SHAPES ARE THE NEW PIXELS
·Updated:

We're all sick-to-death of ubiquitous photo filters. Instagram's hazy nostalgia lenses became passé in 2014, Snapchat's augmented reality tech is too creepy and Prisma loses all its charm when you realize you're using sophisticated AI to make crummy Van Gogh knock-offs. Forget all of those: Primitive is the coolest marriage of photography and tech today.

Created by Michael Fogelman, Primitive recreates photos using vector shapes, and @PrimitivePic tweets out examples around the clock. The shape varieties, number of shapes and accuracy of the recreation can all be tweaked. Here are some of the best examples Fogleman's Twitter bot has posted — click on the image and you'll see the original photo:

The bot tweets a new photo every half hour — if you're interested in how Primitive works, there's an explanation at the official site. Fogleman's made the core of Primitive open source and you can purchase a fully-featured version through the Mac App Store.
