Young Evangelicals Abandoning GOP Over Iraq, Economy
huffingtonpost.com — Michael Dudley is the son of a preacher man. He's a born-again Christian with two family members in the military. He grew up in the Bible Belt, where almost everyone he knew was Republican. But this fall, he's breaking a handful of stereotypes: He plans to vote for Democrat Barack Obama.

- InvsibleChimp, on 05/11/2008, -5/+18My brother is getting a PhD in Christian studies or something along those lines to be a college prof, he is 27, evangelical and last time I talked to him, he planned on voting for Obama. My dad and stepmom, also evangelicals, supported Huckabee in the primaries, but I don't who they plan to vote for in the general. I'm just providing anecdotal evidence for the article.
- debuffplx, on 05/12/2008, -1/+6Christian studies? Is your brother not mentally equipped for a real education?
- ErikHarrison, on 05/12/2008, -1/+1I am suprised your comment didn't start with " I am an atheist"...
- Grumps, on 05/12/2008, -2/+2Congratulation on the PhD!
- cerejota, on 05/13/2008, -0/+1A Christian PhD? Really? That exists? Is that like a creative writing PhD? I mean, both are about imaginary things...

- jessiepanzarino, on 05/11/2008, -7/+12Yes... Jesus is definitely down with Obama. Praise the Lord.
- jefuchs, on 05/12/2008, -0/+3Just PLEASE don't pressure him into a bunch of anti-science legislation.
- ncurses, on 05/12/2008, -19/+15evangelicals are stupid
- moolaismyfriend, on 05/12/2008, -8/+7Agreed they are the reason Bush won the presidency the second time. So screw em' The blood is on their ignorant anti-troops hands.
- spinchange, on 05/12/2008, -2/+6You can blame it on Christians all you want, but Barack is one and I'm sure he'd like them to vote for him in the fall. Beside that, they make up base of the republican party - not it's "swing" fringes. The media "experts" were wrong in 2004 - Bush won because of scared moderates not faithful evangelicals. Karl Rove wants you to think that too because it sounds like their operation was tighter than it was.
- Fordi, on 05/12/2008, -0/+3He's not blaming it on the Christians. In a Venn diagram, Evangelicals fall well inside the Christian bubble.

- wild, on 05/12/2008, -5/+6They aren't stupid. Their priorities are just different than yours. For them, their belief in God drives their decision making process when it comes to politics. They vote Republican because it is the party that promises to protect their traditions.
You and I may think their approach is flawed, but it doesn't make them stupid people. Some very smart men are evangelical Christians. And on a whole, they are no dumber than the rest of America.- Fordi, on 05/12/2008, -2/+3"it doesn't make them stupid people"
No, no, you're right. It makes them dangerously delusional.

- MacBigot, on 05/12/2008, -2/+4I wonder if those "Evangelicals" who support Obama really affirm all the core beliefs that define that group?

Even i will digg a fox news article if its a real article and not a biased puff piece.

- TubeDigger, on 05/12/2008, -3/+3kids today... Jesus would toatly want 100 years of war GO MCAIN /sarcasm
- Regbooker, on 05/12/2008, -3/+3The premise of this article will create a quantum singularity and swallow Digg with it in the process. After all, Digg's community hate for religions and hate for the GOP are like equal poles. They're not suppose to contradict themselves (at least in Digg's universe own physics)
- jefuchs, on 05/12/2008, -1/+6Crap! I left the GOP because of those religious asshats. Now they've found me again.
- NonLeftistDiggr, on 05/12/2008, -0/+5What? That's how republicans got to where they are now, religious constituents ignored poor performance and a total void of conservative fiscal idealogy in favor of any candidate that touted the pro-religious social crap like gay marriage, creationism, abortion, etc.
- whataboutdave, on 05/12/2008, -1/+2Not entirely accurate to say that they are abandoning the GOP just yet. They won't be as active as they were for Bush, but many evangelicals still lean heavily to the right socially. This is a problem of candidates, not manifesto.
- SqueakyWheel, on 05/12/2008, -1/+2Muslims are against abortion and dogs
- ErikHarrison, on 05/12/2008, -0/+3Obama is not actually for or against abortion... He thinks that it is not the goverment's business.
- cerejota, on 05/13/2008, -0/+1Obama is not muslim, please dont feed the troll...

- jssdamon, on 05/12/2008, -0/+1I have never understood how a conservative party that champions "life" can be ready to shed blood overseas so quickly.... I guess it is only USA lives that are holy. I have also always had trouble aligning the words of the Bible (rich and poor have this in common - the Lord God mad them all - and much more) with the Republican stance that seems anti-urban, and anti-civil rights. MLK said the three enemies of his "beloved community" were racism, materialism, and individualism. As far as I can tell, they run rampant in both parties. Go Jesus. (and Go Obama!) - a baptist pastor's wife
- Calann, on 05/12/2008, -0/+2Jesus preached that you should love your enemy and to not seek vengeance. If Jesus were alive today, Republicans would hate him and say that he lacks patriotism and is weakening the county. They would no doubt also accuse him of being a communist and condemn him for associating with bums and prostitutes.
