​In an interview with NBC's Lester Holt, Donald Trump appeared to say that he fired FBI Director James Comey because of the FBI's investigation into the Trump campaign's potential ties to Russia, a revelation that could veer dangerously close to obstruction of justice:

Elsewhere in the interview, Trump contradicted the White House's Tuesday announcement that FBI Director James Comey was fired on the recommendation of the Attorney General and Deputy Attorney General. 

In reality, Trump told Holt, the firing was his idea and he would have done it even without recommendation from the Attorney General:
