Powell praises Obama's handling of Rev. Wright controversy
blogs.usatoday.com — "I think that Sen. Obama handled the issue well," Powell said. "He didn't look the other way. He didn't wait for the, for the, you know, for the storm to go over. He went on television, and I thought, gave a very, very thoughtful, direct speech. And he didn't abandon the minister who brought him closer to his faith."

- QuantumBios, on 04/10/2008, -14/+4Nice speech for sure, but that's what he's trained to do, give speeches and vote "present".
- dinot, on 04/10/2008, -4/+6Oh, just shut the ***** up.
- Pherdnut, on 04/10/2008, -4/+6Just like you're trained to believe lies?
- zephyear, on 04/10/2008, -4/+6someone hasn't read his senate voting records.
- brokenspatula, on 04/11/2008, -3/+3it's the same as hillary, but according to digg obama is jesus and hillary is the devel

- brokenspatula, on 04/11/2008, -3/+2that's what lawyers do, they persuade. Doesn't make him a good president
- ElAssoWipo, on 04/11/2008, -1/+2Meh, looks like another JFK to me. He'll be loved by millions, no matter how many people he kills and how many coups he sets up and how many terrorists he funds.
- iainc, on 04/11/2008, -1/+1Bitter much?
- Pherdnut, on 04/10/2008, -5/+4I'm finding it hard to give Powell's semi-endorsements any weight. I used to respect him but he had his chance to stand up for what was right and he blew it. Sure people slip sometimes but as a former general he damn well knew what the consequences of his actions were going to be.
- caponumen, on 04/10/2008, -4/+3I wonder if Powell will be able to resurrect his political carrier after his embarrassing failure in the Bush administration?
I know he was partly duped but it seems clear he should have resigned instead of going along with the idiotic war plans.- LKnight, on 04/11/2008, -1/+3He has stated repeatedly he seeks no elected office, that's NOT his way of serving. Hence he has no "political career" to resurrect.
- Arvaksrotas, on 04/11/2008, -0/+1Duped? Try self-inflicted. Duped does not exist at that level.
- ShemDaimwood, on 04/11/2008, -6/+7Colin Powell lied to the United Nations and the American people about Iraq's non-existent weapons of mass destruction.
- Midoc, on 04/11/2008, -4/+4Did you miss the part where all of the people who reported to him lied about the existence of the wmd's because someone higher up than Powell told them to?
- smotpoker, on 04/11/2008, -1/+1I dugg ya, but... not sure if it is just his humble demeanor or apparent remorse, but I am more inclined to believe his advocation of Iraq war really was due to faulty information than I am with Condoleezza.
The evidence they presented was a bit compelling, though not enough to make me feel it warranted invasion, it was not a far leap from criteria that might justify military action. I'm hesitant to classify what could have been a mistake based on misinformation or disinformation as a lie - cashman57, on 04/14/2008, -0/+2Yet again we see the wisom of Ron Paul who was not fooled by the false information and opposed the use of force resolution and the off budget funding.
None of the three Senators did.
Only Ron Paul had the wisdom and respect for the Constitution that would have prevented thousands of deaths.
I don't blame Powell, he was just following orders.
It wasn't like he was a Senator who could have filibustered it.
- Bukowsky, on 04/11/2008, -3/+7Ya know. I'm not a big fan of the Bush Administration. Actually, I think they have ***** up this country pretty bad... But not too long ago, I saw Colin Powell give a speech. It completely changed my opinion of him. He was captivating. Convincing. Charming.... (Like most politicians are)
Obviously, he share's in some of the guilt for the War in Iraq... But, I'm not filled with hate for him, like I am with Bush, Cheney & Rumsfeld. And I think it shows alot of class for him to cross party lines and defend Obama.- Midoc, on 04/11/2008, -1/+5Colin Powell is nowhere near as bad as the others. He was the lone voice in the Bush administration who said that war with Iraq would not end well, it was because of this he was chosen to take all the blame for the intelligence failures. He's not shiny, but he didn't deserve what he got so it's good to see that he is redeeming himself.
- Stevanoski, on 04/11/2008, -11/+3Powell is a perfect example of affirmative action.
- felman87, on 04/11/2008, -1/+5You're a perfect example of why we should have abortions

- Depthfunction, on 04/11/2008, -3/+4Although it probably won't happen. I'd love to see an Obama/Powell ticket. *****, that would rock my world.
Obama needs to pick a VP with credible foreign policy experience and, possibly, a military background. Powell fits the bill. He was one of the few voices of reason in the first half of Dubya's presidency (and so, naturally, he was forced out) so I don't his Bush associations wouldn't hurt him much.
Some might balk at the idea of two black men on a single ticket, but hey, we see two white guys on presidential tickets all the time. Why not two black guys? - Apokalyps2547, on 04/11/2008, -5/+3FOX starts smearing Powell in 3... 2...
- Arvaksrotas, on 04/11/2008, -0/+0No need, can you say "UN presentation"? Self-checked.
- smacksaw, on 04/11/2008, -0/+1Uhh...zaibatsu...buddy...
Why did you link to the blog page and not the article itself? Already taken? - Picaroon, on 04/11/2008, -0/+2Before the torrent of anti-Colin Powell rhetoric begins, please read up on him. Colin Powell served his country honorably and did a lot of important jobs. If you're against the Iraq War, note that he tried to build a coalition for the Iraq War instead of a unilateral approach, and also tried to dissuade Bush from invading. At the same time, he realized that he was an important member of the United States government and has always shown discretion and wisdom in his role.
- Enron1985, on 04/11/2008, -0/+0I think Wright did the best job in dealing with the Wright controversy; crawling under a rock and not saying a word.
