Stephen Colbert for President?
indecision2008.com — Stephen Colbert just announced that he's officially considering whether he will announce that he's running for President of the United States The Daily Show. No joke! He said he might be trying for the ticket in his home state of South Carolina at the very least as both a Republican and a Democrat!

- deadnewton, on 10/18/2007, -64/+6iam watching it now... he is IN....it would be fun...we used to do this kinda mock stuff in school...lets see..
- airwalkery2k, on 10/18/2007, -35/+16Fun? Mock Stuff? Is that what Obama and Clinton call it these days?
This is tough work. Maybe you should try being a politician sometime. I'm sure Colbert has to deal with people like you all the time. Not taking him seriously just because he's on a late-night comedy show. You should feel ashamed.- dinostabOMG, on 10/19/2007, -1/+31(psst- in high schools, there are often "mock" events, which means that the students simulate running for office, putting on a trial, the UN General Assembly, etc. It doesn't mean that they're mocking the event.)
- Shawn4168, on 10/19/2007, -1/+29Last time I checked, Colbert doesn't take politics seriously either.
- raynar, on 10/29/2007, -5/+13I cant wait to see all the ***** who think that he really will run. its a joke.
- peligro18, on 10/17/2007, -5/+1i really hope is true!...
- TheTaoOfBill, on 10/18/2007, -28/+1I think liberals should be concerned that this will take away votes from the democrats considering his audience is mostly people who lean to the left..
Though I can't see anyone who was actually going to vote throwing their vote away on a joke candidate.- crichton101, on 10/18/2007, -2/+9Well, considering the Republicans lost the Congress to the Dems in the last election, I don't think the Dems are the only ones who have to fear being 2nd fiddle to a comedian.
I think the people are pretty sick and tired of both sets of jackasses that they would vote for anyone else. Besides, Reagan was an actor best known for working with a monkey.- TheTaoOfBill, on 10/18/2007, -12/+4Please don't take this seriously...it's a joke...I agree both parties need to be voted out. Nothing would make me happier to see that. But a comedian with no real political experience other than making fun of politics would not make a good president. Which is why I say anyone seriously into politics would never throw their vote away like this.
- LibrarianEtarip, on 10/18/2007, -2/+15all these candidates with tons of political experience are doing an excellent job aren't they?
- therightclique, on 10/20/2007, -0/+2you are such a ***** ***** for so many different reasons.
- ToadLeg, on 10/17/2007, -3/+2TheTaoOfBill, each political party only has one candidate for the election!
- TheTaoOfBill, on 10/18/2007, -12/+4Please don't take this seriously...it's a joke...I agree both parties need to be voted out. Nothing would make me happier to see that. But a comedian with no real political experience other than making fun of politics would not make a good president. Which is why I say anyone seriously into politics would never throw their vote away like this.
- ToadLeg, on 10/17/2007, -7/+1You don't know how the presidential election works do you? There is one Democrat, one Republican, one of any other party, and a whole bunch of independents. Nader "stole" Democrat votes by running as a "Green Party" candidate. Colbert is running as a Democrat and a Republican, so if he wins the support of one of those parties (both?) then he will replace Clinton, Obama, Thompson, Giuliani, or whoever else would have the support of the party. What you are saying is the equivalent of "Obama is taking away votes from Clinton".
- TheTaoOfBill, on 10/17/2007, -0/+1He's taking away votes not by running but by running as a joke candidate.
- Drogoganor, on 10/21/2007, -9/+12All the candidates are a joke already. Except for maybe Ron Paul and/or Obama.
- GawtMilk, on 10/17/2007, -2/+7Gravel? Kunicich? Ron Paul is pretty good despite the fact that he's got some zany ideas [FCC, for ***** sake? We need that!].
There are lots of great people out their who may happen to fit your ideological preferences. It just so happens that 70% of the rest of the country want people like Guiliana or Clinton to win, so the major television networks and newspapers cover them the most.- macweirdo42, on 10/17/2007, -2/+1I don't want someone who fits my ideological preferences, I want someone who is honest and who will actually work with the nation's best interests in mind. I can't really say that ANY of the current candidates can promise that, as they are politicians and thus have already proved that the only thing they can do well is lie.
- chrismgtis, on 10/17/2007, -1/+2They are all a joke.
- PTCHFRKR, on 10/20/2007, -4/+3Ron Paul is an overly libertarian imbecile; he opposes separation of church and state and abortion rights.
- GawtMilk, on 10/17/2007, -2/+7Gravel? Kunicich? Ron Paul is pretty good despite the fact that he's got some zany ideas [FCC, for ***** sake? We need that!].
- dinostabOMG, on 10/17/2007, -0/+3Isn't there a whole joke party in Canada that routinely does pretty well in elections? Maybe I can get a Canadian to come out the woodwork and explain this to us.
- CroqueMitaine, on 10/17/2007, -0/+6I cant speak for the rest of Canada but in Quebec we had the Rhinoceros party. It was a joke party founded by a comedian to ridicule the electoral promises some politicians make. The party said that if elected they would pass a law that would ensure every house had orange juice on tap and that the Louis-Hypolite Lafontaine Tunnel (A tunnel linking Montreal to its south shore, its pretty big) be transformed as a giant car wash.
- CraigCarlyle, on 10/18/2007, -3/+2We do have a joke party: The NDP.
- crichton101, on 10/18/2007, -2/+9Well, considering the Republicans lost the Congress to the Dems in the last election, I don't think the Dems are the only ones who have to fear being 2nd fiddle to a comedian.
- airwalkery2k, on 10/18/2007, -35/+16Fun? Mock Stuff? Is that what Obama and Clinton call it these days?
- kevxross, on 10/21/2007, -3/+221Well he just announced on his show (since he was waiting to do it on a more prestigious show) that he's going for it. Only in SC though. This will be fun to follow.
- benjorino, on 10/18/2007, -21/+3If anyone's interested, here's a video link to him announcing it on his show.

- BestJaxx, on 10/17/2007, -0/+2U sure?
- silveravnt, on 10/17/2007, -8/+3What does that mean, "only in SC (South Carolina)"? Is he not really running for US President?
- drakenlot, on 10/17/2007, -10/+4He's considering running for president of South Carolina
- nathew, on 10/17/2007, -1/+14it means he's only planning to run in the primaries in south carolina, rather than in all states where primaries/caucuses are held to decide the candidate for each party.
- ahoyhoy, on 10/18/2007, -0/+16He's running in the Primaries ONLY in South Carolina, stating that he hopes everyone else drops out based on how well he does there.
- BestJaxx, on 10/18/2007, -10/+1I wish he actually ran for president, in all states. I wouldn't want him to run the country, but he would probably leave office if he actually got elected. It would really show how ***** up this country is.
- tjordan83, on 10/22/2007, -0/+32I would love to see him in some presidential debates.

- benjorino, on 10/18/2007, -21/+3If anyone's interested, here's a video link to him announcing it on his show.
- spancho, on 10/21/2007, -9/+127His run for president is extremely interesting. Because he is the first of his kind, and because he knows exactly what he's doing, Mr.Colbert has been given a unique position. He is going to make a big slash. . . .
I'll vote for him!- CobolNoFun, on 11/02/2007, -11/+29first of his kind? Ronald Reagan was pretty similar
- omeomi, on 10/21/2007, -5/+3Not really. Ronald Reagan ran as himself. Colbert is running as his character persona. Not that it isn't obvious from the show, but he's said publicly that his stage persona is intentionally over-the-top. It makes sense for his character to announce a run for president. It doesn't really mean he himself is considering a run for president.
- notque, on 10/17/2007, -1/+2whooooosh.
- bsolidgold, on 10/17/2007, -0/+1You need to get out more.
- shupy, on 10/20/2007, -0/+1Pat Paulson ran for president for years. It was great, because he made fun of issues, and it made people more aware of where the issues really were. If we'd had someone poking more fun at Bush, chances he'd have never made it to the white house.
- ejde, on 11/02/2007, -0/+1Are you kidding me? Colbert has the same profession that Reagan had before either became President. That's pretty much where the similarities end, politically speaking at least. This is what sucks about skin-deep America today.
- maliath, on 10/21/2007, -3/+18Pat Paulsen did something similar. He was also a comedian. Colbert could get way more votes though.
- floatingpoints, on 10/21/2007, -2/+28Who?
- Balcifer, on 10/18/2007, -2/+29Exactly.
- Dylson, on 10/18/2007, -5/+2No.
- senatorpjt, on 10/17/2007, -0/+2Unless you remember the Smothers Brothers, you wouldn't remember Pat Paulsen either. He was probably before your time. (I'm old.)
- floatingpoints, on 10/21/2007, -2/+28Who?
- EndersGame, on 10/17/2007, -15/+4You know that its all satire right? Whens the last time anybody could take Stephen Colbert seriously, especially on his show....?
- Fragowell, on 10/21/2007, -3/+27I think the people who like the idea of him running and would vote for him are the ones that get that it's satire.
- ravage86, on 10/17/2007, -2/+5Yes, he praises Bush on his show while he clearly doesn't like Bush. That's the satire. It's clear from watching his show where he stands on many issues.
- Drogoganor, on 10/18/2007, -12/+55"He is going to make a big slash."
In Australia, "taking a slash" means doing a *****. I laughed at your unintentional humour!- KlayBorg, on 10/17/2007, -4/+9I live in brissie and a thought it meant taking a piss. Meh.
- Ramble, on 10/17/2007, -3/+20The the UK taking a slash means having a piss.
- CaptainZipTie, on 10/17/2007, -0/+5Slash = Piss
Here in South Aussie as well. - mesmeriffic, on 10/18/2007, -0/+19In America we don't have pisses, we TAKE THEM!
- fkr3, on 10/18/2007, -3/+7Where do you take them, and what do you hope to achieve by taking them somewhere?
- CaptainZipTie, on 10/17/2007, -0/+5Slash = Piss
- chrismgtis, on 10/18/2007, -1/+16That makes absolutely no sense. You odd foreigners.
- floatingpoints, on 10/17/2007, -2/+11"In Australia, "taking a slash" means doing a *****."
...no it doesn't. - octophobic, on 10/17/2007, -3/+1I thought it was about slash fiction.
- leerayIG88, on 10/18/2007, -1/+17In America, taking a slash means slicing things.
- therightclique, on 10/17/2007, -0/+6no, it has something to do with guns n roses.
- sgtbutterscotch, on 10/18/2007, -2/+9In America, "doing a *****" is different than "*****."
- Swanston, on 10/17/2007, -2/+9Yes his run for President is extremely interesting [/sarcasm]... He does know exactly what he's doing, and that's doing this for his show, he himself doesn't expect to come close to being president. I want Colbert to be president just as much as anyone here and I'm not even from the states, but even I can see that he is doing this for the show. Him choosing to run in South Carolina proves this, if he decided to run nationally, or at least in a blue state, he'd have some chance, but he's going to get demolished in South Carolina.
- Speed, on 10/17/2007, -0/+3He's probably choosing SC since that's his home state. That alone could get him a win.
- angrytito, on 10/17/2007, -1/+4That's exactly why he chose South Carolina. He's running as a "favorite son". I dunno if he'll win, but SC is a pivotal primary state and it'll be interesting to see if he shakes things up a bit. Who knows who he might pull votes away from...
- Speed, on 10/17/2007, -0/+3He's probably choosing SC since that's his home state. That alone could get him a win.
- fuzzynyanko, on 10/17/2007, -0/+11I'm kinda jealous of people in South Carolina now. Does this mean he can go to the South Carolina debates?
- BestJaxx, on 10/18/2007, -0/+3Actually yes.
- BestJaxx, on 10/18/2007, -1/+3Robin Williams?

- FutureGuy, on 10/17/2007, -0/+3He is brilliant, ohh it would be fun to watch him debate. I wish he does run, US needs someone with brains and no baggage.
- sak2109, on 10/18/2007, -0/+1he will def bring depression down. support him at http://www.messagewalls.com/colbertforprez
- shupy, on 10/20/2007, -0/+1The great thing is that it will get people talking about politics. If people were more aware of what was going on 8 years ago, we'd all be better off today.
- CobolNoFun, on 11/02/2007, -11/+29first of his kind? Ronald Reagan was pretty similar

- Pssdoff, on 10/20/2007, -0/+11Things I would vote for before Romney / Giuliani / McCain / Thompson / Clinton / Obama / Richardson / Huckabee / Edwards :
Ron Paul, Steven Colbert, Mike Gravel, Steven Colbert, Dennis Kucinich, Jon Stewart, A banana, Steve Irwin, an inanimate Carbon Rod, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, a turd sandwich, Satan, Michael Jackson.- badave, on 10/18/2007, -3/+1You said Steven Colbert twice.

- lickmyback, on 10/18/2007, -4/+1Yep well done, vote for Colbert at the expense of Ron Paul and ensure that neither man becomes president. This guy will be the Ralph Nader of 2008. "LOL ITZ THAT FUNNI MAN FROM TV!!1"... nice display of allegiance, you trend whores are so easily swayed.
- Gryffydd, on 10/18/2007, -0/+3grow a sense of humor.
- JB449, on 10/18/2007, -0/+1It always disappoints me to see how easily change their minds about things like things. The presidency should not be a popularity contest. I'd vote for him! I'd vote for him! come on! Are you people just kidding? This is why we ended up with the governator over here in California. Just because almost anybody would make a better president that the current one, doesn't mean you should vote for just anyone. I'm not saying Colbert wouldn't make a good president, but how much do people really know about him? Just because he is famous and funny doesn't make him qualified to be the president. Seeing a persons favorite presidential candidate change so easily just disappointed me. Sorry about the rant, but I am seriously worried about the future of my country.
- Brian48216, on 10/18/2007, -1/+1I never really changed my mind. I just always thought that Ron Paul, while a nice guy who speaks his mind, would be a disaster for the United States if he decides to absolve the IRS, Dept of Education, withdraw from the UN, WTO, NAFTA, within 4 years.
No. No matter what you say. It would not end well.

- roystgnr, on 10/20/2007, -1/+20You're just saying that because you don't know about the robot and cyborg candidates of 2044 yet. The Robot Party has pledged not to kill all humans, but only time will tell whether they can deliver on their promises.
- FunkyWitDaSysTm, on 10/20/2007, -0/+2unfortunately, when John Quincy Adding Machine wins, he may not be able to live up to his promise.

- chatzimcfee, on 10/17/2007, -4/+0Why does everyone always say that? you have absolutely no idea what the future holds.
- senatorpjt, on 10/17/2007, -0/+2It's a combination of the primaries being pushed earlier, the political campaigning starting two years before the election, and most of all the fact that there no incumbent president or vice president running.
- whatthefu, on 10/17/2007, -34/+5Hell yes I want a satirical comedian to be president I SEE NOTHING THAT COULD GO WRONG WITH THIS! Right, guys? Right?
- erikerikerik, on 10/17/2007, -4/+19er.. and a man that couldn't keep 1 business running is?
- CobolNoFun, on 10/17/2007, -1/+1seems pretty good at his job to me. by no means should some one with the qualifications of Colbert be president.... but um hes still far better then the other candidates.

- senatorpjt, on 10/17/2007, -0/+1Better than an ex-president's wife.

- xike, on 10/20/2007, -0/+12That was such a terrible movie. It's like they took the daily show and Jon Stewart, and subtracted every ounce of funniness. I didn't chuckle at a single one of the "jokes".
- norbiu, on 10/17/2007, -0/+9Man of the Year was more drama than comedy. The trailer was 100% comedy. I was pretty disappointed myself, but I thought it was a pretty good movie.
- badave, on 10/17/2007, -0/+1I agree, that fake news show with Robin Williams really, really sucked. It was more like the Conan monologue at the beginning of his show except it wasn't funny.
- andrewcool, on 10/17/2007, -2/+8Any video links?
- Lenny, on 10/17/2007, -17/+3Sure it'd be funny to see him run, and possible to vote for him, but who would actually want him as a president?

- vanzee, on 10/17/2007, -3/+16Me
- cambrown99, on 10/17/2007, -2/+17I would. I actually believe he could do the job.
- theholyraptor, on 04/07/2008, -0/+7I think he could not only do the job, but redefine the roll of President compared to the way it's been run the last dozen years (and I don't mean redefine it by establishing all sorts of ridiculous executive branch powers)
- dasdef, on 10/17/2007, -0/+7me too.
- Lewie, on 10/17/2007, -0/+6I do
- ronaldinho, on 10/17/2007, -0/+1Me. I literally hollered at his announcement last night
- RobotBuddha, on 10/17/2007, -0/+1Me. It's not like we've never had an actor as president before. And I actually think he has potential to do a good job at it. I'd be really surprised if many of the other candidates were nearly as aware of the issues as he is.
- yomamaisfat, on 10/26/2007, -6/+178If only we could vote for president on the internet.

- grapesofbaath, on 10/18/2007, -11/+73President Ron Paul, Vice President Cheerleader from Heroes?
- grapesofbaath, on 10/20/2007, -3/+32Well, at the very least he's joking about running in both the Republican and Democratic primaries, because you can't do both. I seriously doubt he's going to do it. It would be great if he did join just the Republican ticket, I'm sure he'd be able to get enough signatures to get on the ballot.

- bjs3171, on 10/17/2007, -6/+1nah. i love Jon Stewart, but I get the feeling Colbert is actually smarter. maybe it's just the glasses, but the Report is even more politically oriented than the daily show.
- ronaldinho, on 10/17/2007, -0/+3no, both are politically oriented, but Colbert is more satiring than Stewart (thus making him, I guess, in your words "politically oriented")
I personally would have Colbert as Prez and Stewart as VP

- CFRHoar, on 10/18/2007, -1/+3Hes going to be elected as Stephen Colbert (his character) and then he will seced himself to Stephen Colbert
- SuperMoses, on 10/17/2007, -5/+3He did say he was running for the Republican and Democratic party.. .. but I don't think Colbert himself is a Democrat. He's probably an independent.

- DanJohnHarris, on 10/17/2007, -4/+4Popularity contests are surely the best way to determine the most powerful individual on the planet!
Our world had so much promise. Now, it needs to be saved. Winners of a popularity contest will not have the skills. This is a catch 22. The masses don't like to think about the reality of the globe's approaching doom, and will vote for people who, likewise, ignore them too.
If I could stop time, and wander the planet for the rest of my life, I know hundreds and hundreds of people I would rig up to be slaughtered when Time came back. It would take the rest of my days to find them all and set up the rigs, but the world would be saved.- audaciousgenre, on 10/18/2007, -1/+2you're just jealous you aren't popular

- SuperMoses, on 10/18/2007, -2/+32Dude, the whole world is hoping he's serious.. don't ruin it.
- Fragowell, on 10/17/2007, -0/+12Yes, but his political satire and the reality of his "character" have had a growing tendency to spill over into the real world. He literally has an army of followers whom he can ask to do things like vote in polls (Hungary Bridge naming) or editing wikipedia (don't recall the specific one, probably about bears or something). He can call out major politcal figures on his show and get them to come on. He really does have a staggering amount on political influence, despite being satire. I think he's an incredibly intelligent and humble person (which is what makes the character so funny), and I'm not entirely opposed to him actually running (in whatever capacity).
I really couldn't even guess what his actual intentions are, but I'm interested to see what comes of it.- Sawta, on 10/17/2007, -0/+1For the wiki articles, there was one about African elephants and air being poisonous; I'm sure there are a few others as well.

- f4nt0m4s, on 10/19/2007, -2/+59Colbert for president... John Stewart ripping apart Tony Snow, bless comedy central for playing two shows with balls.
Colbert has my vote!- indiepenguins, on 10/18/2007, -1/+18It still boggles my mind how two of the funniest and intelligent people (colbert and stewart) are on the same network as sarah silverman and carlos mencia.
- snarlyboy, on 10/17/2007, -0/+10how can you put mencia in the same sentence as them? a totally different league. Apparently mencia gets his jokes from the fear factor guy ;-)
- RobotBuddha, on 10/17/2007, -0/+2Comedy central is one of the last networks that on rare occasions actually takes a chance on shows that aren't carbon copies of others. Or, which at least is willing to do so and air them enough to offer up a fair chance. That kind of policy usually gets a combination of shows that are brilliant, and god awfully horrid. Though I actually do quite like the silverman program. Come on, it's got Brian Posehn playing, aside from the sexual orientation, Brian Posehn.
- quaxon, on 10/17/2007, -0/+3If american telly had any balls we would have the chasers on. In australia they play that ***** on ABC, in america it would be banned after the first episode
- PoeticExplosion, on 10/17/2007, -0/+1I don't understand what they're satirizing half the time, but The Chaser is still one of the funniest TV shows ever.

- Vician, on 10/17/2007, -2/+6HE isn't going to do anything unless Congress votes with him, so who gives a *****? - billm317, on 10/18/2007, -5/+8Ron Paul will not ban gay marriage or abortion. On the flip side, he will not support legislation supporting nation-wide gay marriage and abortion. You are 100% wrong here. He simply doesn't believe it's a federal issue.

- p0tent1al, on 10/17/2007, -5/+5the same old nonsensical argument launched in literally every single Ron Paul comment section, that has been debunked, argued, and won by Ron Paul supporters many times over, but sure enough someone always comes and launches the same argument like they are god's gift to digg.
. Also your sentence......"If you do not care about women or gay people, vote away" got a good chuckle out of me. You should try telling that to the 30 or so women in our meetup group that and explain your exact reasoning behind it, I'm betting that would be some quality entertainment. - skipdog172, on 10/17/2007, -2/+2What a joke. - senatorpjt, on 10/20/2007, -1/+1Thanks for pointing it out, I never really thought about it that way. I was for gay marriage and abortion rights, but you made me realized I'm not gay or a woman, so I guess I really don't care.

- Firehed, on 10/18/2007, -7/+3The REPUBLICAN party is too socialist for him? What about HillaryCare?
- baldycraig, on 10/19/2007, -0/+12I don't see him winning in 2008 but 2012 is a very big possibility if he runs both times. He has to be better than Bush, and he already has his speech writers!
- biff198, on 10/18/2007, -0/+13What Bush needs is a speech reader.

- Jeveran, on 10/17/2007, -1/+10He announced on his show -- that he is running for President in, and only in, the primary in South Carolina (his home state) as a Favorite Son candidate.
- professorchaos1, on 10/17/2007, -7/+1This is cool and all, but we don't want another Nader.
SC shouldn't go to the Republicans because the Liberal vote was diverted to a third party candidate.
(Though I'm guessing it won't matter in SC).- venom8599, on 10/17/2007, -0/+1I think the point is the primary, which of course he'd never get past. In SC, you can vote in whichever primary you want, so long as you only vote in one of them. This may take primary votes away from another candidate in the two major parties, but I doubt it'll even matter.
- badwithcomputer, on 10/17/2007, -1/+1voted yes.
- myfilthyheart, on 10/17/2007, -1/+2sure we would loose the colbert report, but imagine when his term is up? the colbert reoort would be back with a vengance!
- frostyfrog, on 10/17/2007, -0/+1That's why I'm torn ... Colbert Report is my most watched show on the telemavision. But I would get to see Colbert on the nightly news. Decisions decisions.
- stox, on 10/17/2007, -0/+6Ha Ha! What will he do if he wins? Which given the current crop doesn't seem that unlikely.
- bscene, on 10/23/2007, -2/+19Have you guys ever heard of Pat Paulsen? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pat_Paulsen
It's absolutely appropriate for a comedian to run considering the current president is a joke!- TheKarmaPolice, on 10/17/2007, -0/+4ronald reagan was an actor, and he's stephen's favorite president! colbert can do this!
- silveravnt, on 10/17/2007, -1/+2Reagan was also an accomplished leader with a history as a Governor. I still haven't seen anything outlining Colbert's views. I think this is great though.
- LastVisibleDog, on 10/17/2007, -1/+1Pat Paulsen came in second to Bill Clinton in the New Hampshire Democratic Primary in 1996...and we all know Bill Clinton was a joke.
Hint: Reagan was the president of the screen actors guild and a two term governor of California. I do think Colbert has far more experience than Hillary Clinton
- BulletsforRingo, on 10/17/2007, -0/+2Yes, lets all vote for the character of a character actor...woooo!
- LBobRife, on 10/17/2007, -0/+0umm...you completely missed the point. Nobody is going to vote for him based on his character he plays on the show.
- hippomille, on 10/17/2007, -1/+1I have heard it mentioned in certain circles that spiro agnew's reanimated corpse lived in his tree house and was quite seminal in colberts decision to run
