- Adonai, on 12/06/2007, -0/+2Generally speaking Flash memory storage uses significantly less power than a HDD because most of the power used in a HDD is used for the physical aspect of the device - spin up, spin down, etc - then storing the actual data. Obviously comparisons will vary wildly based on how much the drive is accessed during a given period, the size of the cache file, manufacturer, etc, but I think it would be safe to say that power usage would be 50% less for Flash vs. HDD. This could have a big impact on a device that small (less power used for that small display, so HDD becomes a bigger portion of the total machine's power usage).
