reuters.com — Somebody forgot to tell Hillary Clinton the Democratic presidential race is over and Barack Obama won. Obama has captured more state contests, more votes and more of the pledged convention delegates who will help decide which Democrat faces Republican Sen. John McCain in November's presidential election. Watch out for bear in image preview!

Obama's pastor and long-time good friend is not Obama. Paul's old friend and campaign guy, Rockwell, who wrote all that material in the newsletters isn't Paul.

            Unfortunately, sometimes we have a friend who is a racist. The important part is not to let it deter or affect our own opinions about people and that it doesn't make us discriminate against others.

          Tell me ANY politician that has done even something similar. Seriously, taking the responsibility for a bad judgement call of someone who was part of their team? Most of them would rather throw that person out and say "Good luck asshole" or even when they can not find out who did those deeds, wouldn't take responsibility for the misdeeds.

I think pointing out that she lost is more of a statement on how bad she choked, not how tragic and unfair her loss was. Ron Paul's situation comes with a bit more of a bitter taste for these reasons mentioned.

        Actually I'm going with c) You are.

        His "hate speeches" did not go "on and on". In fact it seems pretty clear that someone has gone through his speeches to find incidents when they occurred, because they're able pinpoint the exact dates and Barack was proven not to be there. So really the onus is on you to prove any of the rubbish you posted above, otherwise it's libel.

And an aside: she only won 60% of the vote in Michigan -- 40% of Dem voters in Michigan turned out to vote "Other" -- just to vote for no one and vote against her. I think the Dem. party will come up with some way of representing Michigan though. But people in that state need to take it up with their local party authorities -- they did this to themselves even though they knew what the consequences would be loooong beforehand. And even if they DID count MI and FLA, Obama would still be well ahead. She would still have a difficult time catching up with the 10 contests left and would have to win every one of them by a landslide.

      • qwerter, on 03/28/2008, -2/+5How would we count them, then? This is a really tricky issue for everyone involved. Obama's name wasn't even on the Michigan ballot, so republicans and independents who could have voted for a Democratic nominee, but wanted their votes to count, voted in the Republican primary. For Michigan's vote to really count, we would have to either hold both the Democratic AND Republican primary all over again, or go back in time and stop them from breaking DNC rules.

        Then there's money. The DNC shouldn't have to pay for it, because they told them not to move their primaries in the first place. The states won't pay for it, because they already paid for it once the first time around, and the taxpayers shouldn't have to be penalized for their government's mistake.

        THEN there's the fact that as soon as Hillary started losing, she began talking about how it wasn't fair for Florida and Michigan to not have their votes counted, when she said it didn't matter in the first place. They weren't too keen on the idea when Obama was on a roll in February, either. She positioned herself as "the candidate who wants your vote to count" and painted Obama as the guy who wanted to disenfranchise everyone. Like THAT's not going to sway anyone's vote...

        To me, the whole thing seems screwed. It sucks for the people living there that their votes don't count--but what do we do to fix this? How do we make it fair? Do you have any ideas?

Its in Hillary's best interest to take that as a solution. Because she would never get 100% of the delegates in FL (even if she wins the primary). Also , she would surely loose MI in a new primary.

Big surprise since she CONVENIENTLY was the only major candidate who just so happened to have forgotten to remove herself from our ballot. That's an underhanded move by any measure.

      As far as the whole primary thing goes. I side with my state in the opinion that our primary process, and our electoral process as a whole, is broken. Always voting as late as we do has consistently gotten us ignored by candidates.

      So shame on the Democratic party for denying Michigan and Florida democrats their right to choose which candidate they want in the fall. And shame on Mrs. Clinton for trying to take advantage of Michigan and Florida voters.

      BTW, the Republicans came up with a solution for their primary votes. It doesn't give me a whole lot of faith in the democratic party that they consider punishing millions of people (who had NOTHING to do with the decisions made) over engaging in diplomacy with those within their own party.

    Why is that? They're not that far apart really. Billary took my state of TN (so sad). I mean I'm not a supporter. I don't like her for a variety of reasons and issues she stands for. I don't think any of the three candidates are all that great. None of them will stop us from building permanent bases in Iraq or actually finish this war.

    I just think Obama is more winnable, more capable and I really hope deep down he'll make an impact. McCain is practically tottering around the stage and I've seen him disoriented and had to be led off by his wife. Not to mention his shaky hands holding a piece of paper he was reading from! (See his NH victory speech for both.) And of course not to mention the Keating 5, cheating on his disabled first wife, etc., etc. which will all come out. Racism does exist in the US of course, but not as much as the Rush Limbaughs and others who try to divide us would like to have us believe. And the latest polls show that the Rev. Wright association has not hurt Obama and that people are pretty much over that (except the people who were never on his side to begin with and are looking for stuff to bitch about). Obama is almost the Democratic nominee as we speak -- Hillary has almost no chance other than to steal the election, so I have no idea why mogebier would be saying saying otherwise -- must just dislike Obama.

  • digbird, on 03/28/2008, -2/+6I don't have any brief for Hillary or Obama. Yet I can't help but think that just like Hillary tried to rewrite the rules about Michigan and Florida, Obama's people are trying to rewrite the rules while the game is still going on.

    The fact of the matter is that Democrat party rules specifically provide for the possibility of someone winning not because of pledged delegates but through the super-delegates as well. Also, Democrat Party rules say nothing about the idea that someone has to drop out of the race because he or she is behind in pledged delegates.

    All of this complaining about Hillary makes me think of an old board-game called "Life." In it, the person who amasses the most money wins. Almost always this is done the conventional way, by slowly accumulating cash. But the rules of the game specifically allow someone to spin the wheel and if he or she hits the right number, they win. I have no doubt that a lot of people who have played the game the standard way and have accumulated the most money the conventional were upset when they lost at the last moment.

    But that's the way that the rules were written. Obama, Hillary, and everyone else knew that going into the contest. You can't change the rules in the middle of the game and expect whoever would lose by them (in this case, HIllary) to smile and say, "good game." Instead, you wind up with someone who feels cheated and doesn't ever play again.

    So I don't think it's fair to blame her for trying to win through the rules.

I wonder how many people who are saying the super delegates should follow the votes of the people had ever objected to the existence of super delegates prior to this election?       Hillary should stay in the race because she could end up winning based whether or not the super delegates vote as they were intended versus if the super delegates are pressured into voting differently.
    • ApolloXLII, on 03/28/2008, -1/+1well, the thing is you truly need to understand the game of primary elections and the current state it is in. as we all know, McCain has the GOP all wrapped up and sitting pretty. this is bad for the DNC. while Hillary and Obama are duking it out, McCain is getting ready for the presidential elections. he basically has a head start and he's taking advantage of it completely. by Hillary staying in the race while it looks like she has very little chance of winning, she's dragging the DNC behind. she's basically going about the "i am going to have it or nobody is" route. by her delaying things more and more, it's making the DNC look weaker and weaker and giving McCain plenty of ammunition. also, think of superdelegates like electoral colleges. as we know, superdelegates can pick whichever candidate they want, but they generally represent their district. same with electoral colleges... except electoral colleges are far more important and far less likely to be changed (only happened once in history). so think of it like this... would you like some random person who you dont know who happens to have connections decide that you voted for the wrong candidate? in all honesty, we're not really voting for much more than to mildly persuade our superdelegate to choose the candidate that our majority picked. so indeed, yes... Hillary is slowly letting the air out of the DNC's tires the longer she stays.

Once there is a clear McCain VS DemX contrast, unless the media really does a concerted "noise"/echo chamber smear campaign against DemX, those "swing" voters will likely support the better/saner candidate- and that candidate will not be Bush III. To say that either of them is ahead or that there is a definitive winner is absurd. It will go to the superdelegates, and it's hard to tell which way they will lean, but one thing's for sure... by no means will there be a landslide winner at the end of it all.

Even if the super delegates "go against the will of the people", which is kind of an absurd, inflammatory description. The rules clearly state that super delegates can vote for whomever they please. They're part of the process.

    "If you count the popular vote in FL, and MI Obama is ahead by less than 100k votes. If she wins PA by even a 10% margin(which in mind will be a lot bigger) she will be ahead by 200-300k votes. So will the race then be over for Obama? When she wins WV, KY, and IN will the race then be over. When they finally count FL, and MI will the race then be over for Obama? We can sit here all day and ask ourselves these questions, but the truth is Obama has only won one state that would do us any good in the general election and that is Missouri, and according to the latest polls he down in that state to McCain. My question for everyone then goes; why is everyone so cynical about Hillary Clinton. She clearly is a better leader on the economy, foreign policy, global warming, health care, and the home foreclosure crisis. She is the first candidate that came out with plans for any of these issues facing America. Maybe she's not the most hipe or the coolest in the minds of some of huffingtonposts, msnbc, cnn, or or other liberal media/bloggers/pundits minds, but she is incredibly smart and has been working on behalf of american families for years. She has a PROVEN solid record of getting health care, education, and resources for our veterans since she has been in the senate. She has a PROVEN record of reaching across party lines and working on getting things done in a bi-partisan way. That is what I call uniting, not calling Hillary Clinton a "monster" or "flawed" those are politics as usual the very thing Obama said he doesn't do. This election is way too important for us to think or take a chance on someone who has NO experience and so far what I've seen in the campaign doesn't convince me that he is going to be a uniter, new type of politician, or even has a plan for many of the problems facing us. I hear him talk about the economy, talk about health care, talk about the home foreclosure crisis, but only after Clinton has laid out her plan in detail leading the way for real solutions."

      Barack Obama's timely and unique genius, and his potentially great

      contribution to all beings on this planet, is as the first leader in

      a generation capable of inspiring a significant proportion of the

      American population to truly believe that America has not yet fallen

      in the American heart, so dies the possibility of guiding the world

      towards any manner of future worth living. If we fail, our legacy

      will be inevitable wars for oil, and water, and food as the planet

      responds to our mindless and childish trashing of its surface and

      Atmosphere and endeavors to throw us off as a dog would fleas

      infesting its coat.



      I agree completely that Emotion is essential in any honest,

      authentic, campaign. Moreover, it is essential in any human endeavor.

      The question is WHAT emotions will we entertain? Will we entertain

      fear, loathing, hatred, and depression? Or will we entertain courage,

      and love, and devotion? I would submit that if we feature the former

      we are doomed; however, if we engage the latter we have an

      opportunity to restore our nation, restore our moral capacity to

      lead, and restore the planet.



      I also agree, that the Cultural Relativists wing of the Democratic

      party do us no favors. Though it is a supreme achievement to achieve

      a pluralistic world view, the rejection of hierarchy is an

      unintelligent contradiction. Cultural Relativists, Extreme Post

      Modernists, would have us believe that no world view is better than

      any other. Yet, they argue that a world view that holds no world view

      better than any other is a better world view! There is Hypocrisy in

      everything; however, a better word would be Holarchy as used by Ken

      Wilber (http://www.kenwilber.com) example of the Integral

      Philosophical Movement. As reprehensible, in a greater context, as

      has been the policies and actions arising from George W Bush's world

      view, it is a world view that is unarguably higher than that of a

      Saddam Hussein, or Fidel Castro, etc. Equivalently,

      Hillary Clinton's world view is unarguably superior to GW's; yet, I

      will submit with all of the passion that I am capable of, Barack

      Obama's world view is--yet again-- enhanced/higher/more evolved/more

      transcendent than is Hillary's. And THAT is one of the most important

      reasons why I campaign for him. Why my husband and I believe America

      will be a much improved America with a leader of this magnitude! This is why

      I spend the time writing and speaking to others on behalf of his

      candidacy.
