- dmoffitt, on 01/02/2009, -1/+37wtf, why is "911" in the title??
- mehan, on 01/02/2009, -0/+28that was incredibly dumb.
- Phil13, on 01/02/2009, -2/+22As a very long time Mac user, I wish more of them would follow the last one.
- Linkin4, on 01/02/2009, -23/+43You Mac people amaze me at the total crap that you digg to the front page...
- Rikkochet, on 01/02/2009, -2/+17I've been calling 1-800-FLOWERS. Is that not right?
- inactive, on 01/01/2009, -2/+15I was going to say it suggests a bigger problem...how have your parents been getting along lately? Any late night arguments?
- rivalius13, on 01/02/2009, -2/+12With Time Machine you have no excuse NOT to back up. Well, as long as you have Leopard.
- jer21, on 01/02/2009, -1/+10Jackass.
- falafelkiosken, on 01/02/2009, -0/+9wow, looking at that guys profile make you wonder why he isn't banned yet
- Ragzouken, on 01/02/2009, -1/+9I call 999.
- s4g4n, on 01/02/2009, -2/+10Can these digg titles seem more stupid than they really are?
- drgmdp, on 01/02/2009, -1/+9my prediction is that you're just a interwebs tough guy that won't even look one of them in the eyes
- whodaimen, on 01/02/2009, -4/+11No, they forgot to mention:
• I resolve to seriously consider Windows 7.
As a Windows user since 3.1, I can honestly say that 7 is the best. By far. It's as though they combined the easy GUI and processes management of OSX, and the non-***** aspects of vista. I have had several macbooks, but would never consider a desktop Mac. I always ran into issues getting my latest software. I tried using bootcamp/parallels, it didn't really help for ***** when everything was in a VM. It's more of a proof-of-concept than an actual tool.
To me, a Mac is a portable OS for the computer illiterate. Its fast, functional, and easy to navigate, but I personally would go crazy having that kind of experience at home. - chillymanilli, on 01/02/2009, -0/+7Big scary man is being nasty to me mummy
- icurnvs, on 01/02/2009, -1/+7Chris Breen's column in Macworld has been called Mac 911 for years. I'm fairly certain that it predates the 9/11 tragedy. I do think that he should think about renaming the column as "911" will never have the same meaning for us again.
- chillymanilli, on 01/02/2009, -1/+7you're the only arsehole
- Balanced, on 01/02/2009, -1/+7Ever consider that might be a Samba problem?
- mrBitch, on 01/02/2009, -1/+7RE: "since buying my Macbook all I've seen posted anywhere in the OS is that I need to buy an Apple Time Capsule in order to set up backups."
That's strange, everything I have ever read on Time Machine says it works on any external drive, as long as you can format it to Extended Journaled format. - mogebier, on 01/02/2009, -4/+10Ah. It's nice to see Digg back to normal after the election. I missed all the senseless and loving posts about people jizzing over Apple products.
- icurnvs, on 01/02/2009, -1/+6Wow, harsh. I estimate that according to your standards, exactly 3 people on earth deserve to be alive. It's a great idea, but I doubt the vast majority of people do it.
- REBELinBLUE, on 01/02/2009, -3/+801189998819991197253
- ScientistBlah, on 01/02/2009, -2/+7Stop digging this *****. I'm a mac user and this article was ***** retarded.
- Rikkochet, on 01/02/2009, -0/+5Best. Comment. Ever.
"I wish a choking death upon anyone who doesn't fill out their ID3 and EXIF metadata tags in their media!"
Step away and take a deep breath, dude. - icurnvs, on 01/02/2009, -0/+5Uh-oh..looks like you've become one of "those Linux people". :)
- Falstaph, on 01/02/2009, -0/+4A squeaky hard drive is bad?
- falafelkiosken, on 01/02/2009, -0/+4wow, your life must be really crappy
- HookmasterCH47, on 01/01/2009, -2/+6My dad does the whole repair permissions thing every single day, it's annoying as hell.
- lead2thehead, on 01/02/2009, -2/+6New Years resolutions are a waste of time. Nobody every sticks to them. If you didn't see a reason to do these things last year, you won't do them this year. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm heading off to the gym to wait in line behind a hundred fat chicks for a treadmill so that I can do my daily workout.
- Chairboy, on 01/02/2009, -4/+8Wait, so now _Apple_ did WTC? It's so difficult keeping all the conspiracy theories straight...
- russj117, on 01/02/2009, -1/+5dugg for the mac daily vitamin
- falafelkiosken, on 01/02/2009, -0/+3you shouldn't lay off your medication like that
- aserer511, on 01/02/2009, -0/+3• I resolve to tag and rate my media—photos and music—when I first import it with the idea that two years from now I might want to find it.
if you're not doing this, you don't deserve the air you breathe, be you a mac, pc, linux or commodore 64 owner - therightclique, on 01/05/2009, -0/+3Why the hell would anyone rate their media. You'd have to have brain damage.
- sbluetruck, on 01/02/2009, -0/+3he never said that his dad needed to.
it's just like my dad and his weekly disk defrag, even if not much has changed on the computer - Epitaph, on 01/04/2009, -0/+3@Linkin4: I love mac and I'm with you on that one
- CrushThemTorg, on 01/02/2009, -0/+3OS 8.6 WAS AN INSIDE JOB! Wake up, sheeple!
- ileftfark, on 01/02/2009, -1/+4lol @ tech writer of a column for Apple "tips, tricks, and solutions" who calls Tech Support.
- DCstewieG, on 01/02/2009, -0/+3I began rating my music when I got my iTouch in April. Since then I've rated almost two thirds of my collection (I think it's about 10 days worth or so). Let me tell you, it's a long process but it has been so worth it. My system is:
5: If I could only listen to one song forever, it would be one of these.
4: Great, great song, but not quite perfect.
3: Something about this song makes it a little better than average or memorable.
2: Average. Still like the song (it's on my iPod after all) but nothing special.
1: Don't like. This is reserved for songs that I want to keep around for some reason but normally don't care for, or when I want to leave a CD complete, even if I don't like a song.
The distribution is something like:
|--1--|--------------------2-----------------|---------3-------|-----4----|--5--|
When I'm in the car, I'll either listen to everything and rate (that's where I've done most of my rating) or to 2+. If I feel a little less like skipping songs every now and then, 3+. When I'm out shoveling snow, it's 4+.
This sounds all dorky, but it has been great. I now wish the iPod had "on the fly" smart playlists, so I could select a mode and play all of the n+ rated songs. You would have your own greatest hits CD for every artist, genre, and playlist you have.
It's also much easier to find new music. I can dump CDs on there and eventually the songs I don't care for are at 1 star and any gems are easy to find and keep. - judicar, on 01/02/2009, -2/+5Congrats on being "that guy". Every Mac submission has one.
- drgmdp, on 01/02/2009, -1/+4lol
- woofers07, on 01/02/2009, -2/+5*generic mac-bashing comment in order to get diggs by the loyalists
- RandyGandy, on 01/03/2009, -0/+2" I resolve to be polite when speaking with any tech support person because I understand that my problems were not caused by the person I’m speaking with."
as a someone who works in the industry its so true, most people blame you for the OS's issues or that they dropped the shinny aluminum computer in the bath tub. - bpeacock22, on 01/02/2009, -2/+4Ha ha. Good article. Part funny. Part true. I do wish I had rated my music from the beginning. So I went back and gave 4 and 5 stars to some songs. Don't really mess with 3 or less.
But seriously, people...please resolve to do this one:
I resolve to be polite when speaking with any tech support person because I understand that my problems were not caused by the person I’m speaking with. - vanjab, on 01/01/2009, -4/+6That suggests a bigger problem.. perhaps your hard drive is dying.
- therightclique, on 01/05/2009, -0/+2A great Mac article for people who aspire to be grandmas.
No computer user with half a clue should need this list.
Just because someone's a Mac user doesn't mean they're *completely* retarded. - drgmdp, on 01/02/2009, -3/+5methinks something is wrong with your life if your new year resolutions revolve around a computer......
- Goda90, on 01/02/2009, -2/+4something about these creep me out. specifically the 2nd, 3rd, 7th, and last one. its like a cult where you buy things from the master and try to get others into the cult.
- gaucho4, on 01/03/2009, -0/+2Working in tech support myself I can appreciate the one about being nice to the person helping you fix your problem.
- vipertech, on 01/02/2009, -0/+2Steve Jobs?
