1/+1Here there are not bad telephone cards
http://phone-cheap.pushline.com/ - youareretarded, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1You obviously don't own an iphone because its severely lacking in basic phone features.
Multiple button presses to get to your contacts or keypad or speed dial lists
The inability to send a text message to multiple recipients
The inability to send or receive mms
Sure it has great phone support! /sarcasm -
