- MJ420, on 01/19/2008, -2/+11doesn't make one bit of sense to me, but WOW :)
- Hamletlere, on 01/19/2008, -0/+9Because I want to use my $10/month GoPhone plan instead of the $60/month (possibly with 2 year contract) Apple plan?
Because we don't know if they will charge for the SDK, or allow free apps to be loaded outside of iTunes? Because this way I can have OpenSSH installed, and easily "scp" my eBooks onto the phone, since it doesn't mount as a drive on my Mac? - noahhoward, on 01/19/2008, -7/+13Why? They're providing an SDK, why would you jailbreak it and go through the same pain in the ass wait every time there is an update when good programmers can do the same things?
- allyant, on 01/19/2008, -1/+6You won't need to jailbreak it now, just still need to unlock it so you can use it on any network.
- beerbarron, on 01/19/2008, -1/+6I really want a nice little light wait word processing app and spreadsheet app, so I can asset track. Would be awesome if google writes something, that can sync with google docs
- Lanage, on 01/19/2008, -0/+4Well, rumors are that somehow Apple will limit what goes on the phone. There will be some sort of directory on iTunes or something along those lines. Why jailbreak you might ask? Because in order to put whatever apps you want, you must have write access, not just the access that iTunes allows for approved apps. Further, when the phone is unlocked, you have to hack activation. Think Apple will allow something like that to pass thru iTunes onto the phone? Me neither. Also, there is no directory on iTunes yet, so there is no way to know how Apple plans to pass the files to the phone. As it stands right now, it is necessary to jailbreak.
- luchid, on 01/19/2008, -0/+3None of that functionality is taken away when you unlock it. You can have the best of both worlds with the unlock.
- synyster, on 01/19/2008, -0/+3that will be very heavy :)
- br0ken1128, on 01/19/2008, -0/+2Well no, you need to be able to activate it ... that's the trick, and that trick requires that you "jailbreak" the phone .. my iPhone is unlocked with simfree, when I upgraded to 1.1.1 it was still unlocked, but it wasn't activated which means I couldn't get to the home screen until someone hacked the activation.
- noahhoward, on 01/19/2008, -0/+2That'd be good but can't you already email in to google docs?
- noahhoward, on 01/19/2008, -1/+3Again, why jailbreak the version that allows you to create apps?
- likwidfuzion, on 01/19/2008, -0/+1I think that was clearly stated already.
- microbreak, on 01/19/2008, -1/+2I guess you'll just have to weight until February.
- synyster, on 01/19/2008, -0/+1can't wait to get ssh server on iphone, wireless sync!
- yagran, on 01/20/2008, -0/+1ah i do know that, ive had my iphone for a few months now, im saying wake me up when the unlock is available not just the jailbreak.
- likwidfuzion, on 01/19/2008, -0/+1Cause third-party apps are free and most of the time, open source.
- indiekiduk, on 01/19/2008, -1/+2there is no 1.1.3 jailbreak released yet
- ColdDimSum, on 01/19/2008, -0/+1For one, there is no guarantee that the SDK will allow people to do what they can do with a jailbreak(broken) phone or how long it will take for those features to be available post SDK release or how much it will cost to be able to sign apps (or have them signed depending on how much of a control-freak apple decides to be).
- luchid, on 01/19/2008, -1/+1I don't think you understand how the process works. You need your phone to be jailbroken to load the unlocking app (AnySIM) onto the phone.
- nunofgs, on 01/19/2008, -2/+2From http://i.unlock.no/ (a respectable source):
"1.1.3 was released on January 15. It was jailbreaked at jan 19th (read/write access), but nok unlocked - DON'T upgrade yet! Secpack from 1.1.3 has been found." - wonderchemist, on 01/19/2008, -7/+7Who's this we?
- Ireland, on 01/19/2008, -10/+10The sooner we get this jailbroken the better!
- yagran, on 01/19/2008, -2/+1i just want an unlocked iphone, i dont care for the jailbreak tbh.
- mbonetti, on 01/19/2008, -2/+1Apps will be distributed and signed by Apple, and I doubt they'll let you download anything like anySIM anytime soon.

- synyster, on 01/19/2008, -2/+1i think you miss the point of having iphone, it's about functionalities(OS X - possibility are endless) not simply a phone with eye candy interface.
