1.) Selma Got Me Born - LIAR, your parents felt safe enough to have you in 1961 - Selma had no effect on your birth, as Selma was in 1965.

6.) My Name is African Swahili - LIAR, your name is Arabic and ‘Baraka’ (from which Barack came) means ‘blessed’ in that language. Hussein is also Arabic and so is Obama.

- dfwlinuxguy, on 03/31/2008, -1/+5I guess that everyone has forgotten that "it depend on what the meaning of the word is...is" and the fact that Bill outright sold all our military secrets to China. The Chinese couldn't even get a rocket to fly before we helped them...a communist, oppressive government. The Clinton's are for the same scorched earth win at all costs politics we've been dealing with since Reagan left office. For the first time in my adult life, I'm ready to vote for a Democrat. I'm ready for Obama. I don't agree with him on every issue. I have a HUGE disagreement on how to handle the ILLEGAL immigration issue, but at least with him I won't have to spend the next 9 year of politics as it has been. John McCain all but came out and said he was in favor of a one world government the other day with his statements about an "American Union" in the same fashion as the EU. Lump us all together in smaller and smaller groups until heck boundaries don't matter..we're all a part of this world and should be governed by one group that has our "best interests" at heart. If you think that the Clinton's aren't in the same group...you're kidding yourself. American prosperity, wealth, jobs, security, knowledge are all being undermined in the name of one world government. Obama MAY...I say COULD BE a part of the same crowd, but at least I don't yet know that for sure. He seems to be for unity. I can take the next 9 years of seeing him represent our Country. I can't say the same for Clinton or McCain.

B) My point is about what *should* happen, it is therefore a prescriptive statement not one based on current rights or practices. - Seldon2639, on 03/31/2008, -0/+3There's something particularly annoying about creating straw-man arguments for your opponents positions, and then (surprise) being able to prove them wrong. It takes more than a little equivocation to say "well, if we changed the electoral college to proportional representation (which it isn't, nor has ever been), Obama's still winning in the electoral college." It's subtle, and it's tricky, but it's there. Obama supporters have a strong enough argument without prevarication.
The issue is that either way we're shooting ourselves in the foot. About one-in-six Obama supporters have said they would not vote for Hillary, and about the same proportion of Hillary supporters said the opposite. I think this will go a lot easier if both sides (and I include Obama supporters who are "nudge, nudge, wink, wink not part of the campaign") stop beating each other up. The Huffington Post needs to lay off the "Hillary doesn't understand reality" crap, and the papers supporting Hillary need to lay off the crap about Rev. Wright.
Now's when I get dugg down because someone's going to claim the Huffington Post is non-biased, and just reporting on what's really happening. I don't mind. But before you do, I'd only ask that you really think for a second about whether the news you're reading, about Obama having descended from on high, and Hillary is a selfish witch, is anything more than confirmation bias, and an echo-chamber. Is it unbiased because it's fair, or unbiased because you agree with it?- Nichoman, on 04/01/2008, -0/+1I wouldn't necessarily call these strawman arguments because they are the valid points that explain why Hillary is still in the race. But what this, and countless other editorials are saying is that Hillary should give up because it's hurting the party. I disagree with that sentiment and think that she can run her campaign however she's sees fit. And I don't support Hillary, if that gives any additional weight to my two cents. This is also the same position that Obama has taken as well.
But this editorial is very informative in that it puts the facts and figures up on display to basically say that Hillary has nearly impossible odds to overcome to get the nomination at this point.
BTW: Don't say things like "when I get dugg down" because we heathens will do that regardless of what you say. (I dugg you up though.)

- joeanon, on 04/01/2008, -1/+1This guy is just babbling.
The reason Hilary is in the race is because she has the support of millions of voters and she is still pulling in contribution money.
I see no reason for her to drop out yet. It would be half asses to go this far and not stick in the race. You never know what can happen and Hilary, unlike most Americans, is smart enough to know that.
Those talking about good old fashion competition hurting the race are just undereducated or praying that dem voters magically convert to republican because they have two candidate of presidential potential vs the GOP having McCain.
Face it, in debate or in the issues McCain gets owned by high school kids. Hilary or Obama would have no problem making him look like a corrupt flip flopping idiot.
Hilary is in the race because she is one of the top most popular democrats and your slander is ONLY HELPING keep her in the press.
There is no magic force keeping her in the race nor does she has great media powers or elite wealthy backing her up. She simply has more than enough 'fans' to make her a Presidential candidate, likely any year she decides to run.
Having served in the 90s, which marked the longest period of economic expansion in US history, Hilary has significant stats in her favor, especially when it comes to the economy.
Instead of slandering, trying reading. The worst the economy gets the more of an edge she has. However, likely too little too late. Had she come out more aggressively with a more transparent platform and stronger solutions I think she would still be up in the polls.
However Obama's platform of change and yes we can sound byte has captures people's imaginations.
On the issues and votes they are fairly identical. The bickering we see is really the FEW differences these two candidate have.
Clearly though, Bill Clinton is the real catalyst and speaker of the Clinton's. In comparison if you ran Michelle Obama against Hilary she would not stand a chance. Bill is a better speaker and seemingly more able to think on his feet than Hilary .
Overall Bill is certainly far more of an asset than Michelle Obama.
Obama voted for the war on terror by voting YES for the Patriot Act twice. As a constitutional
law expert you think he would have known better.
He calls Hilary out for her vote in Iraq and what on banking reform and a few others at most (the few votes they differ on). YET nobody is calling out Obama for the Patriot Act because all but two democrats voted no.
Still, likely the public will call him out on that. He says he doesn't support torture and spying.... BUT he signed the Patriot Act twice.....
so... I cal ***** on that one.
That along with touring the south with an anti-gay icon doesn't REALLY put Obama as the better man in this election. This is also the FIRST elected he hasn't taken PAC money.
I think all in all, Hilary is taking it very easy on Obama and vice versa.
The dems are just angry and want a quick victory without complications, but asking a candidate to just give up... so the dems can get pounded on my the GOP owned media is just dumb.
It shows how stupid most American's are and how little they respect the competitive system of politics that got them here.
You don't give up after this far and this close in the vote. Why...
Because Obama could be humiliated or choke on a pretzel or something. He could get in an accident or even be attacked by nutball racist Jesus freaks.
With MANY month left to go and Hilary still pulling in the contributions.... Why drop out ?
If Obama can't win because of a little competition, then he isn't the right candidate, plain and simple. Obama has offered us little in solution and much in promises. This is the SAME EXACT formula for every candidacy.
I think while Hilary and Obama rule the scene McCain is NOBODY, he can't even buy effective press time.
All this, it's hurting the race is just GOP wishful thinking spilling over into democrat fears of another GWB.
But think about it people, the reason we are here today pushing Obama and Hilary is ALL thanks to GWB. Great failures tend to usher in change and what could be a greater failure than GWB.
McCain ? .,, maybe
Now, while another 4 year of idiot President may sound bad... think about the harm he would further do to the GOP.
If the people are this pro democratic after 8 years of Bush... another 4 years of failure will only make people that much more liberal.
You want to make people embrace their Constitutional rights... just keep taking them away in the name of patriotism and we'll see how that plays out for the GOP.
This is a win win situation for the dems. Backing out now while McCain can't even get press seems ... pussyified.
The last thing the dems need to do is go back to their strategy of compromise. Right now, they have the power, they have them media and they have the people.
This is also a trick. By dividing dem supporters into two major groups like this, the GOP cannot accurately calculated national support. When polls come up everyone votes for their candidate and many times they feel bitterness toward the opposing democrat.
However, once the primary is over this theory that dems will convert to republicans and vote for NONE other than McCain out of spite for not getting their candidate is just dumb.
People may say that, but people say a lot of things when they don't get their way. In reality, that's a VERY far fetched theory.
More like this current situation is non traditional enough to hide what could be a democratic landslide divided by two candidates.
The national polls really aren't useful until a month or so before the actual election. Many people still know very little about Obama or McCain... or even Hilary for that matter.
Overall though Hilary is the most well known person there and she is probably the safer bet since nobody knows how many racists their really are in America. Too late now though, it's likely Obama or McCain.
Still why suggest Hilary be a quitter in a race so close. Because why ?? because McCain is such a tough opponent.
cmon
If you can't beat McCain on your own strength you don't deserve to win... simple and fair. - Iconoclast25, on 04/01/2008, -0/+2The only White House job for which either remaining democrat candidate is qualified would be scrubbing the trash cans and toilets.
