- JonProject, on 11/09/2009, -6/+32Yup, and these products can ONLY be made by Apple. All other companies, real or fictional, are not good enough or "innovative" enough to make such elite products.
God dammit people. - airwalke, on 11/09/2009, -1/+16The last item speaks the truth... I remember when I first heard about the possibility of an "iPhone", and immediately thought of that one Sony Ericsson phone that was compatible with iTunes. I couldn't possibly imagine how Apple would make such a phone, much less why they would. Then they blew us away with the multi-touch screen. As much as you might hate Apple, you can't deny what a game changer that was.

- mkriss5681, on 11/09/2009, -0/+11I think Apple would like to not repeat the mid-nineties and keep their brand name from being watered down by slapping on junk.
- appleseed1234, on 11/09/2009, -0/+8A Chimera would be great if it was technologically feasible or affordable.

- FlipSparrow86, on 11/09/2009, -0/+5Of course Apple wouldn't make any of those 16 products based off of these mock-ups. They're all hideously ugly.
- ricksite, on 11/09/2009, -0/+4I think that is the point they are making. People ARE buying the iPhone in spite of the network sucking.
- RegalBegal, on 11/09/2009, -8/+1217. A product that isn't 100% proprietary.
- TheNik, on 11/09/2009, -0/+4Since when were Apple products 100% proprietary? Intel processors, nVidia and ATi video cards... Actually, I'm pretty sure everything but half of OS X and a few things inside their products are made by other companies.
- skribble, on 11/09/2009, -0/+3Well, while not necessarily true, for the most part Apple is in the best position to to do these. No other company combines the hardware and software expertise, R&D, supply chain, cash, and size to really make dent here. Because Apple tries to control it whole universe, they are on of the few companies that possesses all the pieces to accomplish stylish effective new consumer tech devices (yes much of it is closed and proprietary, which causes some ill will from a segment of the tech community, but just because you may not like it doesn't mean that it's not the right thing for the company to do... it offers tons of competitive advantages, and often leads to better UX for consumers).
Companies like Microsoft make a fine OS (which, thought they license it to others to use isn't itself any more open than Apples OS) to drive gadgets, but don't make many gadgets themselves (and if they did would cause a big fallout with their hardware partners... not to mention they don't have the manufacturing / distribution / supply chain experience to do this with out a number of big mistakes).
OpenSource is a nice model of Software for those with the time to devote to it, and it produces some lovey results (Android, WebKit, Linux, BSD... worth pointing out that Apple contributes a great deal of resources and code to the OpenSource community) but Hardware cost more then time, so this isn't an option for mass consumption (though there is a place for OpenSource hardware development... something I like to tinker with myself)
There are lots of electronics manufactures that could pull off the hardware side of this, but they would often fall short on the whole UX part of the equation, especially on the level where hardware and software work together to provide the total experience. - MacParrot, on 11/09/2009, -0/+3And yet one more Digg article where you couldn't help but make that statement
- cyclopssmiley, on 11/09/2009, -7/+10If you dream about apple products you might be a fanboy.
- yttrstein, on 11/09/2009, -1/+3And hello to 50 bucks per month per GIG over the 5g limited unlimited plan. Careful what you wish for, jackson.
- krisrm, on 11/09/2009, -0/+2Agreed, I'm no fan of the iPhone, but my favourite byproduct of the iPhone is Android, which would undoubtedly suck if it's competition were, say, Windows Mobile :p . I just hope Apple can push the envelope past the 3GS's "S for speed", and force Google to take things a step further. As long as both companies play fair, competition is beneficial to everyone :)

- StandardsDT, on 11/09/2009, -2/+4"Apple's third-party application system has sparked a revolution that has made the handset more important than the carrier"
Umm has this guy not heard of all the complaints people have about AT&T? Last I checked/heard many people are holding off on purchasing an iPhone and waiting for it to hit other carriers like Verizon. So no the handset is not more important than the carrier, if the carrier sucks then trying to use the handset you bought on a crappy network is pointless unless you just like using apps and nothing else. - Iggins, on 11/09/2009, -0/+2the iRing? I thought that was some designers joke.... and I dont think MSnbc got it.....
- robwhite1979, on 11/09/2009, -0/+2I sometimes wonder if these images are made by fans or if they're part of some kind of covert market research. The "Apple Camera" in this article even asks "Would you be interested in purchasing something like this? Let us know in the comments!" or something to that effect... That sounds suspiciously like a survey question to me...
- thisthatwhat, on 11/09/2009, -0/+2FTA: " The iShow is functional and stylish — just be careful not to let it roll off the table."
And how do you suppose you achieve that? It's like a wheel and that's what wheel's do -- they roll! :P - MacParrot, on 11/09/2009, -0/+2The only one remotely interesting was the iPod Slide. It makes sense in ways that most of the others didn't. Easier portability as compared to the iPod Classic without the bulk except when you want a screen.

- MacParrot, on 11/09/2009, -0/+2As much as ATT sucks, what does that have to do with third-party applications and how easy it is to put them on an iPhone?
- pgriffinmonmout, on 11/09/2009, -2/+3Verizon iPhone in Q3 2010 - goodbye AT&T
- ricksite, on 11/09/2009, -1/+2If that is what you want, why wouldn't you just buy a PC?
- chingy1788, on 11/09/2009, -0/+1Unfortunately... all portable devices need a battery
More Awesomeness needs more processing power which needs more battery which means bigger battery
Apple watch... or lets go more general and call them Smart Watches will have a very limited battery life maybe a day or two battery life compared to a year or two with a normal watch
iPod Slide... Again the battery must be shrunk reducing battery life...
Until we see better batteries or wireless electricity these devices remain a dream - TheNik, on 11/09/2009, -0/+1Yeah, but most of those people still want to keep their iPhones and thus will continue to remain on AT&T until some sort of alternative appears.
- specialK16, on 11/09/2009, -0/+1I actually like the redesign of the site.... except for the fact that they decided to keep those ***** huge ads on top.
- Bentleyk9, on 11/09/2009, -0/+1I'm ready to ditch AT&T. Mainly because I get neither voice nor data service at my home or work, both of which are in an urban area. So if I had the option of voice or data (Verizon) or neither voice nor data (AT&T), the choice is quite simple.
- Probatus, on 11/09/2009, -1/+2If I am not mistaken the early Motorola Rokr did too.
- dhmlco, on 11/09/2009, -0/+1The iMac / tablet makes no sense at all. Why constrain a desktop machine with the processor and storage requirements of a portable device?
Better to have the tablet wirelessly sync your documents with your desktop, or the desktop be able to use the tablet's storage as your Home document's folder. - jakemiles, on 11/09/2009, -0/+1If you want to see these products become a reality you have a much better shot approaching anyone other than Apple.
- TheNik, on 11/09/2009, -0/+1I think the fabled Verizon iPhone would be running on LTE, which has that capability. Isn't it simply the CDMA protocol that doesn't have simultaneous voice and data support?
- Dan050, on 11/09/2009, -0/+1What the hell.... 17 pages... buried even though I would like to see the content but my common sense prevents me.
- rushover, on 11/09/2009, -0/+1That msnbc website looks like a massive collection of spam *****... Wait it is!
- rushover, on 11/09/2009, -0/+1MSNBC's attempt to generate more traffic so more of their spam is viewed.

"VESA is finalizing DisplayPort 1.2, which incorporates mDP and doubles available bandwidth to 21.6 Gb/second. The increased bandwidth enables new capabilities such as multi-monitor support via a single output connector, higher resolutions, refresh rates and color depths, along with high performance 3D displays."[1]
Mini DisplayPort may not have been a standard, but it's about to be.
[1]http://www.vesa.org/ - allnuts, on 11/08/2009, -2/+2I like the nano-classic ipod that had the sliding pinwheel, also i like the idea of a nano phone
- Braxo, on 11/09/2009, -2/+2AT&T has a hard limit too on data.
As much as I hate AT&T as a company, their network still allows for voice and data to be transferred simultaneous. That is something I really can't give up. - lesmckeown, on 11/09/2009, -2/+2What about 17 windows products we could only dream about?
- AndrewMoyer, on 11/09/2009, -1/+1@FredFredrickson: The notch is only on the extension part. You can plug the keyboard and mouse into any other computer. Who really care's about a 4' USB extension cable anyways? I know it's weird, but that is pretty weak grounds to attack them. Personally, I recommend a decent Bluetooth keyboard and mouse.
@krisrm: I got a system with 8 cores of Nehalem Xeon power several months before the same chips were out on the retail market or in any other vendor's hands, so the price premium was worth it to me. Apple products usually are a decent buy if you purchase them right when they refresh their product offering. If you wait too long, then it becomes a price premium because Apple doesn't adjust their pricing too often without releasing a hardware update. - FearFactory, on 11/09/2009, -6/+616 Apple products we can only dream about while other companies have had them available for the past 5 years.
- AndrewMoyer, on 11/09/2009, -7/+7Imagine if Apple used industry standard hardware in their laptop and workstation product line...
(Pro tip: They do!) - SHAMANVIX, on 11/09/2009, -0/+0It's truly astonishing the way apple has become such a robust company due to their no-slack designs and products. There is no doubt that apple will remain the leader of computer technology and communications. With these 16 new designs and or concepts ever to be released into the market. They will continue to dominate the future of technology and maybe even mobility. I don't want to know who agrees with me, but i want to know who is not pro apple?.... haha =]
- chingy1788, on 11/09/2009, -2/+1"17. A product that isn't 100% proprietary." prevents him from buying a mac :P
- FredFredrickson, on 11/09/2009, -3/+2Tell that to the notched USB cord they bundle with their mouse / keyboard with "pro" workstations, Andrew.
