These folks could spoil the party for McCain

startribune.com — Sen. John McCain is champing at the bit to run against Sen. Barack Obama in the fall. But the presumptive GOP nominee should also worry about his own right flank. Bob Barr entered the presidential race this month as a Libertarian, and while the former Republican congressman from Georgia isn't going to become president, his run is no joke.

  • SheilaNoya, on 05/25/2008, -1/+2Sounds like serious trouble is brewing for McCain. Bob Barr can probably get a lot of evangelicals to vote for him, since they don't trust McCain. Add up all of the people who still insist they are going to write in Ron Paul's name, and McCain has just lost a sizeable chunk of conservative voters.

    Bob Barr will also be in the media, bashing McCain and trying to convince conservatives and the religious right that McCain is a NeoCon fraud who doesn't deserve their votes.

    I just wonder if Ron Paul supporters will now speak out against both Bob Barr AND McCain, or if they'll just swing over to Bob Barr because his name will actually be on the ballot in most states. This is going to be interesting to watch unfold.
