When He-Said-She-Said Journalism Just Doesn't Cut It

The standard of "objective" political journalism has traditionally been the reporting of statements by politicians without judgment on their veracity — leaving the reader to interpret what he or she said. The Commission On Presidential Debates Is Actually Extremely Unfair

It's easy to scoff at the pleas of third-party candidates to be included on the debate stages before November's election. There's no chance they'll ever win, right? Well, that's basically true, but when you considering the fact that the two main parties control the debates, that a previous third-party candidate has won nearly 20% of the general vote, and that voting is America's primary form of political speech — one has to wonder how fair and democratic it is to keep third parties off the stage.

On Sunday's "Face The Nation," John Dickerson pushed Trump campaign manager Kellyanne Conway on the implications of Trump's birther reversal, asking "Donald Trump advocated something for five years that was a lie. Rather than push back on the assertion that Trump was peddling lies, she essentially affirmed the statement and then diverted the question, saying "Well, you're going to have to ask him, but again, I think this is a side show now." At least she's being honest.
