- theblueprint, on 10/12/2007, -2/+84Dugg for actually having apps I haven't heard of.
- gmprunner, on 10/12/2007, -1/+24You can't tell me you didn't expect to be dugg down for that comment.
- aplardi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20Yes I was expecting a list like this, and while these apps may rock it seems every journalist out there thinks they are the only ones to know of them:
"Quicksilver - This will change the way you use your computer
Adium - iChat on crack, can't live without it
xPad - The best text editor available
Firefox - The only way to browse the internet on your Macintosh"
thank god. great article, well written. DUGG - jonathanrix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+171. Create a new project.
2. Select video format iSight.
3. Click Create
4. Click on the little camera to the right of play controls and select Build in iSight from the drop-down.
5. Click record. - drlha, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13No, you got dugg down because your comment made you sound like a dick.
- xutopia, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16"If there was a list of these for windows I'm sure it would be a hell of a lot more then four."
Bonzai Buddy? Comic Cursors? No thanks... - jonathanrix, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14dude, you can record from isight in imovie, you dont need quicktime pro at all.
- autoy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12Dugg for gawker. Thanx :)
- chrisxkelley, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10I'm kind of sick of these crazy acronyms... is it just me or DISL (does it seem like) everyone is just making them up to be lazy?
what is IAWTC, please?
either way... neat little apps :)
serverskine is really useful - commongiga, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Buried comment for baseless bashing of the story and the shameless plug.
Of course, since you submitted that story, it must be more deserving of diggs. Not to mention the fact that what you linked to is not a story, but rather a post on a forum that doesn't really do anything but blurt out an arguable "fact".
Go away. - flarn2006, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7How do you know what I have and haven't heard of?
- winnopeg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8WOW, your PC needs a third party app to keep it from getting viruses?
- Derfus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I saw Gawker when it was posted on here a few months ago, really cool app that I can't say I use often but its very fun to make time lapses
- beforeIforget, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6That Serverskine looked good for a bit, but unless I missed something, I don't want all my passwords in cleartext without some sort of password/encryption protection around the whole thing.
- SCARECR0W, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Thanks everyone for the Digg...
Lists like this are always subjective, but I wanted to bring light to a couple of apps that are kind of obscure.
This is the first time I've had my site on the front page of Digg - I am happy to see it withstanding a digg onslaught - and it's a WordPress powered site no less! - astrosmash, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9No need for WhatSize or du.
Just use Finder. (Select 'Calculate all sizes' from the List View Options, then sort by size) - miyamotofreak, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Want to use some actual unknown apps?
Try cocoaliscious, mainmenu, magical, genius, sidenote, and renamer4mac. - theorem7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Indeed, you can record from the iSight in iMovie, and it can do time lapse as well. Just pick "Time Lapse" from the same menu that jonathanrix described to get to the iSight, and there you go. Kind of makes gawker obsolete, but it does look like a neat app nonetheless.

@RespectedMember
Dumb ass...
Probably because you are a pedophile - xutopia, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6If you have neither you can open your term and do:
du -sh - ejreynolds, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Oh you too?
Especially since it doesn't appear you can lock the actual "server list" program. A little to "open" for me. - panique, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4It's beyond me why they didn't use the Keychain for storing all that information.
- geckofiend, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Thanks for pointing out a story that needed buried.
- thasmadawg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I love whatsize, but I need a plugin called whattodelete...
decisions, decisions... - gaucho4, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Um, no. The Finder does that pretty well. If you are referring to WhatSize, it looks for the largest files and folders on your machine so you can determine what you might want to get rid of to make space.
- turpenine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3diskinventoryx is awesome for finding hidden file black holes.
- hansning, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4there's no love hear for RSS menu, but it's the only program i thought that made the page worthwhile.
this is how i love my RSS. now i can leave firefox and the live bookmarking and use safari again. - hansning, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3it's not free, but with EvoCam, you can even do motion sensing recordings with the iSight. That's way more useful than time lapse if you wanna catch your dogs mischief.
- silvalynin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4@wonginator1221
Open iMovie HD
Under the black video screen, and to the left of the play buttons, you'll see a camera icon and a scissor icon.
Click on the camera icon, select "Built-in iSight"
You'll see yourself on the video part of the screen now....click "Record with iSight"
Done. - MacParrot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I though xutopia was calling gmprunner a douche in some uber-geek speak! Man is my face red!
- coldfusion1970, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Easy.
`du -h -d 1` makes no sense to me even though i've been using Macs for more than 15 years. - Angostura, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3You're right. You have to click on the software name in the heading, not the 'download' icon.
- r0ck3tm4nn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yeah, I swore you didn't need a special app to record movies in iMovie using the iSight camera. Though I will say the option didn't exist in my macbook untill I put more ram in it.
- Me1000, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4It's Just you...
- bking, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7Nofxjunkee, It's pretty easy to not be an ***** and just say "I agree with this comment." We know you can google search, and we know that makes you the apple of the internet's eye. Bravo.
- cstoller, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3thanks for the hookup on whatsize.
- willbb123, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4but you still have to watch all the footage
- jonathanrix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3* to the left of the play controls for num 4
- MrMacMan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2because?
- gmprunner, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5I recommend GrandPerspective over WhatSize, I think it looks nicer.
- Murdats, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2yes that was sarcasm, I have over 1000 setup files for free apps (that ive gathered over the years) that say I didnt litterally mean my last comment
- MrMacMan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Whatsize is clearly the superior application to finder and GrandPerspective.
- Bluu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2What if I want to see where all my hard disk space goes? That Finder List View option is neat, but I don't want to manually look through all my folders to find what's taking the most space.
- slundal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@theblueprint
Same goes for me. These are actually unknown (to me) and very useful apps. Wish I could digg this twice. ;) - reverb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3@astrosmash: The problem with the Finder is that it's dog-slow. WhatSize can size up a folder much, much faster.
- akashra, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't understand the point of Whatsize.
What's wrong with `du -h -d 1` ? - 8177, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You digg for gawker.
I dig for maple dollars.
That was so gosh darn ***** funny. - AceTracer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Already use one, the rest are obscure for a reason.
- tumbleweed05, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1great list.
- winnopeg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Newsfire ftw.
