- Ireland, on 10/10/2007, -3/+24Apple, add Adobe flash, Java, copy/cut/paste/delete, a voice recorder, a 3MP camera, 16GB of storage, all the other 15 items in this well informed article and keep it at the same price, and the iPhone would be as near to perfect as it could get right now, and anybody who wouldn't buy one would be foolish. As as now, the iPhone just isn't there. It's such a promising device, with such a marvelous user-interface anything that it could conceivably have, but doesn't, shows up like a sore, and possibly broken thumb.

ps... Half of these could be done with this version of the iPhone via a software update. And when Leopard comes out, I would bet they will. - epyon180, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1212 of the 15 things can be done with software updates.
- rollerxpig, on 10/10/2007, -3/+14I think they did their part on that good enough already. :)
- fuzzmeister, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11The problem with Flash is that a huge percentage of Flash apps rely on knowing where your mouse is at any given time (for example, rollovers or games). Since the iPhone doesn't have a cursor, that would make a lot, if not most, Flash apps not run well or at all on the iPhone.

- fuzzmeister, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10Kismac would be cool (if a bit far-fetched), but you must be smoking something if you think Apple would support it.
- TimmyGUNZ, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Hasn't Apple already said that will be coming via a software update?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9You Linux guys can't resist, can you? You're like Canadians, always feeling left out. I pity you. Does Linux support DVD players yet? I'm just asking.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Yes, bring on all the Flash based Web Ads that constantly pop up, annoying the hell of people. Yeah, that's exactly what the iPhone needs.
- mikev, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Actually I think Jobs mentioned something about "if you get a new idea, you can easily roll it out via software updates because there is only one button" at Macworld. I think we will eventually get most of these things in a SW update, with the exceptions of 3G and GPS (or maybe that too, I think I read that the current iPhones do have the proper hardware but it's yet to be enabled..)
- jasondefaoite, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Actually Apple need to skip 3G and go straight for 3.5G HSDPA. 3G only gives speeds upto 300+ kb/s, whereas HSDPA is up to 7Mb/s.
- cgruber, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5flash video would make me happy by itself.
- deadbaby, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5The iPhone has Bluetooth but it would be nice to see it get A2DP, PAN & IO support.
- kingkilr, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Most of this stuff is software only, apple take note!
- judsond, on 10/10/2007, -0/+416. Ability to pull iCal feeds into the calendar app directly from the web.
- jaymulder, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6Bring it to Canada and I might care.
- pinfu, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4In the mean time: http://code.google.com/p/iphone-wireless/
- sspooner, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5what about MMS ?
- anonym41414, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5No problem. But the battery life would be about six and a half minutes. That's okay, right? After all, for those six and a half minutes you'd have every feature anyone would ever want. Or, like, not want. Like Java for example.
- kalkin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3why is everyone so keen to get 3G? it's a battery killer. i hate having to charge my phone up daily. remember when you only had to charge your phone up once a week? we need to get back to those kind of standards.
- enzomedici, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4
Cut & Paste! Please! - johnpaul191, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3have any of you guys actually used GPS? i mean REAL GPS, not cell phone pseudo-GPS based on triangulation between towers. it uses satellites, and therefore you need to be "in view" of them. i'm all for the fake GPS if it works, which i understand it does, but that's a far cry from GPS.
1) it's power hungry
2) it needs to "see" the sky. it does not work indoors, under a porch, inside a car etc. they often do not even work well in a city because of the buildings blocking the view of the sky. that's why the car units have to be pushed out on the dashboard, or use an external antenna.
GPS is pretty awesome if you are out hiking, on a motorcycle, snowboarding, whatever. the fake GPS that uses cell phone towers is probably a lot more useful. *most* people with iPhone probably have jobs that are under a roof, so if the GPS can't figure out where they are, and then locate the closest restaurant, it's useless. nobody is going to stand outside and hold their arms up in the sky to get a signal. though that may look really funny? - Firehed, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Yeah - only 1, 10, and arguably 2 can't be fixed with a software update. I give GPS "arguably" because you can at least get close with cell tower triangulation - and there's even a third-party app out there (Navizon) that does this. Can't say it works for me, but it does for some people.
- Firehed, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Your current one doesn't have #5?
- fuzzmeister, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3It's never going to have CDMA, as essentially the entire world uses GSM, and it is very expensive to produce two different versions of the same device with very different chipsets. Unless the GSM and CDMA standards merge to create a new standard, of course, which I find highly unlikely.
- nullcodes, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Although the iphone with it's large touchscreen is the type of phone i have wanted for a few years -everytime i told people about it they said touchscreens were stupid and that phones didnt need to have a high res screen --they were only to be for phone calls .. I think it unwise for Apple to run around trying to get people's feedback. If people were smart they would be designing their own phones. Leave other lame companies like motorola and RIM to do user surveys and crap like that to figure out what features to have. It's especially lame to do it based on user voting - in general people think good product ideas are dumb until they actually experience or use it.
- anonym41414, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3It does, but only at a rate of 60 minutes per hour. It sucks.
- movethefloor, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3As of now, no. But join your parent's family plan, then it's cheaper for you! :)
- h3smith, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2iPhone battery changes are covered under warranty lolz

There, fixed it for you. - Firehed, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3What? It's not that everyone seems to hate it, it's that the reasonably-sensible 98% of digg has given up on the remaining 2% who refuse to accept that their phone is a worthless piece of ***** no matter what features it offers. My old phone technically speaking had about the same software features as the iPhone, and technically exceeded it in some areas, but that didn't stop me wanting to launch it out of a cannon every day that I owned that worthless piece of *****.
- fuzzmeister, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Adding CDMA would require a huge reworking of the phone's internals, and the production of two different versions of the iPhone, which would ramp up costs for Apple dramatically. So, I see it as unlikely.
- JBSherman, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2The family plan is the cheapest way. I added my iphone to my mom's plan and it costs me 20 bucks a month. She has 11,000 roll over minutes so it was perfect.
- _skin_, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3You can use it as a prepaid. Or unlock it and take it to T-Mobile.
- pixelperfect, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I think (s)he is referring to the ability to subscribe to a NEW podcast, on the go - which would be nice, but possibly hard to sync back.
- chromecast, on 10/10/2007, -1/+31. Copy and Paste
2. Replaceable Battery
3. Mini or Micro SD Slot
4. GPS
5. Video Capture - adie, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Once they put HSDPA (3G) in the phone, you need to be able to share the internet connection via bluetooth like pretty much every windows mobile phone already does.
- grapesofbaath, on 10/10/2007, -2/+47 Things I want in my next Honda CRV:
1) More feet room for the driver.
2) GPS onboard
3) Minimum gas mileage of 65 mpg
4) Ability to travel backwards in time
5) Abiltiy to travel forwards in time
6) Ability to hover a minimum of 20 feet in the air.
7) Arrow-proof gas tank
Oh man, oh man, I can't wait for that 2008! - Firehed, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2It's got proper email. And unlike texting/MMS, you don't get charged for each message you send or receive. If you really need to send something to somebody's phone, http://www.livejournal.com/tools/textmessage.bml?m ...
- gemmakicn, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Um linus torvald made it possible, and in fact on linux we don't even need to think about region coding... even on rpc-2 drives :D
- GreenAlien, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Add to that list a podcasting client and the ability to subscribe via the iTunes Wifi Music store.
- NeoRicen, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Myybe if you want a battery life of .06 minutes.
- mohrt, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4Removable storage.
Replaceable battery. - MacParrot, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2It's a bitch to be stuck in the present
- MacParrot, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2You're going to freak out because someone called into question your money management skills over a monthly data plan? But you'll spend $399 on a PHONE? I can certainly understand your need for a phone, bur why do you need one like an iPhone (or any other smartphone for that matter). Get the free one that comes with your cheap plan and don't worry about it if you can't send text messages or take pictures or whatever you think you need a phone like this for.
Don't plead poverty and say you need an iPhone in the same sentence - ivanvanderbyl, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2WCDMA is also available in Australia, but only on Telstra's Next G network, which is an overpriced joke of a carrier.
- anonym41414, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Mobile iChat is coming sooner than you might guess.
- Jrr6415sun, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Being realistic, the following will NOT happen in iphone 2.0
1) 3rd party development
2) iChat
3)I can't see them realistically adding a GPS, I have an iphone and it would make the maps application 10X better, but I don't think Apple would do it, as it's an expensive feature and a lot of people wouldn't necessarily see the need for it.
The rest are believable though - krokodil, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I think it is much better to see what are most wanted features for iPhone accoridig user voting are. Digg style:
