- Pritchard, on 05/10/2008, -5/+18If there's more people out there like me, this book will continue to be on the New York Times Best Seller List, as I've had this book in my shopping cart on Amazon for quite some time. Will get to buying it once we have money.
- retrac1325, on 05/10/2008, -5/+19Bought it and read it twice. Excellent book by an excellent candidate.
- Likkerish, on 05/10/2008, -11/+25Incredible! #1 on Amazon.com with over a million people affirming their interest in Dr. Paul. And, now #1 on New York Times best seller list. And, McCain is the presumptive nominee. Wonder how a book by McCain would sell. What's wrong with this picture?

Faith of My Fathers (the more popular of the two McCain books there) was released in late August 1999. Over the course of 8 years since it's release, it has received 181 Amazon reviews averaging 4.5 stars.
Ron Paul's Revolution: A Manifesto, was released LAST MONTH and has 287 Amazon reviews averaging 5/5 stars. Ask yourself who's message resonates with more Americans.- ncurses, on 05/12/2008, -3/+8McCain's

But the question was how well would it sell, not how many spammers there are. - reed311, on 05/13/2008, -2/+5LOL. Read the 5 star reviews for Paul's book. At least half of them haven't even read the book, but merely speculate on the content or blindly praise the man. I've seen two star reviews of the book (that specifically reference it) that have been removed because the Paulites are marking them as "inappropriate".

- Kent4jmj, on 05/10/2008, -9/+14Amazon "recommends" The Law by Frederic Bastiat. Get it!
Ron Paul highly recomends this website.
http://mises.org/
I have got to start reading this stuff.- PaDM, on 05/11/2008, -0/+8"The Law" is a great essay! Bastiat (a French lawyer) wrote it ~1850, when the US was the envy of freedom lovers everywhere. It is just as timely today, describing what government and law should and could be.
- V3n0M, on 05/10/2008, -8/+12This is great news! This will greatly expand the readership from just those who know and support Ron Paul to include many who just want to see what the fuss is about, or just want to be "in the know".
- Kent4jmj, on 05/10/2008, -7/+10"On the other hand, what is a tax? A tax is the coercive expropriation of the property of an individual by the rulers of the State. The rulers use this property for whatever purposes they desire — usually the rulers will distribute it in such a manner as to insure their continuance in office, i.e., by subsidizing favored groups. In addition, the rulers decide which individuals will pay the taxes — the decision consisting of expropriating the property of groups disliked by the rulers."
That be us.
http://mises.org/story/2950 - ncurses, on 05/10/2008, -9/+15hey guys I hear that taxes are unconstitutional and the moral equivalent of someone holding a gun to your head
also you shouldn't have any obligation to pay for the benefits you receive from living in a stable society or help the less fortunate hth
edit: also there is no possible compromise; any taxation is a slippery slope to communism- V3n0M, on 05/10/2008, -5/+14The Browns didn't pay their taxes so the SWAT Team arrived at their door. They weren't there to deliver flowers! If you don't pay your taxes, it isn't just the "moral equivalent" you literally get a gun to your head!
One shouldn't have any *legal* obligation to pay for those less fortunate - charity should be voluntary, not forced through threats of violence. In the absence of government collected funds, true charitable donations increase to levels beyond what the government takes by force.
edit: good point!- ncurses, on 05/10/2008, -7/+9I know brah!
- Hortnon, on 05/10/2008, -9/+8No, you're wrong. They went crazy, stopped going to court, were convicted, refused to recognize the court's authority, and THEN the FBI showed up. Even then, not a shot was fired in their arrest.
Tax protestors are silly. They always leave out the important facts. See: Every case tax protestors pretend proves their point.- ncurses, on 05/11/2008, -7/+5uh no they were freedom fighters ***** and they were just asserting their right to opt out of society, it's not like they were benefiting in any way from living in the US.
They never used welfare, unemployment, social security, public roads, law enforcement, fresh water, tested drugs, inspected meat, acceptable pesticides, nontoxic dyes and cosmetics, read an honest business's income report, invested money, used public schools, consumed an alcoholic beverage without methanol contamination, worn a seatbelt, used teflon for any purpose, used electricity in a rural location without a gas generator, used a communication sattelite, voted, used the court system, used a court appointed lawyer, been to a jail with certain basic care, watched PBS, listened to NPR, used a device that broadcasts or receives radio transmissions, bought a T-bill, been to a licensed physician, used the services of a licensed lawyer, attended a public university, read a nutrition facts label, or used public transportation
and there is no reason they should have to pay for ANY of it
- ncurses, on 05/11/2008, -7/+5uh no they were freedom fighters ***** and they were just asserting their right to opt out of society, it's not like they were benefiting in any way from living in the US.
- ssn697, on 05/11/2008, -10/+6Why are you so disrespectful? He changed their names. They are not the Browns any longer. His wife had no choice in the matter, as he said women have no rights. They are secondary citizens.
He also said he no longer recognizes mans law, so why are you still arguing for him? You living paycheck to paycheck, hating having to pay taxes, lets you support some right wing religious nut who ***** on women. You are a piss poor excuse of a man.
- Kent4jmj, on 05/10/2008, -7/+12Your portrayal of preceding comments is a caricature of the anti income tax position and shows that since you have no real arguments you've really nothing to say.
- ncurses, on 05/10/2008, -10/+9no I'm on your side if someone tries to tax you it is your duty to stockpile guns and forcibly assert your right to free enterprise
- Observant1, on 05/11/2008, -0/+7good sarcasm that brought up good debating points.
I understood the tax game as a kid, the more you earn the more they take, until you can overcome the impossible hurdle of over 100,000 per year, then the percentage drops drastically. it is intentionally set up to keep a "littler" person down.
the very wealthy (induvidual or corporate entity) more often owe their successes to the support (or deception) of the public, with a much smaller percentage returned to the people, even though these high incomes are a very, very small percentage of voters.
the same wealth has more influence over non productive government overseers have de-industrialized the US, which has dropped wages and availability of work and making "gainful employment" extremely scarce (as the fed devaluates the money by excessive printing). by doing this they have reduced their own tax revenue base, less people making less money paying less in taxes... but they dont care, instead they go on out and borrow to fund themselves in an illegal war in the middle east, and expand the hell out of a police state control grid with camera's everywhere, "legalized" indescriminant wire tapping, torture and execution of the public with tazers, all by the same MF's that made us overall more unemployed, justified by a war on terrorism, a war on drugs, both just codewords for war upon the people.
paying taxes is paying tribute to this system that is in the business of taking things away from us anymore, selling/leasing publicly funded highways to foreign interests who put up tollbooths, selling state lotteries, water companies and water rights, power/utility companies, to foreign interests, with all this crap theyre pulling by all rights there should be a great income tax refusal/protest, we are not represented, we are exploited, even by force. the same government is now also hiring/funding mercenaries, advertizing to hire for more brownshirt "homeland security" positions. face it, police, lawyers, judges, and politicians, are non-productive and more often just in the business of taking money for other peoples miseries.
gee we oughtta really thank em for it too.- ncurses, on 05/11/2008, -2/+2hell yeah *****
- Parapadrifter, on 05/12/2008, -0/+2A tariff from which the government recieved most of its funding, for a variety of reasons was bringing in less revenenue. at the same time federal expenditures was going up, thanks in part by an increase in the military budget. an alternative had to be found. At the time, many Americans viewed the tariff as an unfair tax, that burdened them as consumers, and benefited big business by sheltering it from foreign competition. A tax on incomes, the argument went, would at last force the rich to pay their share. And thats just how the income tax was pitched to the people. Tax relief for you, in the form of lower tariffs and a tax increase for the rich. "do not worry" people were told. Only the richest of the rich will ever pay the income tax. That phony promise didn't last long. within a few years, tax rates had shot through the roof and classes of people who had thought they'd never be taxed, found themselves paying as well. An by the 1920's the tariff was raised again anyway, so the people wound up getting the worst of both worlds.(Paul section 3-5)

For those interested in using the arguments and positions put forth by Dr. Paul for freedom in health care.- ncurses, on 05/10/2008, -7/+7Yeah dude, free healthcare would trample everyone's right to refuse healthcare. Whether or not it would practically be good for everyone or not, it eliminates your right to opt out of society in general and FORCES you to help other people.

- Herkimer56, on 05/10/2008, -8/+11More often than that if you count the ones they gather for the bi-weekly book burnings.
- V3n0M, on 05/10/2008, -8/+10You've written a lot of things I don't agree with, but this is just downright ignorant. Ron Paul's biggest fight is against the encroachment of our civil liberties, and the biggest portion of that fight is for freedom of speech and against censorship. I'm disappointed, Herkimer56, this is very poor trolling.
- ncurses, on 05/10/2008, -8/+8Freedom from government coercion should be our top priority. There is NO SUCH THING as a societal good that can come from FORCED taxation. Income gaps, whether you like them or not, are irrelevant because every rich person has earned his or her wealth by hard work and ingenuity and is entitled to every last penny, and owes nothing to society.
Once we're done with government, we will finally be free from all forms of coercion. - V3n0M, on 05/10/2008, -6/+6Sarcasm and ignorance won't help you win any arguments.

Required Reserves in American banks are, in total, still only a lousy, insignificant, almost nothing, squat-like, stinking $40.2 billion, which is about the same low, low, low amount that it has been since 2000, while deposits and loans grew like a cancer to trillions of dollars, and now Required Reserves as percentage of anything new in the banks is certainly the lowest in the history of banking, because there is nothing less than zero! Hahahaha!
So, for how much assets and debt is this piddly $40.2 billion counted as its "reserves"? Doug Noland, in his Credit Bubble Bulletin at PrudentBear.com, reports that bank credit alone is $8.923 trillion. And how fast is bank credit growing? "Bank credit," says Mr Noland, "is now up $280 billion over the past 10 weeks, with a $627bn, or 10.1% annualized, y-t-d gain", while "Loans & Leases surged $25.9bn to a record $6.574 TN (10-wk gain of $249bn)."
So it looks like about $15.4 trillion in bank assets and liabilities is being backed up by a minuscule $40.2 billion! That's a microscopic 0.0026%. A quarter of 1%! Hahahaha! Fractional reserve banking at its finest! Hahahaha!- Hortnon, on 05/13/2008, -1/+4Soooo no point to actually make, then?
