- titlesaysitall, on 10/12/2007, -6/+61It's so small and cute that I want to buy it for no reason, damn you Apple!

you gotta be kidding me about the hearing problem... Turn down the ***** volume. - WiseWeasel, on 10/12/2007, -3/+24I have to say that for a player without a screen, the new Shuffle is about as perfect as it gets. I'm much happier with my Nano, but for those who don't mind the lack of navigation, it's a pretty sweet little player. The price point is just about perfect as well... I would not have any trouble believing that Apple is going to move a ***** ton of these things, and probably surpass Nano shipments. What a perfect stocking-stuffer or office party favor...
- AICkieran, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21Aye because normally when i take off my pants it yanks my ears :D
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20You dont buy a ferrari and worry about mileage.
- Bob042, on 10/12/2007, -2/+20If you work for Apple, you'll already have one, and so will your co-workers.

- badtz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Then OBVIOUSLY the SHUFFLE isn't for you now is it?
- hackmyballs, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17Hmm, I guess it would be perfect for mountain biking. I don't want it to skip a tune when I fall from a cliff or smash my head against a tree.
- yllabianbitpipe, on 10/12/2007, -5/+18I'm thinking maybe due to its small size, people might start sticking it in things that might make a cool mp3 player... like how about a keychain, stuffed animal, belt buckle, necklace, etc.
- falloutsyndrome, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15I actually want one of these for when I run. My 20gb 3rdgen doesn't exactly like falling onto concrete. Stocking stuffer, yes. Office party favor? You'd better be working for Apple to afford those party favors :P
- Anim8me2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12I just recieved one today. Bought it for a friend and I had to play with it for a bit.
This is going to be very big (and very small).
Watch the sales of this thing go through the roof. - kRITek, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12It's also a lot nicer than the first-gen shuffle...
- JLD3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Apparently the iPod flea, picano, or invisa.
- gfreak49, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10naio21: You're just mad cause you have to compensate
- orangenormal, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9I received mine in the mail yesterday. It's my first iPod, and I absolutely believe this could be the best selling iPod yet.
I've historically stayed away from Apple's MP3 players because of their large size (yes, I think even the nano is too big) and short battery life. Even the 1G shuffle was disappointingly huge.
While the lack of screen may not be for everyone, it's absolutely perfect for me (I'm satisfied listening to my collection randomly and don't need visual navigation; I can skip past songs if I'm not in the mood for them). The clip is perfect for the gym. And, though I've only been playing with this thing for a little under two days, I'm hard pressed to find something I don't like about it (I guess, unlike my old Samsung Yepp, I can't just swap the battery when this runs out, but the small size makes up for that). - nofxjunkee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9little girls will probably be wearing them as hair clips.
- Ricapar, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10I think it's awesome, but it's a bit too small for my tastes.
I'm the type that will forget that it is clipped to my pants, and place said pants in the wash.. - CrankyMcGuy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7My local apple retailer can't get them in. Local Apple store is selling out of them already (they've not even been there a whole day). Yeah, I'd say this is a hot one for Apple. Look at the form factor. And with iTunes to manage the playlists, no movable parts, and a simple interface, it's perfect for workouts, hikes in the frozen tundra, and walks on the moon. Every astronaut will be wanting one of these.
- totorototoro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6its going to be a hit with current iPod owners, who will just pick one up for more casual use. Bet the Apple stores will just leave them near the register as an impulse buy this holiday season.
- rickcarson, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Well... ah... you could... mod it into a fridge magnet?
- RandyF, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I ordered a 2G Shuffle the day they were announced. I was sick of not having music, and I never had jumpped on the wagon for an iPod for myself (my wife has a 1gb Nano that I bought her last christmas).
Then I went to a convention a couple of weeks ago and won a 4gb Blue Nano in a raffle (drop business card in our bowl so we can spam you!). I walked that Nano un-opened into an Apple store and upgraded to a 80gb iPod. I loved the thing, but I knew it was too big for what I really wanted, something light and unobstructive. So I kept the 2G Shuffle on order.
It came yesterday, and damn the thing is great. I've been using it as a tie-clip at work (actually clipped to the back of my tie), and I used it at the gym tonight (clipped to the collar of my t-shirt, I didn't even know it was there!).
As others have said, it's very solid, and does not feel cheap at all. $80 was well worth it. - 3vno, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7If the shuffle had nike+, i would buy one.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Normally it'd require iTunes, but since the shuffle database is so simple a few people have written programs to build it automatically and without requiring iTunes. (i.e. drag and drop compatibility)
http://shuffle-db.sourceforge.net/
Not sure if this works with the 2G shuffle, though. I'd imagine it would. - mikeazorin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Nah, you're not correct. Although it may be small, the casing is pure aluminum, sturdy as hell.
- trieste, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6@pipdip - The Shuffle v1 is already the worlds largest selling flash mp3 player.
- Sabin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Being a fan of creatives players i have never owned an ipod. I will but the new shuffle though. Its the perfect flash based player for when i don't want to lug my old creative (nomad zen xtra) brick around with me.
- arkitect, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I am a pretty active person (mountain biking/cycling/running) and loved my first shuffle. I landed on it multiple times and it survived mud, rain, and dirty. That thing was a tank. Well at least it was until I went swimming with it still in my pocket. Needless to say, I might be buying one of these new ones.
- DreadPirate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Blueflie - there are a number of situations where you need the sturdiness of a flash player over the capacity of the video ipod. The Shuffle is a mp3 player that can be used jogging, bike riding, rock climbing, etc. All situations where I wouldn't trust a hard drive-based mp3 player to survive very long.
- ggko, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5>people might start sticking it in things
I got dibs on iPod suspended in Jell-O. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I'm just curious, if the nano is huge.. what'd be your ideal sized mp3 player, with screen?
- WiseWeasel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@Tonyisbad: You can choose how you want iTunes to manage the music on your iPod, and just do it manually if you prefer. Just go to the preferences in iTunes, iPod section, and select the mode you want...
- avatarpalin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I have to agree, I bought one because it is finally the perfect out of the box iPod that can be used for sport, no 3rd party parts required... Still love the 60g but for the price you can't beat the design..
Listen to Tenacious D on it.. It will get you laid!! - OpCzar, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I had a few people ask for the smallest mp3 player possible at the retail store I work at. They wanted to hide(any distraction is forbidden on the workplace) it inside of their worker helmet so they won't be bored as much. This ipod might just do the trick
- zionKing, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"I'm satisfied listening to my collection randomly"
I'm sure you know this but I'll say it, you don't *have* to listen to your songs randomly on the shuffle. You can also listen to your songs in order. You slide the switch around to toggle between random and nonrandom playback. - friend18, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Well it is the worlds most wearable mp3 player.
- WiseWeasel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@Niz1: Thank your country's incredibly high >20% VAT sales tax and customs duties for your exorbitant prices...
- Atlantics, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2All of the Apple stores I've been to always have their iPods right behind the cash register...
- Judge373, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I got mine via FedEx the other day,and I can assure you Whiteguysamurai that it isn't cheap feeling, or fragile. It's made of aluminum, and it's light, but feels very solid. The clip is quality too, and stays on wherever I clip it, no problems. The buttons also have a very nice tactile feel, with a satisfying little click sound when you use them. I'm really enjoying it right now. The only thing I'm worried about is losing it because it's so small, but I'm thinking that as long as I always use the clip, that shouldn't happen.
- dokusan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Is $79 really that expensive?
- nofxjunkee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i love my 60gb iPod but the shuffle is great for short trips. i already ordered one, just waiting for it to arrive.
- jimr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Hmmm... A car I bought recently came with an iPod interface for the stereo that allows the radio/CD player controls to navigate through songs. I wonder if that would work with this new Shuffle. If so, then I'd have a display (the radio) when using it in the car.
I'm pretty happy with my Cowan iAudio U2, but it's sort of anti-Jetsonian to have to plug it into the Aux input and use the players controls instead of the stereo's contols... - websyndicate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I like it because I can take this to the gym and school. Mostly on the go stuff. But having an ipod video to pass the time help. I mainly use it for school since I really dont watch movies during school.
- volcompimp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Why would anyone want a shuffle? I just bought an 8gb Nano on the other hand which I believe will outsell the shuffle by far. I swore I'd never buy another ipod (at least one w/ a hard drive) but nothing came close to the new Nano in my opinion.
- ikimashokie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1They do seem very tempting... Size, lack of "ZOMG LOOKIT MY IPAWD" factor... Just the right size to hold what I would normally listen to... as opposed to my 20gb 4g that never gets used, and my mini that I got from a friend... I like the Mobiblue DAH-1500 et al., but it's a cube shape, and probably wouldn't fit too nicely in places.
- BillDoE, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1These kind of predictions crack me up. I read an article saying the same thing about the brown Zune just a few hours ago.
- TVarmy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I like the price point. I jog on my school's track, but when I'm changing in the locker room, there are opportunities for people to steal it. $79 will be less motivation, and I won't regret losing it. A $300 iPod, I would lose sleep over.
- codyman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1My brother got his in the mail yesterday. The unit is very amazing. I am going to get one too, that is, if I can even find a store that has one in stock... I guess I'll just order on apple.com and wait it out
- jimr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1prockcore - Exactly! If there's much more than 90 minutes of music on the bugger then I'm going to want to be able to navigate to specific albums & tracks. Guess I'll stick with my iAudio U2 until a slightly more irresistible video iPod hits...
- dohidied, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm definitely buying one to supplement my 60GB 5G. The fullsize holds my entire collection in my car and the shuffle will be good for walking around campus. I just hope the Apple Store isn't too crowded when I go there tomorrow.
