- nevenmrgan, on 10/11/2007, -4/+78Neven here, the developer of OneTrip. If you have ideas for similar mini-apps (or ideas for improvements to OneTrip), let's hear it!
- djphatbeat, on 10/11/2007, -8/+37Very Good, I hope to see more like this :)
- haid, on 10/11/2007, -4/+32Suggestion: Aim the camera at a UPC label of something running out in your fridge, and the item name is added to your shopping list
- olli, on 10/11/2007, -7/+32Suggestion: Remove the user agent checking, this app will then run just well on the Nokia N95 (and the 80 million or so other Nokia S60 phones) as it will on the iPhone as both use the WebKit rendering engine.
- Sumyunguy, on 10/11/2007, -2/+25Damnit! Where the hell is SafariTab for Firefox!
- aule, on 10/11/2007, -3/+23@nevenmrgan
I think it needs a "OneTrip" or "home" button that takes you right to your list instead of cycling through the back button. Other than that a great little app. - thegsa, on 10/11/2007, -4/+22it DOES run on Safari for windows.
- TexasFlood93, on 10/11/2007, -4/+21ok so don't diss the designer's work...he's trying to show you how web based apps could look/work on iPhone... its not his fault they don't have sdk...
- MiloMindrbindr, on 10/11/2007, -7/+24I like the use of the black background as well. It will save battery life compared to a white background. Kudos
- kendals, on 10/11/2007, -4/+20I thought of a couple of ideas for you :)
Item Quantity: You tap an item twice, and it puts a 2x next to the item in the main list? 3 taps = 3 items, etc....
Cost: You have a smaller text detail to the right of the item where you can enter a cost estimate and it tallies your estimated total for you- can also use as a real cost tally...
Love it :) - kendals, on 10/11/2007, -6/+20Brilliant idea!
Neven, this is a FANTASTIC app! Big thumbs up :)
Now I gotta see if there's a similr S60 app until I can get an iPhone, because this is super useful :P - bellisland, on 10/11/2007, -1/+14@nevenmrgan
Steve Jobs confirmed yesterday that the iPhone would run Java Script... - MiloMindrbindr, on 10/11/2007, -4/+16having owned a treo and windows smartphone, I was never able to find a dead simple grocery list app like this before. I was dissapointed with the announcement of no SDK for developers, much like everyone else, but if half the web apps made for the iphone are this simple and useful, I might have to get one. So enjoy your awesome native apps.
- kbeeveer46, on 10/11/2007, -3/+13Yes it does. I'm using it right now.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -4/+12ooo these 3rd party apps are going to take the entire handheld world by storm! The juggernaut of development that the iPhone has unleashed is truly stunning to witness! Shareware FTW!
- JasonQG, on 10/11/2007, -3/+11Works for me...
- Amplix, on 10/11/2007, -5/+12wonderchemist is right. - If Apple opened up the iPhone It will be inevitable for a Skype port to come along and get at&t's panties up in a bunch.
- mongolooks, on 10/11/2007, -5/+12damn mini apps are popping up all over the place. so fast. nice adoption.
- durex, on 10/11/2007, -13/+20Oh I get it... so web pages that only load in Safari qualify as official "iPhone 3rd Party Applications". How revolutionary.
- paleblueeyes, on 10/11/2007, -5/+12good job man. i could see myself using this. bravo.
- Me1000, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9While I personally dont find the app useful for my needs, I think you nailed it on the head what we can see with this!
AJAX is extremely powerful! Kudos to you, and I hope to see you making a ton more iPhone apps! - noeljohnhoward, on 10/11/2007, -5/+11great job man, very simple but very useful
- olli, on 10/11/2007, -4/+9As I said above, S60 has exactly the same browser core (WebKit) as the iPhone. If nevenmrgan removes Useragent checking then this web page should run fine on the S60 browser without further changes.
- r3zonance, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Obviously it runs Javascript, otherwise AJAX wouldn't be in the slightest bit possible (it'd just be 'X') :P
- Robotsu, on 10/11/2007, -3/+8Hey Neven, nice application. The only suggestions I would make is instead of forcing users to tap the Back button a few times, have the "OneTrip" application title be a shortcut for to the List, or an additional icon that takes users directly to the list. Additionally, I like the black background but the color scheme is fairly dark on the option bars themselves. Something a bit brighter might look nicer :)
- JEmerson, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4"This works almost perfectly on opera mobile in my axim once I saved it to disk and tossed it on there. Only bug is it needs to use the browsers back instead of the apps once an item is added. One extra line of code and it works perfectly."
Wow. This is the third time in a row I've actually tested, benchmarked, or written code to verify something on digg and found myself modded down while someone's "feelings" about the same subject were modded up. - SanHolo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4@milomindrbindr
A black background does not save anything related to power usage, the LED illumination is on whether you have a black or a white screen.
Kudos to the developer, good idea! - MacParrot, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6"Plus non of those thing you guys posted not going to work with it anyways"
Me fail English? That's unpossible! - neuonyx, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4@Amplix: Skype port exists for windows mobile devices and there's tons of those on at&t network. There is no security/bandwidth/att reason for apple to keep iphone closed. Most likely they are keeping it closed for some sort of apple secrets reason.. shrug...
- compaqdrew, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5Umm... I have a question. I'm not a web developer. Is game writing possible in AJAX? Like what's the refresh rates like?
If the iPhone isn't going to have games... then it's pretty much screwed no matter how awesome the webapps are... - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3but if it remembered things that i manually typed... and/or create a favorites list(s). Other UX thoughts are: clicking on an item the second time deselects it, the ability to create new categories and persistent items in each category (extensible). also, from an admin side, let me upload an XML list from somewhere else instead of having to rely on the phones keypad (for my initial list setup for example), re-sort the categories and items, have multiple list capacity (one for groceries, one for errands, one for a task list, etc..)
Great start at an app. - ttamshadbolt, on 10/11/2007, -4/+7worked fine for me...
- xerexes1, on 10/11/2007, -4/+7Nice job - and Apple pretty. How about adding beef to the meat items?
- kiheimac, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4On the "my list" page I believe it would be nice to be able to click the entire row or div to check the box. That would eliminate the unwanted checking of the wrong item. Great little web app.
- derhamm, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2In Safari on my mac I can "Save As..." any webpage to a file on my desktop. That's what we'll be able to do on iPhone for apps like this right? So no need to discuss if it will still be available offline. ie. on my Treo 650 I can bookmark webpages OR save webpages to memory if I like for offline access.
- JHaze, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4Great idea, maybe ad a deserts item?
cake.. pie.. ice cream.. etc.. - gordeaoux, on 10/11/2007, -5/+7I agree about the home button. It also could use the ability to add your own favorite items. Otherwise, fantastic!
- teiq, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2@milomindrbindr are you taking the piss?
LCD works by stopping light getting through - black means that all the subpixels are ON, to stop light getting through. If anything, it would use MORE battery. - crazybrit, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3It works fine in Konqueror if you tell it to identify itself as Safari. Just so you know.
- JEmerson, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4It's possible with canvas, but probably not with the processor specs on an iphone.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -4/+6hi MacParrot - Old man Henry said your lemon party wasn't over until 11pm. Surprised to see you back so soon.
- nevenmrgan, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Once the app is loaded, it never loads anything off the server again. You can use it without Internet access.
- meatmcguffin, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3"Yeah, because other devices don't have web browsers that will run stuff like this just fine _in_addition_ to being able to have applications written in other languages. :rolls eyes:"
You can roll your eyes as much as you want but Safari has hooks into the OS for making calls, using email, google maps etc and can access stuff like the phone book. Web browsers on WM5 just can't do that because they are...well.... just browsers :rolls eyes: - rajid, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Nice start. I'd like to see something with the same type of functionalities as "HandyShopper" has for Palm systems. I've been using an old Treo 90 for far too many years and I'm thinking about moving up to an iPhone. It'd be nice to see "HandyShopper" for the iPhone.
- MiloMindrbindr, on 10/11/2007, -3/+5this is kinda fun. oooooooooo
- alamandrax, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Hey neven. Have got a bug to report. Maybe it's only on safari for windows, but here it is.
If you go into a category with a scrollbar, and select an item there, and navigate back to your shopping list, the scrollbar doesn't go away. Even if you have 4 or 5 items.
Test case: Go to Veggies>Scroll down>Pick an item>Back arrow to home Screen> Scrollbar remains.
The scrollbar does disappear when you go back to a category with enough items that do not trigger a scrollbar.
Is it just me? Anyone else see this?
All in all, neat. Dugg! - alamandrax, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1oops. Never mind. You mention in the help page http://www.mrgan.com/onetrip/help.php that the scrollbars appear. Forget I said anything.
- MiloMindrbindr, on 10/11/2007, -3/+4Yeah, a quantity would be nice, possible measurement size as well? Because most recipes give you measurements, e.g. 16 ounces of milk.
- thrallie, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2@meatmcguffin
WTF are you saying? Windows Mobile doesn't natively run Java Apps. In fact, I can't even figure out how to run .jar's on windows mobile 5. -
