- Shorties, on 10/10/2007, -8/+58Yes why the Hell is the iPod Touch a Flash Based unit, I am buying a 160GB iPod classic, its worth more to me then the big screen.
- iHeartMoz, on 10/10/2007, -2/+38Who still uses ringtones anymore anyways? Vibrate is the only way to go.
- Radan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+32Can someone PLEASE explain to me who the hell the target group for iPod Touch is supposed to be? We Europeans who can't buy an iPhone? I don't get it. Why not just put 16 GB in the iPhone and let the customer decide if he or she wants to activate the phone part, because that's pretty much what the iPod Touch is; an iPhone without the phone.
- bowe, on 10/10/2007, -0/+26Can't use touch in your pocket or without looking, it's cold where I live.
- lindseylu, on 10/10/2007, -4/+28How is it that we already have a list like this?
- cmearns, on 10/10/2007, -0/+19I actually think Jobs has got it backwards. When you really think about it the space issue is a big deal:
iPod Touch + Small Hard Drive + Big Screen = Only a few movies, Looks Great.
iPod Classic + Big Hard Drive + Small Screen = Lots of movies, but tiny ass screen.
Anyone else see the problem? - lfernandez91, on 10/10/2007, -7/+25To me 16 gb is enough, therefore for me the big screen is worth more than the big HDD ;)
- jgreene777, on 10/10/2007, -11/+26I love Lamp.
- ahawks, on 10/10/2007, -3/+15None of the good stuff?
It's got all of the good stuff, but without the $60/month AT&T bill. - synchestric, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12You would still be paying for the phone part, so the iPod touch is better value for money any way you put it.
- cmearns, on 10/10/2007, -3/+14#7 - Why no Google Maps? The app is already in the iPhone? For that matter - what about the other widgets? Weather? Stocks? Notepad? There is simply no reason (except to make the iPhone smell nicer to buyers) that they didn't include those features in the iPod Touch.
On that note - I would have liked to have seen a GPS system thrown in for good measure. I could live with it being a little thicker if it meant I could use Google Maps + GPS to find my way across Europe. - s0ny, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11So your still using a 10GB version and totally happy with it...but your bitching that it doesnt have 60-80GB of space? Surrreee..makes sense to me.
- pkfx, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11"Just how much space would be needed to stream full HD video to you 24/7 for your entire life?"
Using a resolution of 1920x1080, H.264 compression with a data rate of 8,000 kbps, and a lifespan of 78 years, you would need 2,459,808 gigabytes of space. - Slink, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11i think the storage issue is just a lifestyle thing that's really no issue at all. I used to have the 60GB and spent ages choosing what to listen to, then I got bored of spending time choosing and started using shuffle most of the time. Then it broke and I just bought a Nano knowing that new ipods weren't too far away. I quickly got used to shoving on a few albums i really wanted to listen to and then just randomising the rest. You put the ipod in its cradle every day or so anyway so it's really a brief thing to change the content on there and mix it up. With 16GB of storage there's no way you're going to get bored between charging/resyncing cycles. "I must have all my music at my fingertips at any moment" is just a mindset that you can easily get out of.
- Dgen_X, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10the type of person who likes to announce "THIS IS THE MUSIC I LISTEN TO, YOU SHOULD TOO"
Vibrate is the best ring tone...just wish I could be slightly more quiet. - neseus, on 10/10/2007, -7/+16Geeze, didn't take Gizmodo long to whip up another crappy complaint list. Point of order... paying a BUCK for a ringtone is a small thing, while a $200 price drop is definitely a much larger thing, and yet, the list would equate them. Is it just me, or are people being spoiled by all the cool stuff that apple's doing that they're holding apple to a higher standard?
- MonkeyBoy87, on 10/10/2007, -2/+11I was struck by the oddity of the presentation. we operate in 22 countries, video is a big deal on all ipods. we ship the touch to all the places that don't get iPhone. Oh, but we only sell video in 1 place where we don't sell the iphone.
I have a 60GB ipod video and apple TV and I wait and wait and wait and wait for the Canada store to offere video. maybe I will be surprised by the iTunes 7.4 update. - fezzasus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9practice iphone to get all your moves ready.
- bacon_skoda, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Vibrate and ring.
- tehmark, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10We all know that you aren't playing with your ipod in that pocket. Don't be a creepshow
- Typhoon2009, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Yeah, the charging for ringtones is retarded.
And if you want bigger storage, get the ***** Classic. - fezzasus, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Apple obviously consider flash to be the future, as a result they wont be putting a mechanical hard disk in any of the new lines which is why we have such pathetic capacities in devices which should be flagship models (iphone, ipod touch)
This also means the ipod classic will be phased out as soon as flash capacity can get to 40gb+ even the name classic suggest an old model.
Until the flash capacity increases my credit card will be staying in my wallet. - lfernandez91, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9jesus Pod
- meatmcguffin, on 10/10/2007, -3/+9Because that makes it very nearly as thin as the first gen nanos
- rowlodge, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5i was hoping they would do something weird, like lower the price of the shuffle.
- DarkMeld, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6a little VIDEO for everyone
- TheWorm, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Am I the only one who thinks the iPod classic is ugly in matte alluminum? Granted I haven't seen them in person yet, but they don't seem as sleek.
- macjeffff, on 10/10/2007, -4/+9No sale without 60-80 gigs of storage. Period.
I have a 10 gig, 1st gen iPod that still plays music beautifully (and doubles as a firewire drive).
Steve Job's premature move to Flash memory is a rare but profound mistake. The iPhone and iPod Touch could've been glorious. And they will be, in another year or so. - Shorties, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5You = My Hero
- screwzluse, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4So, the people who do have more than 16gb of media shouldn't have the privilege of a touchscreen and wireless? Hell, I would think people with that much media might take full advantage of some of those features anyway
- bromac, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Hint: You shouldn't hand over money for something that isn't up to your standard, whether it is Apple branded or not.
- Rev0lver, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4The Nano, easily. Your running with an HDD based iPod would severely shorten it's life.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4You'er really paying for the right to use your song as a ringtone... Phones use to be able to use MP3 as ringtones freely a couple of years ago, but then the phone companies figured out that they could charge you up the ass for that "feature".. Most phones can recive FREE ringtones, (myxertones.com) but the feature is usually disables by the carrier. (not the phone manufacturer) Verizon did it to my phone! Luckily I got BitPim!
- HerrEisenheim, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Just download HandBrake and rip the DVDs. It will take you a hour a DVD (assuming you have at least an Intel Core Duo) to create an iTMS-quality video, and then you can do whatever you want with it.
- jostheller, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4I am pissed that I have to wait another year to get what I want...
- jsbarone, on 10/10/2007, -12/+15I think proper punctuation and knowing the different between "than" and "then" are more important.
Also, 160gb's is nice, but I'll be going for the 80. I really don't need that much space. - KSUdesigner, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3The classic has a HDD, the nano has a SSD. If you're going to be working out you want something that can take that kind of abuse, the nano is the way to go.
- pkulak, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Yeah, because all the phone boards and antennas are free...
- ahawks, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3NSFW. Totally unrelated to the topic.
- bgramer1, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3"Apple did nothing new with this release?" ... what are you smoking? They released ringtones. They partnered with Starbucks. They released the iTunes Mobile. They have a re-sized nano that's optimized for multiple types of media viewing. Let's hear you say it again.... otherwise - nice troll. You got me to bite.
- Wander, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3What makes you say that? I just replaced the battery on my son's iPod Mini yesterday, took about 5 minutes, cost $6.10 shipped from http://www.dealextreme.com/search.dx/search.ipod%20battery#204
- RoninBic, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3apple may have 4% of the computer market but they dominate the MP3 player market. http://www.macsimumnews.com/index.php/archive/apple_has_723_percent_of_mp3_player_market_in_february but of course you will dispel the site instantly since the letters m-a-c are in the address
- AlanCayce, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I like the size of the new nano. Both the size and the new interface is appealing to me. The only thing is the hard drive size, I was hoping for somewhere around a 20Gb. So I'm divided on if I should get the nano or the 80 (or 160Gb) classic. I would mostly be using it for working out, and on the job. Any suggestions?
*note - I have never bought an apple product. - Shorties, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Ive got 130 GBs of Movies TV shows and Music (All legally obtained) so yes I have a use for the 160GB iPod. (I'm a video whore I will admit it).
- thetanman, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4With they way you can easily configure workout/favorite play lists, smart play lists, and X-number of most recently unwatched episodes, 16GB is actually a helluva lot. I have 20+GB of music, and I haven't utilized all 8 gigs on my nano yet. Video takes up a good deal of space, but seriously, 16GB should be more than enough for most users hopping on their comp often enough to charge the thing. And the screen real estate is WORTH IT. Have you played with an iPhone?
You can browse with Safari on this thing! *****, man... *****. - fuzzmeister, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4If it was bigger, it would be 32gb. Also, I find an update that soon to be a bit unlikely. Flash prices would have to come down significantly for them to be able to cram that much into such a small device at a reasonable price.
- thatsmyaibo, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Actually I pay less for a 3G provider. I don't like my music and my phone to be the same thing. I actually think I am going to get a touch and a classic. Touch for video, classic for my 50 gigs of music.
- zioxide, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3so a small device to control another small device i carry in my pocket.. thats dumb
- bgramer1, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Sucks to say, but that is exactly how Apple planned it with these price points and features.
