There's also the little issue that ziphone can be used to steal an iphone and change its IMEI so that the cell networks can't tell you are using a stolen phone. I browse Digg, Reddit, read online stories, read my webcomics, read WoWInsider, Massively, Autoblog -- generally everything I would do online anyway without any real complaints. Sure, I'd love for it to be faster, but it's not a terrible speed.

It's a pity the IPhone isn't on one of the two major CDMA networks, it would truly be smoking hot. However, the reason it isn't is that neither Sprint nor Verizon would agree to let Apple control content - Cingular (now AT&T) did. And their (AT&T's) UMTS network doesn't offer the extensive coverage as their GSM network, otherwise it could have been smoking hot on UMTS. Fair enough people might need it for their commute but in the UK we have WiFi most everywhere (even on most commutes!) and I'm actually pretty impressed at the Cloud network that comes with the contract itself (they have Hot Spots in Phoneboxes all over Cambridge)
I think WiFi came too quickly to most handsets to ever really see a need for 3G in the UK at least and wherever you are, data charges are usually pretty extortionate in comparison to free or PAYG WiFi networks . If you need to get your mail every meter between your kitchen and your desk at work, fine, I get your argument. But for most people I speak too we really don't need ubiquitous mail in that 20 min period.
