- miles01110, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Yeah, Uno is lightweight, easier to install, cleaner looking, and not a hassle to get rid of. Can't say the same for Shapeshifter.
- Brajeshwar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I got ShapeShifter from MacHeist Bundle but I don't find much themes that appeal to me. So, I went back to OS X default with Uno.
- randomgeek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Yeah, same here. It's made my Mac feel a lot more like Windows - Usually when the desktop comes up on the screen, it's ready to do. With ShapeShifter/Application Enhancer I need to wait 2-3 minutes after the desktop loads to actually start using it, otherwise there is insane disk thrashing.
- moochamerth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I found that the Application Enhancer on which ShapeShifter is based sometimes caused a lot of Spotlight activity and disk trashing on my iMac Intel. Uninstalling it solved the problem.
- rstarr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3PhotoPro 1.4 is a good one to check out.
- sleepwalkers, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Try http://www.macthemesforums.net to find some of the newest themes.
Not all of the themes get posted on sites like Interfacelift and the like, and it seems that some of the best get lost on these forums.
And no, I'm not trying to drive traffic (I've just been a member for a very long time), I'm serious about that. - DanielNielsen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3And ***** you too my good sir.
- randomgeek, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3It really bugs me that you need to pay real cash money to do any of this. Why has Apple not included a themeing engine like every other OS in existance? Why should I have to pay $20 for ShapeShifter just to make my windows a different shade of grey? It could be that I'm just used to Linux, but Gnome/KDE allow for complete and total customization, but on my Mac, I need to pay $32 for ShapeShifter and Candybar? Ridiculous. Also, they forgot to mention that IconBuilder is eighty-freakin-bucks.
Uno looks great and is free. End of story. - darkamster07, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I am using unity right now, and I like it allot, but anyone know any cool themes? or strange themes? also, whatever happened to that Digg theme?
Also, I was surprised that the free app "cleardock" was not mentioned, it lets you totally change the look of the dock: the color, the border, the transparency, or you can remove the background completely so your icons just float there; it is perfect if you have a specifically colored shapeshifter theme, and want to make the look complete (like a black dock): http://www.unsanity.com/haxies/cleardock - KMartSheriff, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3This is why I hate middle schoolers.
- theDose™, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Uno rocks. That's the one thing I found when "switching" over many years ago to the Mac and especially after Uno came out that I don't really need or want to "tweak" the interface. I'm content to have it blend away in the background, living unnoticeable and irrelevant so that I can just continue on with work and not think about. Sure I do the odd icon/wallpaper switch, but not like I was with windows and doing complete shell/explorer replacements. I'd rather spend my time being productive. :)
- attention, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1or you can do that same exact thing with "transparent dock" and not have to put up with unsanity and the stuff they make you install
its listed as shareware but its pretty much free. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3cowabunga!
my imac should be here tomorrow. :) isn't that grand? - Ludwig, on 10/12/2007, -20/+5No, ***** websites that don't have any margins.
