Why My 94 Year Old Mother Thinks that McCain Sucks
huffingtonpost.com — My feisty 94 year old mother has no patience for John McCain. "He's too old," she says bluntly, and "his ideas are out to lunch." But her opposition to McCain isn't really based on his politics. She just thinks his candidacy is an open insult to her intelligence and the intelligence of every American voter.

I miswrote, let me clarify (hey, that sounds like something Obama would say)
"Why I think you are whoring out your dead, was 94 till a couple of days ago, mother."
If this guy doesn't want to respect her memory... if he wants, passive-aggressively, to score a few points on Huff Po with her views and her death, then neither will I respect her memory. - SimonTB, on 07/09/2008, -0/+2Dallas Rough Touch Football Association?
- zombies187, on 07/11/2008, -0/+1Are you anti-huffingtonpost guys aware that stories make it to the front page based at least partly on how many comments it gets? How many posts are hear just to complain about huff? Its YOU putting this up here!

- rrc7cz, on 07/09/2008, -1/+2Why settle for the lesser of two evils? Vote for somebody you feel good about, even if they can't win. Your conscience will be clear, and you'll play a small role in breaking this two party *****.
- Psi57, on 07/09/2008, -0/+2Yeah, go vote for Nader! That totally turned out great in 2000!
- SimonTB, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1Obama is the lesser of two evils.
- elnerdo, on 07/09/2008, -6/+6All big name politicians are corrupt manipulators. Obama and McCain both suck. But you don't NEED to vote for the "lesser of two evils" there are other candidates, and you can write in a vote. The only reason that people believe that they need to vote for one of the two mainstream candidates is BECAUSE people believe that they need to vote for one of the two mainstream candidates. Someone else can win, maybe not in this election, but maybe in a few years. The thing is, we need to start breaking the bonds of this two-party system NOW. Stop voting for the Democratic and Republican political machines!
- riseabove, on 07/09/2008, -1/+9yeah, we sure did a great job in 2000, didnt we

Why settle for the lesser evil? - Rudegar, on 07/09/2008, -1/+0the voting system in usa means that the only thing the other candicates can hope for is getting enough votes to run next time
- schuman1969, on 07/09/2008, -2/+1Here! Here! I NEVER vote for the Republican OR Democrat. THAT IS the PROBLEM! If we all STOPPED voting for the 2 party system, things could start to change. STOP VOTING FOR THE TOP 2!!!
- dirkniblick, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1The problem with that is that you have to get quite a few people x10^6 to do the same thing. I don't see that happening any time soon. Do you?
- elnerdo, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1It'll NEVER happen with that attitude, dirkniblick.
The reason that it can't happen is ONLY because nobody thinks that it can happen. - oninbonin, on 07/09/2008, -0/+0I'm voting for Scooby-Doo.

- ender7074, on 07/09/2008, -3/+0So you do agree that the HuffPo is a valid source of news. How can people ***** all over FOX and then go posting Huffington crap as gospel.- josereyes0, on 07/09/2008, -5/+11It's not any different really, but still it is a good story and interesting perspective on an old american from another old american.

- TheWorm, on 07/10/2008, -0/+2That's not the point..it's still propaganda..We just choose to ignore it because it's liberal propaganda and we tend to side with liberals.
- zip000, on 07/09/2008, -7/+10Huffington post is a left wing blog - that's what it says it is, and that's what it is.
Fox News claims to be fair and balanced news, in fact it is a far right wing idiocracy that makes everyone that watches it less informed and more dumb.- ender7074, on 07/09/2008, -3/+5You people never ceace to amaze me. Posting a left wing hyperliberal blog as news is insulting. Nothing on Fox even comes close to being as bias as HuffPo.
- chukd, on 07/09/2008, -1/+6What? You mean Huffington Post isn't a serious news outlet. Wow, I am shocked!

On that note, doesn't anybody think it's odd that the day after she died he decided to write an article about her political opinions rather than mourn her death?- Monk22, on 07/09/2008, -1/+1its that classy left wing style
- siszam, on 07/10/2008, -2/+1@Monk22
Speaking of "classy", how about your Republicans bashing the mothers of dead troops? That's really classy isn't it? The more righteous a person is the more riled up you demonic, fake Christians hate them.

- zip000, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1Agreed, but 94 is pretty damned old.
To me, it seems like anything over 80 - if you're in fairly good health - is bonus. Most people that old have miserable lives, but it sounded like she had a fairly good one.- akula89, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1people that take care of themselves can easily live good lives into their 80's

- zip000, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1Agreed, but 94 is pretty damned old.
- Duositex, on 07/09/2008, -2/+28I would agree with her on that. Specifically because McCain has started talking like Mr. Rogers since his campaign expanded. I can't even stand to hear the man talk. I feel like he's talking to a group of children every time he opens his mouth. "Now boys and girls, I was in a war. Do you know what a war is? Wars are bad. But sometimes Iran starts wars and we need to kill them all. I mean..."
- Andrwmorph, on 07/10/2008, -0/+2He also always has that creepy fake overly-happy smile all the time.

- ender7074, on 07/09/2008, -2/+2Informed Opinions? No, I think not. HuffPo only lists people with extreme liberal adgendas. Thats not an informed opinion. Its an extremely bias one.
- eszymczyk, on 07/09/2008, -1/+3I didn't know this story was about how the Huffington Post sucks?

- kd420, on 07/09/2008, -13/+9Oh come on, if a 94 year old said she was voting for McCain people would just say "that's just because she's old too!!". But now because she's anti-McCain she holds some sort of authority in the matter? McCain sucks, but I don't need to hear it from an old person just to validate my arguments.

- riseabove, on 07/09/2008, -3/+6actually, yes they are!
- jbecker, on 07/10/2008, -1/+1No! Actually, they just two simple words. Obama or McCain will run the country into the ground. Obama more so because of the Democratic-controlled Congress.
- stevetrojanman, on 07/09/2008, -8/+4And Obama would take more of your money while completing the same task...
- SLAM22, on 07/09/2008, -4/+3lol hope and change. i love it, people are so freaking stupid. if mccain was saying that, they would all be like "ohhh no way no way' but just cause obama wears the title democrat they accept it.
learn to think for yourselves, stop acting like your 80 yr old parents who are stuck putting labels on everything. Theres actually qualified candidates in either party that could lead us, but you morons get all hyped up about labels. seriously, grow up.

- zomglolcats, on 07/09/2008, -6/+12Unfortunately, my 67 year old mother believe in the Republican party religiously and will vote for McCain. I don't even talk politics with her because it is an exercise in futility. She believes that FOX News is a good source, and pretty much believes whatever they tell her. Meanwhile, she chides me for believing in stuff I read on the internet, as the internet is unreliable. Go figure.

McCain has ideas?- SLAM22, on 07/09/2008, -2/+2oh man, what a funny one, lemme guess obama is gonna change the world, stop all the wars, and make oil prices go down....your gonna keep living the same life you did, and nothings going to change....it doesnt matter who is the president, its all about congress plus the other nations, you just need someone to point at when things are rough, what a pathetic lowlife of a person is that? Even if u dont agree with Bush, u should still be backing Him and his love for america...
oh wait, obama = change...the only thing thats gonna change is the person in office, trust and believe in that, democrat or republican. get a life.- Hypersapien, on 07/10/2008, -0/+1I don't think that Obama is the greatest thing since sliced bread. He's still way better than McCain, though.
Also, Bush has shown nothing but contempt for the American people, Democracy, and the Rule of Law since for the past 8 years. The only Americans he gives a damn about are the ones that pull down 8 or 9 figures a year.
No one who who has ever said "A dictatorship wouldn't be so bad, so long as I'm the dictator" will ever have my support, my backing, my respect, or anything other than my contempt.

- lhbaker, on 07/09/2008, -2/+3You need some Mexican neighbors.
- themonkman, on 07/09/2008, -1/+3People should know more than one language for several reasons. First and foremost, it increases your earning and employment potential. If you can fluently speak Japanese, Spanish, German, or even Dutch, you open yourself up to being able to do business with far more people in the rest of the world.
Most countries in Europe and throughout the world have dual languages. Also, teaching any second language in schools at an early age is proven to increase the learning potential of a child. The more neurons that you can stimulate in the different portions of your brain that would otherwise remain inactive increases your IQ and cognitive capabilities. I think there is a reason why European and Asian countries tend to exceed the US in certain areas of education, and I wouldn't doubt if knowing a second language contributes to their success.
Thirdly, knowing a second language introduces and educates a person on different world cultures. The problem with America is that we have this narcism about our own culture and xenophobia towards others. It leads to tensions between countries and makes diplomacy increasingly difficult. Knowing German has led me to greatly appreciate my ancestors heritage and prompts me to want to learn about other cultures besides my own. Since Spanish culture is the 2nd most dense in the US, I think it's important that we are able to communicate and appreciate our similarities and differences. This cannot be done without knowing the language. I am currently in my 3rd semester of Spanish class, and it's been great being able to talk with strangers and my friends who speak spanish in their native tongue.- Acglaphotis, on 07/09/2008, -0/+2And, sadly, this narcissistic folks are the ones digging you down -_-. Who would condenm a person recommending a second language as a "***** traitorous punk"?
