Ron Paul wins Texas with over 70% of the vote!
people.ronpaul2008.com — Ron Paul won his seat in Texas by a landslide (for his 11th term)... but has 'no support' in the presidential election? Hmmm... I wonder how long it will take before people add up the facts and realize that there's something terribly wrong going on here.

- reed311, on 03/05/2008, -10/+10The only thing "terrible wrong" is your logic. Ron won his district, not the entire state. Incumbents are re-elected to Congress approximately 98% of the time (as of 2004), because of media attention, name recognition and money. Ron Paul was on the Tonight Show twice, the Colbert Report and the Daily Show. How many times did his opponent get national attention? Regardless, Ron did not "win Texas" and this headline is not accurate.
- ssn697, on 03/05/2008, -8/+9You could very easily argue that people re-elected Paul because they are clueless drones, voting for hte name they know (just like the RP'ers say about the public in the general election).
As reed311 points out, incumbents are re-elected at a staggering rate, including incumbents doing a horrible job. It takes a major fraud/bribery scandal to dislodge an incumbent.
Looking at Paul's 5% finish in Texas yesterday, it would be very easy to say he has a name in his District, nothing more (hell, Marion Berry was re-elected as Mayor, even after being filmed smoking crack with a hooker!).
But, of course, those arguments are only for OTHER candidates. Ron Paul (PBUH!) gets special dispensation... - Laminarcissus, on 03/06/2008, -0/+0ron paul won texas, that's a good one.
in 2004 401 of the 435 sitting members of the house were up for reelection. Of those 401, all but five were reelected.
dead people have kept their house seats.
he had a huge war chest that he diverted from his presidential campaign.
he would have had to be somehow worse than dead to lose his house seat. - neckfire, on 03/06/2008, -0/+1What I want to know is how he did in the presidential race in his own district.

The county with the highest percentage in Paul's district only gave him %15 percent. Seems low to me...
