Pastor's Invocation at McCain Rally implies God on their sid
blogs.wsj.com — Sometimes the most interesting stuff happens before John McCain even arrives. At a McCain rally today in Davenport, a pastor delivered an odd invocation.

- redcolumbine, on 10/11/2008, -0/+3The weirdest thing about this "prayer" is that it tries to invoke God's self-interest, essentially threatening God with a black eye if McCain doesn't win. Just like everybody assumes that other people's personalities are similar to theirs, I suppose this preacher figures God is just as petty and selfish as he is. I suspect God actually had a pretty good laugh at it.
- gordysmom3, on 10/11/2008, -0/+2 I find this truly frightening. McCain / Palin - the Apocalyptic Ticket to Nowhere !!!
- MediaWeasel, on 10/12/2008, -0/+1Speaking as a non-Christian, and relishing hugely the irony of this article, I wonder what the right wingnuts would say if we suggested that God has already spoken and deemed McCain's campaign bad news for America and the world and that McCain and Palin will lose.
Remember that religious man who prayed to God for a downpour on the Democratic National Convention, and it was a gorgeous day? God's joke at his expense.
Remember McCain's overweening pride in his selection of a VP - who turned out to be the worst possible choice for America and is facing charge after charge of incompetence and bad practice? God's justice.
Remember McCain being forced to say Obama is a decent family man and that no-one has anything to fear from him as a President? (And being booed by his supporters too ..) God righting wrongs.
Again, remember McCain having to take the mic from a supporter and tell her Obama is not an Arab and that he's a decent, family man etc etc with whom he has differences ..? God righting wrongs - again.
I could go on, but I'm sure you're getting the picture. :-)
No doubt right wingnuts will deny all this and say they have a direct hotline to God. Funny that God doesn't seem to be picking up .. - cowboytrumpet, on 10/13/2008, -0/+0Dear god, I'm hoping you read digg since I'm not much for prayer, but please teach those people a lesson, you know the ones, those kooky folks who think only their religion is the right one and who want to fashion you into their image. I promise I'll pay some homage this week to you. In fact I'll make a margarita right now and offer you up a toast, oh benevolent one. Me and god, having a margarita together. I like that. Could you have Palin trip on stage today as a sign that you received this message. Thanks, your friend Cowboytrumpet.
