3G iPhone with 16GB set to drop on November 12th
electronista.com — Apple may launch its iPhone campaign in Europe with a 3G-capable iPhone with enhanced storage, according to what appears to be a leaked ad from T-Mobile Germany. The ad promises HSDPA Internet access (up to 3.6Mbps!) and 16GB of flash. Hope you didn't buy that $399 iPhone assuming it wouldn't get better!

- Bootes, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5ATT has the iPhone exclusively for 5 years. Doesn't mean it will be unlocked after 5 years, just that there won't be a non ATT exclusive iPhone for at least 5 years.

- thorpus, on 10/10/2007, -3/+12I've heard the speculation that at the same time they're going to release the 16gig iphone in the USA also. It's about time they got into the European market. I'm sure they'll sell a ton.
- over90000, on 10/10/2007, -13/+7Not with that price. It's like a PS3, priced out of most peoples' range. The lack of MMS and various other features like video recording, voice recording, lack of searchable contacts, inability to send a text to multiple recipients, lack of bluetooth tethering will hurt it even more.
- Lawr, on 10/10/2007, -4/+6Is it priced out of their target market? If a resounding majority are buying the 8GB model, then the answer is a resounding NO.
- over90000, on 10/10/2007, -3/+4Assuming that they sell it at 399 Euros even the price for 8GB will probably be too high. And that's not taking into the cost of the contract. Europeans are used to getting phones for free with their contract, even high end ones.
- toetagger, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0The higher price represents the "early adapters tax" but will drop "for the rest" just like in the US.

- toetagger, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3It may seem too high while looking at the USD conversion. That's not really representative of the value perception to EU buyers.
- johnIRL, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Hang on...no MMS? That's just retarded. This seems like a phone for people who don't use mobiles(cells), more for the U.S that Europe
- superkendall, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1You know what's retarded? Using MMS which costs money (and has a cap on the size you can send), vs. emailing a photo (which the iPhone does do).
If we all have email on phones, why do we need MMS again? Should we use MMS forever and ever and ever even as technology advances?- tmarklund, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2"We all" do NOT have email capabilities in our phones, And certainly not push-style mailboxes.

- p51d007, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10Not if the wireless companies in America have anything to do about it.
If you want a "feature rich" phone in America, you're better off buying an
unlocked one. Even a feature rich phone in America is more than likely
crippled. - Zap2, on 10/10/2007, -14/+2um, yes I do? Have an reason not to? US gets most products...if this is true, I'm expect USA to get a 16Gb iPhone too
- drlha, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Expect a 3 month lead time on knowing it is coming due to the necessary FCC approval of a new iPhone model. So by "don't expect it soon", its pretty much a given that it won't be coming by Xmas.
- darimik, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13When it comes to the cell phones, unfortunately US does not get most products.

- HappyScrappy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Tell your campus to lighten up. Not letting people even get on to access the outside world? Insane.
Anyway, the iPhone works with some Cisco VPN servers, I wonder what determines which it works with and which it doesn't.
- HappyScrappy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Tell your campus to lighten up. Not letting people even get on to access the outside world? Insane.
- toetagger, on 10/10/2007, -2/+0In my day, they wouldn't let us bring our reel-to-reel to class. : ) Okay, really- no calculators, really.

- insomniac8400, on 10/10/2007, -9/+3If this is t-mobile locked in europe, can't the phone then be used here on t-mobile's network?
- manitoba98xp, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11If you want to roam.
- nreynolds, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1but what if we use our own t-mobile SIM card?
- drlha, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Its doubtful that a Euro T-Mobile locked phone would work with a US T-mobile SIM card.
- nreynolds, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1but what if we use our own t-mobile SIM card?
- mercurysquad, on 10/10/2007, -3/+2If T-mobile network and tower codes are the same in Germany and the US, then maybe yes.
- HerrEisenheim, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1T-Mobile in the US has no UMTS/HSDPA network.
- peestandingup, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2Not currently, but its coming soon. They are releasing their first 3G phone for the US next week.
- HerrEisenheim, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4It wouldn't matter anyway, because frequency allocations for the US and Europe for UMTS are different.
- jcostom, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1T-Mobile's US 3G network is likely to never be a huge success. Why? It's on the 1700 Mhz band. Who else uses that band? Wait for it... Wait for it... That's right, nobody. Nobody at all.
T-Mobile US will likely face a good bit of trouble getting a large number of UMTS/1700 handsets for that reason.
- peestandingup, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2Not currently, but its coming soon. They are releasing their first 3G phone for the US next week.
- cycac, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2Probably not...either way, US 3G and Europe 3G frequencies are different.
- fjc8, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1But it would make sense to make a single device that supports all of them. My ten-month old Samsung Blackjack is US-only 3G, but the AT&T 8525 (FCC approved & released a few weeks later) is 3G triband, supporting the 2.1GHz band for Europe.
- toetagger, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0The real question for US users is, can we buy an at&t locked 3G phone, unlock it and use it on Tmoble with or without 3G? AND, will the iPhone be equipped with 3G plus EDGE to have a more complete network? Of course another BIG question is, After unlocking the iPhone- if it gets restored and locked again by iTunes- will we have to pay to have it unlocked again and again and again?
- Thorsten, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Even more interesting is if they would actually lock it.
As far as I know, T-Mobile Germany never locks their phones, I have owned several years, ago and my oncle just got a new one, and I never had asingle one which was locked from T-Mobile Germany.
I would also expect ths phone to have an Edge chip, since not all of Germany is covered in UMTS.
But too be honest I hope they sell the "old" US iPhone also in Europe for like 300 EUR or so, I don't want to spend almost 700$ on a phone, I don't really need 16 GB and UMTS would be nice but I don't need it.
- Thorsten, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Even more interesting is if they would actually lock it.
- ahac, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Probably not..
Those are different networks with different codes.
- manitoba98xp, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11If you want to roam.
- spargett, on 10/10/2007, -6/+25Interesting that their choosing to use 3G. According to Apple, the 3G chip used way too much battery life to be considered realistic, in addition to a few other elements.
I'd be curious to see what kind of sacrifices the Euro iPhone would have made.- HerrEisenheim, on 10/10/2007, -2/+13We'll see a UMTS/HSDPA iPhone in the US when we actually have a network that extends beyond the major coastal cities.
- toetagger, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0Has the plan for Apple/at&t been to release EDGE while upgrading 3G? Probably.
- jim1977, on 10/10/2007, -2/+19It's because in the US there's not complete 3G coverage like there is in Europe - they wanted to avoid customers being disappointed with being unable to use 3G features outside of cities and urban areas.
- mercurysquad, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Absolutely correct. A non-3G phone costing in excess of €400 will never take off here simply because *everyone* expects high speed data, and the coverage is pretty much universal all over Europe.
- HappyScrappy, on 10/10/2007, -3/+4That's a bunch of hooey. They could easily make a phone that does both 3G and EDGE, like the Nokia N80 (which does VOIP too!). No one needed to be disappointed.
- superkendall, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1You're dissapointed in the battery liife, and the lack of 3G coverage (even is cities that say they have 3G). That's as a user.
- brainbox, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2No, the point is the swap from 3G to anything lesser will make people ***** at their network for only having 3G / HSDPA coverage in built-up areas. My N95 will fall back to GPRS (no EDGE as that's not used in the UK) which is roughly dialup speeds, if 3G isn't available.
- HappyScrappy, on 10/10/2007, -7/+45Don't believe anything Jobs says when explaining why Apple doesn't have a feature. He'll usually say something smooth but untrue.
- Scruffydan, on 10/10/2007, -10/+4I remember him saying how much faster G5 based macs were compared to the crappy x86 chips... until macs started to use them, and guess what, the x86 chips were much faster
- turpenine, on 10/10/2007, -2/+18no, back then when g5 was introduced it was faster, then it wasn't updated for like 4 years.
- habbofresh, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7that was before the core series.
- HappyScrappy, on 10/10/2007, -4/+3PowerPC was never faster than Intel's equivalent offering on mainstream computation (PowerPC was much faster on floating point though) at any point during the time Apple used it.
Pentium was faster than 601 the day Apple introed the 601 machines (ask Microprocessor Report), and the Intel chips were faster at every point up to and including the day Apple switched to them. The stuff about Intel chips creating too much heat was true though. Although anyone with one of the later G5s knows PowerPC had its own problems with this.
- ut2k4king, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Just like every major corporation. They say stuff to look good, though EDGE in the US wasn't exactly a bad idea, we have absolute CRAP 3G coverage.
- Scruffydan, on 10/10/2007, -10/+4I remember him saying how much faster G5 based macs were compared to the crappy x86 chips... until macs started to use them, and guess what, the x86 chips were much faster
- johnpaul191, on 10/10/2007, -5/+3who said 3G used too much battery? Apple's official word was that 3G is "not that important for anything but web browsing". the 3G network in the US is still spotty. basically the places with the best 3G coverage are cities, that are the most likely to have WiFi. AT&T's network kind of sucks in most of the country. the iPhone is probably not big enough to have both chips in them (as many 3G phones in the US have to do).
- HappyScrappy, on 10/10/2007, -3/+4Quoth Steve Jobs:
http://mobhappy.com/blog1/2007/06/29/steve-jobs-doesnt-get-mobile-completely-full-of-it-or-both/
And 3G isn't nearly as spotty as WiFi. Having to switch networks every 400 feet is a drag.
- HappyScrappy, on 10/10/2007, -3/+4Quoth Steve Jobs:
- animaniac, on 10/10/2007, -5/+4Jobs did say that, but also remember that the currently available iPhone was developed over the last several years. As such, it was designed with older technology in mind. During all this, Apple could very well have been working with radio vendors to develop 3G chips to the point where they would make sense in an iPhone from a battery and space standpoint. This 3G iPhone may exist only because such mature 3G technology is now available and being mass produced.
- mlerner, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4Agreed. I really do think that was the reason they didn't choose to use 3G at the time but since then there have been many developments so 3G should be in the next revision of the iPhone.
- toetagger, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/07/09/08/apple_inks_iphone_licensing_deal_covering_3g_technologies.html
- theducks, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13The 3G battery life is less of an issue now than it was in March when the iPhone was announced.
- Macskeeball, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2The iPhone was actually announced in January at MWSF, not in March.
- fjc8, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2I have a 3G phone. Battery life is fine, but there were previously some issues in software. My specific phone's ROM has issues with switching between WCDMA and GSM; locking the phone to either one works fine. However, the threshold at which it considers a 3G signal "too low" is rather high, so it "drops" signal when it doesn't need to (perhaps because it tries to switch to GSM even though it's not permitted).
Other 3G devices do not exhibit this issue. Hopefully, the update scheduled for next week will come on time. - AceTracer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1This whole Qualcomm/Broadcom debacle isn't making 3G phones very easy to distribute in the US either.
- aliguana, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1the problem with 3G, is the areas that don't have it. Then your phone is continually switching between 3G and regular cellular, THATS what uses up the battery. Common knowledge in Europe, you generally set your phone NOT to do dual mode, just 3G or just regular, then the battery lasts longer.
I think if Apple released the iPhone in Europe WITHOUT 3G, it would bomb. Seriously. Why buy a crippled phone? You're better off keeping your 3G phone and buying an iPod Touch or something.
- HerrEisenheim, on 10/10/2007, -2/+13We'll see a UMTS/HSDPA iPhone in the US when we actually have a network that extends beyond the major coastal cities.
- LaSepultura, on 10/10/2007, -9/+3Now if they would just add a video camera, iChat, and a built-in GPS antenna I would be sold.
- HerrEisenheim, on 10/10/2007, -3/+12Sure. $999.
- LaSepultura, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Sold. That's cheaper than my current phone, the Nokia E90.
- thebaron2, on 10/10/2007, -3/+3It doesn't have a video camera?
- meatmcguffin, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3Technically, the camera is good enough and supports taking video - third party apps have demonstrated that. Otherwise, it's locked by software for some weird reason.
- iashraf, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5Periodic release by Apple? Keeps the fanboys locked.
- meatmcguffin, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3Technically, the camera is good enough and supports taking video - third party apps have demonstrated that. Otherwise, it's locked by software for some weird reason.
- Chewie67, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2GPS would be key. Video would be nice, but the GPS is a must.
- HerrEisenheim, on 10/10/2007, -3/+12Sure. $999.
- andykling, on 10/10/2007, -12/+22that's ***** tight. 16gb of FLASH! That's a damn good price... that tech is hardly popular in mobile flash devices. good job Apple. also, PROPS to that damn fast internet!
- fluxboxuk, on 10/10/2007, -5/+2Orange, France... Dam-it, release it on orange in the UK, this things taken long enough to get here and now your telling me i gotta swap to another carrier who undoubtedly will wanna screw me over again (no hard feelings O2, but im one customer thats not coming back)

- Jholder112233, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I'm an O2 customer and a t-mobile customer but I have to say that you're wrong. In the UK, Orange's signal strength is the best around.

- toetagger, on 10/10/2007, -6/+1Shouldacouldawoulda I WANT IT AND I WANT IT NOW!!!!!!!!!! 8 n )
- DjOverEZ, on 10/10/2007, -7/+2As more and more updates are talked about with the iPhone, the more I get to thinking that Apple should have waited 6 months to release it and get things right the first time.
- brokencode, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1You mean, costumers should have waited 6 months before deciding they could not wait to buy an overvalued product.
- UMDWei, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1You can't really get it "right" w/o mass consumer testing. Why not make money in the process?
- jim1977, on 10/10/2007, -8/+15Problem is that equivalent 3G phones can be had a lot cheaper and on better plans in Europe. Let's see how competitive it is to not only pay about three times the price of an average smartphone but to get lumbered with an expensive plan too.
Not to mention the plethora of other good, free 3rd gen phones there are.- xshaisu, on 10/10/2007, -8/+4SHow me one that is better than an iPhone please.
- jakem1, on 10/10/2007, -9/+7Any smartphone running Symbian or Windows Mobile can do anything the iPhone can do and a lot more, with the exception of multi-touch (although obviously most Symbian phones don't use touch screens). Better yet you show me an iPhone that can do GPS, 3G, file-sharing or DUN via bluetooth, copy and paste, etc. While you're at it, show me an iPhone that can use any song as a ringtone without hacks or additional payments to Apple.
Just because the iPhone looks pretty and has a novelty interface doesn't make it the best phone on the market by a long shot. - aliguana, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I can get a Nokia N95 for FREE on contract. Or any other cellphone in existence, they give them away over here. The only time you would pay for a phone was if you wanted to upgrade half way through your 12 months or something, then it comes out of your own pocket.
Which ever provider(s) Apple go with over here, there is going to have to be some heavy subsidising going on. The iPhone will have to be free on contract, or it just won't compete.
- jakem1, on 10/10/2007, -9/+7Any smartphone running Symbian or Windows Mobile can do anything the iPhone can do and a lot more, with the exception of multi-touch (although obviously most Symbian phones don't use touch screens). - Niz1, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3yep Europe actually gets a lot of phones coming in, and i don't think the iPhone is that big of a deal (might be wrong). I would rather get the N95 much cheaper in comparison. I've never paid more that £50 additional for the phone, and usually its free. i would expect to pay that kind of price sim free, not with an expensive contract that, just ridiculous.
- xshaisu, on 10/10/2007, -8/+4SHow me one that is better than an iPhone please.
- nitrousconsumed, on 10/10/2007, -3/+6Nothings for sure, until Apple officially announces it. They shouldve added 'rumor' in the title.
- virtualball, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1It is a rumor, and a bad one at that. If this ad is supposed to be shown before November 12, why wouldn't it have iTunes Music store? It's easy to translate words to German and make up fake facts. Does that make it real? No.
- rhettmaxwell, on 10/10/2007, -9/+2this is a fake
- ksong12, on 10/10/2007, -3/+2Awesome! Now if only in the US, unlocked, and confirmed.
- HappyScrappy, on 10/10/2007, -7/+2As is pointed out in the original articles, this ad is a fake because it is using a T-Mobile logo T-Mobile doesn't even use anymore.

- jcostom, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10Hmm.. Let's see, anyone who wants to send > 160 characters in a single message (not evry1 wnts 2 type lk dis)? Anyone who wants to send a picture from their phone to another phone (like my wife does from time to time when I'm away for work - pics of the kids)?
- dzorz, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2You can send a message > 160 characters long on any phone less than 4-5 years old. It will send multiple SMS messages, and then if the other phone is less than 4-5 years old, it will show it as a single message.
- jsebrech, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Any phone except the iPhone, which apparently can't even split a long sms message into multiple actual messages.
- waylandchin, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1why don't your wife just email you the pics? it's not as clumsy as mms.
- jcostom, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Clumsy? She whips out the phone, shoots a picture, clicks send via mms, selects me from her phone book, hits send. Done. Not clumsy at all. Maybe you've got a phone with a lousy UI? She's using a nokia e50, very nice, simple, well thought out ui.
- over90000, on 10/10/2007, -2/+14First of all MMS is VERY popular among school and college students here in Europe. The lack of MMS would be a severe disadvantage.
Secondly, the inability to send a SMS to multiplt recipients will harm it as well considering how the teenagers are the target audience and they like to send texts like "party at my house, bring booze"- SPECOPS, on 10/10/2007, -10/+2wtf? is it too hard to make a group list, and send an email with a gfx to the MMS email accounts of all the phones that you're sending to that can't rcv email? not that hard, same amount of button presses, geeze
- over90000, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6wow, that's the most convoluted way of doing something simple. pray tell me how to create the gfx in the first place?
- toetagger, on 10/10/2007, -4/+0"pray tell me"? Ugh.
- over90000, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6wow, that's the most convoluted way of doing something simple. pray tell me how to create the gfx in the first place?
- HappyScrappy, on 10/10/2007, -2/+14That's an awful complex workaround.
As an additional note, the iPhone can't send messages to multiple phones at once either! It's ridiculously feature weak.
- SPECOPS, on 10/10/2007, -10/+2wtf? is it too hard to make a group list, and send an email with a gfx to the MMS email accounts of all the phones that you're sending to that can't rcv email? not that hard, same amount of button presses, geeze
- blackjack75, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I'd prefer to send e-mail than MMS, but sometimes some friends of mine send me one, with some funny picture they grabbed here or there. I'd be ***** if I just didn't get it on my very expensive iphone.
- superkendall, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1Exactly - the cheapest phones have MMS. People with real phones email photos to each other, and don't pay money to send them - why shoudl we be technologically limited to what YOUR crappy phone supports? Get a real phone.
- aaronmcdonald, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I think Apple's plan is if everyone had an iPhone then everyone will just send emails and there wouldn't be a need for MMS and the other big phone companies will jump on board the idea of making email more mobile!
- mercurysquad, on 10/10/2007, -14/+4who uses mms anyway except teenagers.
- iChainsaw, on 10/10/2007, -7/+2the german head line says the cult phone of the US, no joke either. run it through babelfish: http://babelfish.altavista.com/ . "Das Kulthandy aus den USA in deutschland" == "Cult mobile phone from the USA in Germany". Rofl.
i think this is fake, or apple is going release this in the US...and with it's release they will make it available in europe. and the germans can't keep a secret.- jcastle, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1That word in this context is cultural
- nasalspray, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I'm sorry - but that makes no sense at all.
Das Kulthandy means that it is a highly sought after, very popular, nearly exclusive mobile phone.
If they wanted to say that it's a "cultural mobile phone", they would have just used the word "Das Kulturhandy".
- nasalspray, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I'm sorry - but that makes no sense at all.
- nasalspray, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1** Crap - how did that happen? **
The last line was meant to say: "they would have just used the word 'Das Kulturhandy', which, in itself, doesn't make a lot of sense and probably doesn't have a very high demand, contextually-speaking."
- jcastle, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1That word in this context is cultural
- Po0py, on 10/10/2007, -17/+2OMFG! WTF! LOL! IDON'*****!
- mal1964, on 10/10/2007, -5/+2It might be fake for now.
- Complexium, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1Yeah.. we're on our way over to HSDPA - so forget UMTS.
I'd still recommend adding support for HSDPA, EDGE and UMTS - which Nokia does with their pro-phones.- darimik, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1Thats what the ad said. HSDPA.
Which basically also includes UMTS and EDGE.- jcostom, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Not quite.
HSDPA is to EDGE as UMTS is to GSM. You can't have HSDPA without UMTS. And HSDPA does not imply EDGE. It is quite possible to create a device that only does UMTS/HSDPA or even the newer HSUPA, leaving out the GSM/EDGE radio entirely.
Don't believe me? Read it for yourself: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HSDPA- darimik, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0now read your comment, and then again reread the original comment.
Based on the ad, we can conclude that it is HSDPA/UMTS.
EDGE/GSM... come on..
- darimik, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0now read your comment, and then again reread the original comment.
- jcostom, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Not quite.
- fjc8, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1HSDPA is an improved download mode for UMTS's WCDMA, so any device will HSDPA will naturally work with WCDMA.
Considering nearly all HSDPA devices are designed to work with GSM/GPRS/EDGE as well, it'd be crazy for this device not to have it.
- darimik, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1Thats what the ad said. HSDPA.

I love the iphone but can't sacrifice all of the above Sony K850i it is!- HappyScrappy, on 10/10/2007, -5/+2I can't wait to get the K850i. I wish they'd hurry up with it.
- OdinEye, on 10/10/2007, -4/+7"No MMS... inability to record video"...
I don't get it - what crappy video are you folks actually recording with your cell phones? I have a phone with a camera that records video - it's unwatchable garbage. Cramming devices full of half-assed features is just an attempt to make you think you are getting more for your money. An abundance of crap is still crap.- darimik, on 10/10/2007, -6/+4Your phone just has a crappy video camera.
I am sorry.- OdinEye, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2I defy you to find a phone with a good (and I do mean *good*) video camera.
If you want to shoot video, get a video camera. - davman99, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3The N95 records at 30fps, VGA (640x480), but I don't know if you consider that *good*.

- asskicker32, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4dont forget "no support for bluetooth stereo headphones". Thats my big reason for not buying... I like my Motorola HT820 and prefer using these cordless while jogging.
- jaisin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Bluetooth stereo headphones suck. Wired FTW.
- Billions, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1That's a cool phone, but all the features you claim you need are either available as ultra-easy hacks or easily added by a software update, which of course is not guaranteed, but still possible at the moment. No firmware update or hack on the planet can make that Sony as thin as the iPhone or the screen as large as the iPhone. I'm not one of those guys that thinks the iPhone is for everyone but I see that people tend to fixate on features it doesn't have and elevate them to 'deal-killer' status, while giving other phones so much slack. I doubt they were ever considering buying an iPhone at all.
- lookoutforchris, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Use email instead of MMS, and if you want MP3 ring tones, convert the file to AAC, then change the extensions to m4r. You can add apps for voice recording. Video recording on a cell phone is retarded, wait a few years. You'll probably have buy an iPhone within a year two I bet.
- tmarklund, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Sooo, instead of just having their telephone number in my phone, taking a picture and click send, I should also assume that my friends/family actually have an email address. I then need to get that address and enter it in my phone in order to send them an image. On top of that they need to check their mail frequently on their phone (push email? who supports that?), preferably at least once a minute to match the notification of MMS.
Oh yeah, I can really see the benefits of email over MMS.

List of Cities "Supporting AT&T 3G/Mobile Broadband"
I'm on the list. Besides, 3G is backwards compatible with EDGE, if there is not 3G coverage it down converts to EDGE.- fjc8, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Indeed, I've been using 3G since November 15th, 2006.
- WizNo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0UMTS(3G) is a completely new network, not compatible with the old 2nd gen based EDGE.
- aliguana, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1yeah, add to that 02 in the UK (the company that is going to be selling the iPhone over here) recently converted to edge, means there probably won't be any 3G in the iPhone, at least at first.
- silverspyder, on 10/10/2007, -4/+3I'll get excited when the iPhone or the iPod touch can hold all my music, not a quarter of it.
- jaisin, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0By the time it can hold all your music, you will have more music.
- lookoutforchris, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1You're using an iPod wrong.
- adude, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Even if this is a fake, it's certain Apple will go European by the end of the year... which means it'll have to have 3G... and with the (substantial) drop in the price of the 8GB, it might make sense that they might offer a $400 EDGE and a $600 3G version by the end of the year.
- HappyScrappy, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1Are you sure that means they'll have to do 3G? Any other company and I'd say yes, but this is Apple. They couldn't manage to put a USB port on the front of their tower machines for 3 years after even 3rd tier clones had it worked out.
- kenvsryu, on 10/10/2007, -7/+1ipod touch > iphone
- proghead, on 10/10/2007, -9/+3If this is real, Apple is making a terrible mistake.
before this month, I had extremely high regards for Apple: Reliable and durable mp3 player, slick phone with a good ui, and a return/repair policy that showed they cared about the customer.
I have since lost all esteem for Apple. To charge $600 for the phone, drop $200 in a month, and then double the space and internet speed in another month is just unacceptable. If this is real, Apple can kiss their release lines and instant sell-outs on new products goodbye forever.- ad551, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Yes, because it really is terrible they keep improving things isn't it?
- asskicker32, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Europe only. The US version will probably be out shortly there after, or whenever they can rush it to market.
- ad551, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Yes, because it really is terrible they keep improving things isn't it?
- Torx, on 10/10/2007, -5/+4Shoulda gave that phone to Sprint, we wouldnt be having these problems in the first place..
- SoCalMario, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1hell yeah, might have ***** customer service but SPRINT ROCKS!!
- lieven, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2There's no reason why phones should be locked in to one single network.
- zykt0n, on 10/10/2007, -1/+18sorry i am wrong, that is real. its in perfect German, that is exactly the german t-mobile logo and they do call their mobile phones section of t-mobile, t-mobile not t-punkt.
- absolutzombie, on 10/10/2007, -4/+5499 Euros = 683.7298 U.S. dollars
- darimik, on 10/10/2007, -6/+1Of course you understand that most Germans probably get the same salary in Euros.
- inquis1, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Don't forget value-added tax (like sales tax, only more visible) will be included in the price. German VAT is 19%, so €499/1.19 = €419.33 = $574.56 equivalent US pre-tax price, which seems a bit more sensible.
- aliguana, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1never works like that though. Usually, with Apple products, a product you pay $499 dollars for, we pay £499 pounds for. All they do is switch the sign. Microsoft do the same thing.
- synthesis811, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0although they do normally charge more, its rarely that bad though, they may do that for US$ to €, but not for US$ to GBP
- tsaxer, on 10/10/2007, -7/+1In Europe, maybe. I was talking with a ATT guy the other day and he said that the next big US release seems to be scheduled for Feb, and it will be 32GB. He also said that we were originally supposed to see a refresh in Nov, but then it got moved back to Dec, and then to Feb.
I'm taking it with a grain of some kind of white substance, maybe salt, I dunno...- tsaxer, on 02/06/2008, -0/+1Guess he was mostly right. So there.
- Skylander, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6In addition to 3G, I hope the next iPhone includes GPS and voice recognition (voice dial) capabilities.
- blackjack75, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1GPS would definitely be coold (in addition to an open API to write real software). As for voice dial:
- Always felt stupid trying to use it
- Never worked well on the phones I tested (many) - jaisin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Voice recognition is so 2001. I'd rather not announce who I am calling in public all the time.

- nastronomical, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1They are gonna pay out the ass especially with VAT. When/if it gets released i hope no one is dumb enough to buy it and bring it here. Euro 3G and American do not work on the same bands.
- darimik, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Not true. I use one 3G phone from the US in Europe.
VAT is usually included in the price. - asskicker32, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1I have an office in Paris. Ill pick one up there and mail it to myself here.
- fjc8, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1> Euro 3G and American do not work on the same bands.
They do not USE the same bands, but there is nothing keeping a device from supporting both. The AT&T 8525 / HTC TyTn, for example, supports 850/1900 for North America and 2100 for European 3G. - aliguana, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Never paid for a cellphone, never will. Free on contract (OK, thats paying for it by the backdoor, but you know what I mean)
- darimik, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Not true. I use one 3G phone from the US in Europe.
- joaoeduardo, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0This came in a perfect time... I was just about to buy a iphone this month but now i don't think I'm getting one until i see a 16GB or bigger .. i just want something that can hold all my music at once.. and I would love to have something with 3g... so I waiting until January when Mac World is due.. Can't wait.. until than I'll save some cash.
- eviltuxking, on 10/10/2007, -4/+0Seeing as it's AT&T, that white powder is probably cocaine.
- lieven, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0there's a whole world outside of the USA
- samste, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5And i was going to buy an iPod Touch at the end of this month when they come out.
Not sure what to do now...- MrBlack08, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2im with you, decisions, decisions.
- joaoeduardo, on 10/10/2007, -6/+0I think it is fake because i downloaded the picture of tmobile ad and translated the fallowing words: photos, camera, calendar, text, maps, weather, clock, calculator, notes, and settings... which are the icons from iphone. and the translation of the words were: Fotos, Kamera, Kalender, Text, Karten, wetter, Uhr, Taschenrechner, Notizen, und Einstellungen.... some of them match to the words in the picture but some don't so... i think its someone trying to play a prank of us because of the recent release... i could be wrong. what u think?
- padfoot, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2How did you translate them? Using an online translator like Babelfish? If it was, then of course its wrong, the online translators never do a good job.
- ka2err, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3As a German let me assure you that those words mean the same. Though "Taschenrechner" is a bit clunky and means "pocket calculator".
Your proof is flawed, that's what I think :-)- Thorsten, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I am German too and I agree I think it could be real, the only problem it the 16 GB iPod instead of iPhone, but hey this is probably not the final release.
- demizer, on 10/10/2007, -8/+3OK.
Can we start talking about the gPhone yet? ***** ATT. - Wilddigi, on 10/10/2007, -4/+1Oh my, more people ranting and whining..
- arctic, on 10/10/2007, -5/+0Now first gen people have another reason to be *****...
- HappyScrappy, on 10/10/2007, -8/+5All this 16G stuff just keeps reminding me how absurd it is that the iPhone doesn't have a memory card slot. Every smartphone has expandable memory, and even many feature phones (like my current W810i). To even talk about alternate memory configs for the iPhone is incongruous.
- LoganT, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Yeah but your W810i doesn't come with 8 GB's of memory.
- deadbaby, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Please show me a phone with built in 8GB + a memory card slot. The reason most phones have memory card slots is because they skimp on the built in memory and force you to buy your own storage instead. Apple simply decided to build it in.
- HappyScrappy, on 10/10/2007, -6/+5Yeah Apple decided to build it in. That's true. And by doing so they make it so if you have 8GB right now and want 16GB later, you have to buy a new phone.
I think you missed the entire point of my argument. Every Smartphone worth it's salt has expandable memory. iPhone should too. - jakem1, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Why digg HappyScrappy down when he's 100% correct? You can get SDHC cards in capacities up to 16Gb and even micro-SDHC does 8Gb now. These cards also cost a lot less than Apple is charging for the memory in their iPhones and there's no need to worry if you need more memory in the future. I'd hate to be tied down to a fixed amount of memory in a phone that costs as much as the iPhone.
- Thorsten, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0Really 16 GB? Those must be really new i can only find 8 GB.
But I must say I feel a lot more comfortable having built in instead of a card, seems to fragile.
And who is to say, the card will work 100% with the iPhone?
Also anothe rslot might look *****.
I think its typical Apple the right choice.
This way if I have a problem I can blame it on the iPhone and Apple can help me.
But if we have cards, thats another problem for support.
- Thorsten, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0Really 16 GB? Those must be really new i can only find 8 GB.
- HappyScrappy, on 10/10/2007, -6/+5Yeah Apple decided to build it in. That's true. And by doing so they make it so if you have 8GB right now and want 16GB later, you have to buy a new phone.
- blackjack75, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5The advantage of an external slot is that memory prices go down very fast, so you can buy 1gb today and 8gb in six months for the same price, on the same device.
- NicP, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2The advantage of every unit having the memory built in is the manufacturer can get a good deal buying bulk memory, and there are less places for dust to get in/mechanical problems etc
- encrypter, on 10/10/2007, -4/+5How about Canada?

- blackjack75, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11It's a lovely country.
- axelbrush, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1I'll take one
- Drizzit, on 10/10/2007, -5/+2That's nearly 750 dollars USD... considering how our money is becoming more worthless (Yes I'm stretching the exchange rate but it's close) . Apple will be making a mint on selling these.
- pradaaddict, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5What about Canada?!?!
We feel so left in the dark up where when it comes to the iPhone. It's such an easy market for Apple but they just don't care.- xtlosx, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1apple isn't the only ones, sorry... lol.
- happyman987, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1Apples stock price took too much of a hit after they announced the 200$ cut. It hinted at the fact that the demand is nearly diminished. They wouldnt risk bringing out a new one so soon because their customers would feel betrayed AGAIN. It's too much to risk bringing to the US.
- greg88, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2probably wont come to the US, just look at all those great phones in asia that never make it here. too bad thou cant wait for a 3G iPhone not so much for the 16 gigs since I still havent filled up my 8gigs
