When he died in 2000, Robert Hoquim was a successful businessman and a beloved member of his community of Noblesville, Indiana, a suburb outside of Indianapolis. Ten years earlier Hoquim had founded an internet service provider called IQuest, "the oldest and largest regional ISP in Indiana." He was also a motorsports enthusiast who enjoyed racing cars, particularly Dodge Vipers, with his friends.

Robert Hoquim was known as a pillar of his community. But he wasn't really known by his community at all. In the aftermath of his death, Robert Hoquim's driver's license was discovered to be fake. So was his name. Robert Hoquim was the assumed alias of a man named John Paul Aleshe. And John Paul Aleshe was a fugitive, wanted by the FBI for capital murder.
