- antipro, on 10/12/2007, -10/+43but will the cure for AIDS have any DRM in it
- Mesach, on 10/12/2007, -9/+35The question is, whether or not the Cure will be available at the 1.99 price point at first, then bumped up to 9.99.
- BobMac, on 10/12/2007, -61/+86Maybe they realized the iPod is a failure in the market and are going to just cut their losses.
- noneloud, on 10/12/2007, -7/+23The current 60Gb with video is anything but cheap. Would you rather Apple not innovate and make new products instead?
- JPhilipson, on 10/12/2007, -6/+20Crap, I was just about to buy one....I guess I should wait now. So many rumors as to what iPods are in development. Sattelite radio iPod? Cell Phone iPod? PDA iPod? Bluetooth iPod (w/ Bluetooth headphones and sync capabilities)? iPod with death laser attachment? Anyone else heard anything?
- npacheco, on 10/12/2007, -9/+21wow... talk about over reaction. at risk means nothing. (i work at an apple store). sure, there's a slight possibility but it can mean model revisions for defects, a supply issue, or many other things. people just love to jump on the "omgz new ipod video!11!" band wagon. and.. it was issued two MONTHS ago -digg
- rudolphdude, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13From the article
"According to sources, when Apple makes note of an item being placed on an "at risk list," it could mean one of many things, or nothing at all. Simply, it's the company's way of warning resellers that it may make changes to that product, replace it with a newer model, offer a price reduction or discontinue it, among other things. Therefore, resellers should keep a close eye on their inventory management of such products."
I don't see where the overreaction is? - mcbesq, on 10/12/2007, -7/+15zwilliams:
Lighten up and get a life. It's a ipod. It plays video. It's a video ipod. Not everyone walks around calling it a 5g ipod with video.
F*cking loser! - panique, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7So, you work for Apple, eh? You are of course aware that you are forbidden by company policy to participate in any public forums such as this, aren't you?
- InternetUser, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Actually, it's "assess".
- Daveecee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8"I hear what your saying (above reply) but the time between releases just seems to short for me."
Actually, an update is a bit overdue considering the average cycle. The current iPod came out on October 12th, which means it's now been available for 156 days. Seeing as how the average cycle is 145 days, it seems logical that the true iPod Video could be coming out close to April 1st.
Unless you're just talking about the overall life cycle of the models. I agree, even the average is a bit short. You get one, and soon enough, the product is obsolete. Then again, welcome to the world of technology. - Kazbaeden, on 10/12/2007, -9/+14Spend less time worrying about what Apple is doing and more time on your grammar.
- scrambled, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Can't wait for April 1. I'm getting so sick of my videoless 4G.
- ubpsanity, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9Hey, does anyone know if I've got a music iPod? It plays music, but I'm still not sure.
- Walking.Dude, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I truly hope the touch screen is BS. I think that's a bad idea.
- Chongo, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9I hear what your saying (above reply) but the time between releases just seems to short for me. For instance, I just created a web page for a friend of mines start-up company. As a token of appreciation, they bought me the 30GB iPod w/video. This was about 1 1/2 weeks ago and I'm still one of the only people I know who has one (and I am the non-apple freak in my large group of friends). now I have to suck it up when a new version comes out in 2 more weeks. ARGGG
It's been like this for much of the products I have bought from apple. From my Dual 1Ghz quicksilver to a Dual 2.5Ghz G5 that I helped my friend buy (and this was pre-order by 2 months!).
I know it's like this all the time in any consumer electronic market but this whole planned obsolescence is killin me! :)
anyways though, I still love apple products and the iPod is my baby! stay back I tell you! - hyperpasta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4And this is not speculation. This is news, that Apple has told its retailers that the 60GB iPod with video may be phased out within 60 days (as of 30 days ago).
- cappslite, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Didn't they announce this on SNL a few months ago?
- tktk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4"...It makes me feel as if i dumped thousands of dollars into a soon to be obsolete technology"
I don't understand where people are getting this feeling. My car didn't become obsolete when the new year's model came out. Neither did my iPod, or my Vaio or my Nintendo DS. They still work; they're just not the top of the line anymore.
They just got old. You got old. It happens. - atbnet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yeah that's what I have at the moment. Depending on the price and if it is a true video iPod I might bite.
- Laughingman234, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3April fools day look for virtual scroll wheels :)
- Walking.Dude, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3My guess is they are getting ready to reduce the price. Probably to 349. If a new "true" video iPod model is coming, I'd guess there is going to be a 399 version of it and a 499 version.
- mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2this is all makes complete sense to me, i think it is very likely that apple would replace the highest end ipod model with a new model. i'm convinced!
- zweben, on 10/12/2007, -7/+9Doesn't keep us from hoping. =(
I hope something like my fake comes out: http://guides.macrumors.com/Image:1fullipodav.jpg
Because I want it. Bad. - Mesach, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6How do you figure that iRiver wouldn't do it? are companies not supposed to innovate and come up with new product?
OMIGOD, i bought a 3rd generation ipod, NOW THERE IS TALK ABOUT A 6th GEN HOW DARE THEY!
There is always something better on the horizon, better not buy anything, i'll just wait until the next generation comes out!
Good savings plan if you think about it. - BBX25, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7"...allow Apple to cautiously asses..."
LOL! That's quite a typo. It's "asess". :) - SpectoriS, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I think they'll be using newer, thinner hard drives for the 60 gig.
You know, make it as thin as the 30 gig.
I can see it now:
"Thinner, smaller, still 15,000 songs" - monofonik, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Yeah, buddy. I'm sure you're really suffering without that video feature.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4That would be the one closest in price to the Video iPod. People who are willing to spend that much money for the 60 Gig would be more likely to just get the video. Meanwhile, A LOT of people have absolutely no need for video and would prefer to pay $100 or more less to just get an iPod whose main function is audio. So it won't compete with the cheaper (relative term when talking about Apple) iPods.
- kyrobeshay, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Honestly, I'm getting a bit fed up with Apple, being an apple fan myself. Devlop a product to its highest potential and then relase it, or release devices after a year or so after the previous release. It's so discouraging to buy a product, and finding out they released an upgrade, no more than 4 weeks later, or to upgrade the powerbook, hype up fans to purchase it, and then slam them with the intel macbookpro less than a year later. This business model is going to fall miserably when customers get too hesitant in deciding which time is the best to purchase a product. It makes me feel as if i dumped thousands of dollars into a soon to be obsolete technology, and when i mean soon, I mean weeks/months. Yeah, you could say that PC's are obsolete every other week, but apple make their products so disparate and so much more advanced with the next release, making the previous ones seem that much more outdated.
- antipro, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5You know there is such a thing as Comic Relief. You know making light of a bad situation so were not depressed all the time.
It's a relatively common practice Im surprised youre not familiar with it. - ek3s, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3It doesn't take a crystal ball and a pointed hat to figure out that Apple is going to release a new ipod...
- Walking.Dude, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Dream on. Although iTMS from the iPod would truly be my wallet's personal nightmare. Talk about instant gratification. Maybe a bigger screen. Probably better battery life during video playback (which can be accomplished by increasing the RAM). Apple doesn't do revolutionary. They do evolutionary. 60 gigs at 399 and perhaps 120 at 499.
Believe it or not, I've almost filled my 60 gig model. I can certainly see 120. My iTunes folder is over half my hard drive's capacity :) - Daveecee, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7"No. There are no video iPods. People stupidly refer to the fifth generation iPods as video iPods or iPod videos when they aren't. It'd be nice if people could use common sense and stop renaming things."
It's easy to confuse "iPod with video" and "iPod video". One word is quite easy to lose over tons of rumors/discussions. - nick53, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4zwilliams, if you are gona be so ****in pedantic then he has an "ipod with video"
- Drumrboy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3iriver hasnt yet.
i shouldve known if this actually happens. they first made all ipods only color screened, then not too long after released a whole new generation... - DrummerGirl, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I agree. Even though the Touchscreen iPod would look nice, I would hate to see what it would look like once parts of the screen that are touched more often start wearing down. And then the fingerprints all over the place would drive me up the wall...
- lxdengar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Uh, no digg. Lets just leave it at its POSSIBLITY it will be replaced.
- Ireland, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I looking forward to all of Apples's new products.
And i'm feeling very positive about the future of apple! - mcbesq, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Slightly off-topic, but I still want to know:
Why do people make fakes (e.g. photos of fake i-pods, i-books, etc.)? Is it just to drive traffic to their site or because they have nothing else to do with their pathetic little lives? - Bigfat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I highly doubt this, not only have I worked in Apple retail in the past but also remain in contact with other Apple resellers, this "at risk" list doesn't even exist. But then again, no one really has a reason to believe me either.
- drizek, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4"fun events" are for when they announce things like new macs.
iPods are for serious events only. - whizzbang, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I reckon that they are going to deliver a new type of iPod, by adding a new big screen 60 Gb ipod while maintaining the 30 GB small screen "Budget" version, this would leave us with
Shuffle
Nano
30 Gb iPod with video
60 Gb "Video iPod" (with big screen like in the recent mockups)
this means they still get to use the 30GB form factor (that is less than 6 months old) while still bringing out the big screen ipod everyone seems to be lusting after!
Any takers? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6I have a question. After April 1, when will hte NEXT Apple announcement be made?
Becuase I can't WAIT until there will be a respite from these annoying "Apple MIGHT introduce this soon" posts. Even if it is only for a few weeks.
Speculation is not news. - imdwalrus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Apparently not.
If they had, we wouldn't have had all of these articles. Seriously, this has got to be getting up into the thousands by now. :) - Ilyanep, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Hmm...this rumor has been floating around for what...like 3 months now? I thought it was going to be announced at the 'fun event' by Apple?
Any time they blow their noses everyone gets in a frenzy.
I've got my two week old 30 GB video iPod and I am very happy with it. - tktk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2You might get some rest in April & May, but that's about it. In June people will be making up random rumors of July's Macworld. And then there is WWDC in August.
Depending on what happens in July and August, there might not be any rumors until next January's Macworld. Course, Apple would have to release everything that anybody every wanted for that to truly happen. - Walking.Dude, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Apple has not said that. At risk could mean numerous things, including a price reduction. Because the 30 Gig was not placed at risk, I'd bet on a price cut and possibly a new model to fit the 399 price range. Apple has an iPods at 99, 149, 199, 249, 299, and 399. I could easily see them moving the 60 gig down to 349 and putting new product at 399.
- DrummerGirl, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Same here. This is why I decided against getting a 5G a few months ago, although I'm sure just as soon as I buy my next iPod, Apple will pop out a new one...it's almost a love/hate relationship. :)
- corsairstw, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2And whoopee. I just got a 60GB iPod for Christmas.
