OH THE HORROR

Many horror movie villains have left an indelible impression upon our minds over the years, but when it comes to Google searches, some seem to haunt certain states more than most.

Using Google Trends, telecommunications company Frontier analyzed the search volume of characters they believe to be the most popular villains from classic, pre-2000 horror movies. They looked at the data from the past 12 months to see which villain had the highest search volume in each state:

Norman Bates is by far the most-searched horror movie villain in the US. The "Psycho" and "Bates Motel" villain is the most Googled villain in 13 states and, as Frontier points out, seems to have especially captured the imagination of people from the Midwest.

The second-most popular villain is Chucky. The villain of the "Child's Play" franchise is the most Googled scary movie character in 11 states, including Illinois, the state where a large part of "Child's Play" was filmed, according to Frontier.
