TPMtv: Dazed and Confused watch!
youtube.com — Your Daily Politics Video Blog: To us, the presidential race reached a turning point last week when John McCain opted for a campaign of denigration employing racial stereotypes, sexualized talking points for surrogates (Obama as "Internet date") and copious ridicule. It's made the curve that much of the media still uses to grade McCain's more o...

- Cordier, on 08/07/2008, -1/+20BO needs no clever commercials with this JMC atomic bomb compilation. I had to look away from the monitor several times it was so incredibly painful to watch. I think the ghost of the R Reagan (with Alzheimer's) has jumped inside McCain's body. God help the world if this guy is allowed to steal the election.
- More4, on 08/07/2008, -0/+17thanks to Talking Points Memo

- fiveness, on 08/08/2008, -0/+16This is a must see. I remember reading about a lot of these earlier in the campaigns, but seeing them all at once is jarring. This really could be another Bush style leadership. He's being handled every which way. He has you wondering who's really pulling the levers. I'd still say he once was a maverick, of sorts, but that strain has been completely gobbled up by his (Bush 2004) campaign staff. I'm tired of the McCain campaign's political gimmicks. How are we supposed to get citizens to take civics seriously when the people at the top are engaged in childish schoolyard taunts and wild distortions of the opposition's argument. This is pretty damn serious McCain. Glad you're having a laugh. I'm damn depressed.
- LOVE10, on 08/08/2008, -0/+10This is PATHETIC!
The thought of this man even having the opportunity of becoming president scares me!
With all the issues that Americans are dealing with, McCain's best response is PARIS.
SERIOUSLY! - clsslc, on 08/08/2008, -0/+11Gosh, McCain is old.
- Conspiracy20, on 08/09/2008, -1/+8He said he's older than dirt. He should be under it.
- Unitftbll, on 08/31/2008, -0/+3HAHA Now that is funny!! LOL
- PicMess, on 08/21/2008, -0/+9If he can't run a campaign well, how could he run the U.S. ??
- tcbishop12, on 08/31/2008, -0/+10John McCain at age 72 is hoping to become the oldest candidate ever elected to a first term in the White House. Putting this in perspective, McCain's quest to win the presidency comes at an age when he would be too old to be a commercial airline pilot or even a judge in some states.
Earlier this year, Jack F. Kemp, a McCain supporter who was the party’s vice presidential nominee in 1996, when the presidential nominee, Bob Dole, was older than Mr. McCain, said Mr. McCain’s choice of a running mate held special significance.
“I think his nominee, his choice for vice president, is going to be very important for party regulars, and also in terms of his or her capability someday to succeed as president,” Mr. Kemp said.
Scholars of the vice presidency said that the age of Mr. McCain’s running mate would probably be just one factor in the selection process. The others would be ideology — some selections could be seen as rallying the conservative base, while others would be seen as reaching out to independent voters — and geography, either to appeal to a region or to try to nail down a state. But several said in interviews that competence would most likely trump the others.
“I think nowadays that any presidential candidate must pick somebody who is a plausible president,” said Joel K. Goldstein, a professor of law at St. Louis University who studies the vice presidency. “I think you can’t put a bozo or a mediocrity on the ticket just because he is the most popular official in a state with 20-plus electoral votes.”
He continued, “Senator McCain’s age and the higher possibility that he may die while in office obviously make it vital that he select a running mate who is perceived as presidential"
Well -- all that good advice from McCain's best friends and closest advisers sure went right out the window, didn't it? - Arishia, on 08/31/2008, -0/+6Most disturbing to me over the last few days is a) a bimbo is vp nominee and b) the people in this country are, humm, how do I say this politely, stupid? I'm serious. My neighbor thinks Miss Congeniality is perfect. He is a successful blue collar middle class guy. Yet, he couldn't connect thre dots if they were all in a line, and he thinks with his emotions. So, he's about as easy to manipulate as play dough. He has this group of buddies and they have bonded around this "liberterian" idealism. I told him that Palin was the pick, and he said, perfect. Pressed with a short list of facts, he only replied, "well, she sold the jet", and grinned. So, tribalism is alive and well under the veneer of democracy I think. They (yes, the conspiratorial they) are counting on it.
