News Shocker: Ron Paul biggest GOP fundraiser last quarter
latimesblogs.latimes.com — Believe it or not, Rep. Ron Paul, the 72-year-old Texan who hardly ever gets mentioned in Republican political news and the one-time libertarian who always gets the least time on TV debates if he isn't barred completely, was, in fact, the most successful Republican fundraiser in the last three months of 2007.

- rhpaulite, on 02/01/2008, -1/+21It's my understanding Candidates had to have their Campaign Contribution Reports turned in yesterday & that RON PAUL received more contributions than ANY OTHER GOP CANDIDATE (3 times as much as McInsane), but the Federal Election Commission isn't going to release the figures now as that'd give RON PAUL's campaign a huge boost & instead will not release the figures until after the primary elections on 2/5.
ANYONE KNOW IF THIS IS TRUE?- vuke69, on 02/01/2008, -0/+2Numbers for RP are right here:

- jraymilton, on 02/01/2008, -0/+23Remember when money-raised was "important," back before we raised craploads of it for He Who Must Not Be Mentioned By Name??
- RP4408, on 02/01/2008, -0/+15Of course, this story was posted in a blog were those already in the know about RP's format would not be surprised by the feat. Pandering to the choir. The conspiracy of silence will continue until one of the anointed ones becomes president. BUT, the message of freedom will live on and continue to influence government for generations to come.
- jraymilton, on 02/01/2008, -0/+7Yes, if it were truly a NEWS shocker, one would think it would be in their "NEWS" section, instead of featured on their blog. My theory is that since they know we own the 'net, they figure they can do CNN's trick and call themselves "fair" if they just put stuff in obscure parts of the web. As long as it's not on TV or dead-trees, the agenda works, and it's hard to own the internet any more than we already-do, considering things like Digg making their algorithms deliberately dishonest on order to mask our utter domination...
- chupavacas, on 02/01/2008, -0/+25Most money raised. Strongest grass-roots support. Wins every debate and yet the GOP chooses McCain: pathetic. The party is going to get exactly what it is bargaining for: a bitch slap of epic porportions by the Dems in November.

- bgstreet, on 02/01/2008, -2/+16remember ron paul gets more monetary donations from the militry than any other candidate. why is that, America?
- jasqwerty, on 02/01/2008, -3/+2Remember, Ron Paul supporters like to make up and exaggerate things. Why is that America?
- bgstreet, on 02/01/2008, -1/+2do u happen to have an example to which we can refer?
- jasqwerty, on 02/01/2008, -1/+1Your comment for example
- Lowrider49, on 02/01/2008, -1/+3It's true, Veterans support Ron Paul, and the donation facts are also true:
http://www.ronpaul2008.com/veterans/- jasqwerty, on 02/01/2008, -0/+1Oh wow, a candidates propaganda website, that's reliable...
Now, your comparison to every other candidate is where?- Lowrider49, on 02/01/2008, -1/+1I'll leave that one up to you.
- jasqwerty, on 02/01/2008, -0/+1That's a convenient way to sidestep admitting you were wrong. When you're making claims, it's up to you to support them. Backing away from wanting to support them can only mean one thing. I accept your admission of defeat.
- bgstreet, on 02/01/2008, -1/+0this one is abc, is that ok with you? obama leads the dems and paul leads the repubs...... http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/story?id=3601542&pa ...
- jasqwerty, on 02/01/2008, -0/+1>>is that ok with you?
Not really, next time try an article that isn't over 4 months old maybe? McCain and Huck both raised more in military donations than Paul in Q4 according to http://www.ronpaulforums.com/showpost.php?p=114889 ...
Again, I accept your admission of defeat.

- gta3mobster, on 02/01/2008, -0/+17It's funny how the candidates who are supposed to be good at balancing budgets and reducing spending can't even manage their campaign bank account.
I don't agree with all of Ron Paul's views, but at least he has the balls to disagree and hold true with what he believes in. The more I see the other candidates talk the more I hate all of them. Paul is the first politician I actually respect. Also "***** the government." is his general message... I thought people always wanted this?
I like the media disregarding him: There's nothing interesting about being responsible; nothing they can attack or gossip about. Being responsible is boring. They need something to talk about and since all the other politicians constantly contradict themselves it gets them into the news.- macman2k, on 02/01/2008, -0/+5You assume the media only cares about what people "want" to watch. The media shows you what THEY want you to watch and do not care what the average individual is interested in. How many crime scene investigation shows are there now? Numbers, Law & Order, Bones, CSI, 24, and the list could go on. How many did there use to be and what were their nature? Matlock, Murder She Wrote, etc were all mystery shows that didn't glorify the police/FBI and in fact made them out to be idiots by glorifying average citizens. You would think that the media wants us to "accept" these horrible abuses of government power by integrating them into our entertainment.
The media has an agenda and their profit as an industry (5 colluding companies) hinges on advertisers and government power. If the media has a monopoly and the advertisers need them then they are forced to pay regardless of the quality of stuff on TV.

- THEROC, on 02/01/2008, -0/+7It looks like he is having another 1 million++ donation day today:
http://paulcash.slact.net/ - Lowrider49, on 02/01/2008, -0/+9Elect Ron Paul or else the Democrats win in 2008. If anyone actually thinks McCain or Romney can clean up this mess with more of the same, then think again. Go ahead, donate more of your tax money for more illegal foreign wars, or to pay for someone else's health insurance. It's your money, do what you want. Personally, I'd like to keep mine for a change.....hmmm...change....Ever hear that before? Who has real change on the table? No one but Ron Paul.
- Ridgeliner7, on 02/01/2008, -6/+2If supporters of Ron Paul really want him to win, they wouldn't resort to spamming sites with inaccurate and misleading "news" items, would they? Is it worth winning if one has to do that?
- NotAChickenHawk, on 02/01/2008, -0/+5Whatis misleading about this?
- Lowrider49, on 02/01/2008, -0/+4I'll second that. What's misleading about this article? Seems you don't even know what misleading is any more. Try looking at the other candidates issues and solutions, then you will know what misleading is.
- THEROC, on 02/01/2008, -0/+6"The 72-year-old Texan who hardly ever gets mentioned in Republican political news and the one-time libertarian who always gets the least time on TV debates if he isn't barred completely, was, in fact, the most successful Republican fundraiser in the last three months of 2007."
They've got that right. Does anyone still have the chart that lists the airtime that each candidate has received over the last month?- NotAChickenHawk, on 02/01/2008, -0/+3No, don't have that info, but a recent youtube clip of all Ron Paul's responses from the debate at the Reagan Library ran for about 9 minutes. It was a two hour debate, four candidates. Do the math, its easy to see he got shafted.
- thomoore, on 02/01/2008, -0/+5No surprise that he's getting a lot of money - he's honest about money. Whether he wins or loses, Mr. paul has shown the way to handle campaign money. Mr. McCain's attempt to fix the election system made things worse, but this article
http://www.scragged.com/articles/what-mccain-could ...
explains that Mr. Paul's posting his contributors on his web site makes it easy for us to understand who's behind him. The other politicians know that we know they're owned, but they don't want us to know just WHO owns them. Mr. Paul shows the way, that's why the other politicians hate him and have persuaded the media to ignore him. See also
http://www.scragged.com/articles/congress-and-camp ... - jasqwerty, on 02/01/2008, -7/+2LOL? January 1st? Who gives a *****?
Let's see what's happened since then. McCain has raised 13 million in January and Obama a ***** whooping 35 million in January alone.
That, and it seems like Mr Cunning Fiscal Conservative wasted 18 million dollars before January 1st with exactly dick to show for it. - onetimer, on 02/01/2008, -5/+1Hold on to your money-bomb memories, paulities, because once the frontrunners are established in both parties in a week, Paul's "record" fundraising is going to be over, just like his candidacy.
Even with Paul's 20 million, the guy couldn't afford to run more than 5 ads? Does anybody else see something wrong here? Yet now he's asking for an additional 5 million for his "strategy". 20 million wasn't enough to run a few ads? - swaddict, on 02/01/2008, -1/+5He's also the only one who has not gone into debt during his campaign. Republicans are supposed to be fiscal conservatives, but they keep driving themselves and our country into debt.
- jasqwerty, on 02/01/2008, -3/+2Money you loan yourself isn't 'debt' and you can't be in debt with more cash on hand than forward looking expenses. Keep spouting off your delusions though rontards, your candidate's campaign is about to be mathematically hammered into impossibility.
- NotAChickenHawk, on 02/01/2008, -0/+2Its frusterating that he's raised all this money but can't get out of the single digits in the polls. I'm not sure if its because he's not spent it effectively, or if his anti-war message is so counter to what the Republican trogolytes have had drummed into their heads over andover for the past 5 years that its impossible for his message to resonate with his own party.
- Lowrider49, on 02/01/2008, -0/+4No sympathy for all you dependents that want the Government to spend more of everyone's money on you. By voting for another candidate, you will vote for higher taxes in all forms of taxation, not just income tax, more government regulations and less freedom. I'd rather not pay for more illegal foreign wars and someone else's health insurance and I certainly don't want over 15 million illegal immigrants injected into our country who will stand in line for more handouts. You all seem to be eager to vote for your candidates who present a comfortable and cushy position for you. Ron Paul's position is not so comfortable but it is logical and well constructed for a better America.
- hugh8jass, on 02/02/2008, -0/+3This is only a shocker to those who haven't been paying attention.
