​The New York City subway system is both a marvel — in terms of the sheer amount of connectivity it offers in a huge city — and a disaster — in terms of the deterioration of the infrastructure itself. 

After heavy rains on Wednesday night, commuters found themselves in a flooded station — and one nearly found himself swept onto the tracks after a torrent of water pushed over a temporary construction wall:

 

And if you thought you were safe and dry once you got onto the train, well, you weren't:
