Her values are a real insult to women who are not part of the religious right.
- diggproof, on 09/07/2008, -3/+24This race isn't even close despite what national polls say. It's the Electoral College that's the deciding factor, not popular vote.

Obama will win all Kerry states and more, and Kerry lost in 2004 by only 18 E.C. votes.
It's my projection that he'll win at least 300 E.C. votes, but he only needs 270 to become president.- badnewshotel, on 09/07/2008, -13/+5Great projection. I project you will be crying on election night.
- diggproof, on 09/07/2008, -3/+8Keep clinging to your Zogby and Rasmussen polls, Obama is getting elected and nothing, not even Reverend Wright or William Ayers will overshadow the last 8 years of failed policies and corporate welfare. Your candidate is pretty much marching lockstep with Bush, his fancy little veto pen isn't going to convince people that he's going to be any different.
- 5urr3al5am, on 09/07/2008, -12/+5Why show Oprah on the graphic? Oprah is a Journalistic Nazi-Queen who doesn't allow apposing republican views on her show.. She's not allowing Palin to come on her show and allow people to get to know her. Though she's had Obama on several times now. Nice open-mindedness.. what a bunch of bullsh!t

i just shared it with all my political junkie friends and they think it's the greatest thing since sliced bread!
on a side note, I find it amusing how no mainstream news outlet reports on the votes that matter -- at the end of the day, it's the electoral college and obama is blowing that out of the water. it comes to show how much they want to make this election look close.
i guess manufacturing the impression that it's a close race so that everyone is on the edge of their seats, even when it's far from the truth, is good for ratings. - Charlotte_Web, on 09/07/2008, -4/+4Actually, Palin is currently polling higher than McCain OR Obama, overall, and has a 59% favorability with independents.

Also, running that crazy carpetbagging freak Alan Keyes against Obama in 2004 didn't do anything to enhance your standing among black voters. Go watch the debates from that election. Obama can barely control his laughter every time Keyes speaks. E.g. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZxiVnuFFoI

- thelif, on 09/07/2008, -2/+16Instead of arguing with staunch Conservatives on Digg, understand that it is unlikely you will change someone’s mind over the internet. Why not do some of the following to help Barack Obama.
1. Register to vote and vote on Nov 4th.
2. Tell your friends/roommates/family/neighbors to register and vote on Nov 4th.
3. Show your friends/roommates/family/neighbors clips of the Daily Show/Colbert Report.
4. Go to 2 and Repeat.
Let’s make a difference and I look forward to digging the Democratic victory on Nov 4th.- badnewshotel, on 09/07/2008, -15/+3Yes, good idea. Then, if Barry wins, you can let your friends move in with you when they lose their jobs and homes after Barry's tax increases take affect.

- Schmapdi, on 09/07/2008, -2/+5"since sharing a gender is about as good a reason to vote for someone as driving the same kind of car"
In Mcain's defense - he looked at existing data showing that gender = vote with 100% accuracy for men thus far. So naturally he assumed it would hold true for women too.
He also noted that white people voted among racial lines for the president 100% of the time, while surprisingly, black people also voted for white people 100% of the time, a statistic he's banking on pretty heavily for this election. It's his ace in the hole! - Cyrus042, on 09/07/2008, -3/+622 Women doesn't make for a scientific poll. Plus this study really just states the obvious. Many women can relate to Palin on a personal level (which is important politically) but a single speech wouldn't necessarily determine who they would vote for.
And again, Women's rights goes beyond just abortion. It shouldn't be a litmus test for feminism because at its heart its a moral, not ideological issue. - cliffzdude, on 09/07/2008, -1/+6Does *ANYBODY* ever actually *READ* the articles posted on Digg? EVER???
22 women. This Big Front Page News is based upon a focus group of 22 women.
Not 22,000, not 2,200, not 220, but 22.
Love or hate either party or their candidates, I find it infuriating how people can comment with posh confidence that they "knew it", when they obviously didn't read the article or are willing to completely ignore everything they know about statistics and sampling when it suits their view.
Digg is supposed to be a place where techy, and somewhat smarter, yes often geeky or nerdy can hang out and see through the garbage put out there by the MSM. Well Sir, that day has come to an end. Palin is much closer to the Classical Liberals of old than anyone on a presidential ticket in the last 30 years.
- stagmire, on 09/07/2008, -3/+7So why are all the old school democrats from that era like Ted Kennedy supporting Obama?
- wisefool9, on 09/07/2008, -1/+10" Republicans are like the Democrats of 40 years ago. "
Ah, 40 years ago.
McCarthyism. Pre-Civil Rights. Dixiecrats. Lynchings. Segregation. Creationism. Blacklists. Cold War. Nuclear testing and Elvis Presley.
Yeah, those were the days.
Democrats ain't socialists. The only places where EVERYBODY is on welfare are France and Alaska.
Oh. Wait a sec. - lajaw, on 09/07/2008, -6/+2Did you get your incentive check this spring? Did you send it back?
McCarthy was correct. And he was gone 40 years ago. Democrats AND neo-cons are socialists/communists. Democrats and neo-cons don't believe what the Constitution says. They ignore it. And you know I'm correct.
"McCarthyism. Pre-Civil Rights. Dixiecrats. Lynchings. Segregation. Creationism. Blacklists. Cold War. Nuclear testing and Elvis Presley."
Democrats were the power back then too. - lajaw, on 09/07/2008, -4/+2stag- he's one of them. You need to reread what I wrote. I said the Republicans are like the Democrats of 40 years ago. Kennedy has followed the flow with the rest of the left. This country is much more socialist now than 40 years ago. And compared to 140 years ago, we are in the gutter as for freedom and liberty. And it is because of both the Republicans and Democrats.
- stagmire, on 09/07/2008, -0/+540 years ago? Really?
The Civil Rights Act was enacted under LBJ in 1964. School segregation ended with Brown v. Board ten years earlier. Joseph McCarthy died in 1957. Lynchings were rare after 1965 or so.
40 years ago, Republicans were putting corrupt liars and drunks like Nixon and Kissinger in charge of the nation. They were lying to congress and secretly bombing countries like Cambodia and Laos, laying the groundwork for terrorist guerilllas to take over and terrorize the populace.
The more things change... - stagmire, on 09/07/2008, -0/+4"Kennedy has followed the flow with the rest of the left."
Kennedy is an old school democrat from 40 years ago. You said republicans today are like democrats from 40 years ago. Therefore, you implied that republicans today are like Ted Kennedy.
"This country is much more socialist now than 40 years ago."
Huh, that would be news to the architects of LBJ's "great society," which has been under assault by Congressional republicans since 1994. Why don't you compare Head Start funding 40 years ago with today and get back to me? I'll give you a "head start": http://www.cbpp.org/2-5-08bud.htm

- Saea, on 09/06/2008, -13/+21I knew from the start that the only reason why Palin was picked to be McCain's running mate was because they thought that having a minority or change from the usual politician would gain some sympathy votes, or votes from minorities. Put a pretty face in front of a hand picked audience and let her read a speech she didn’t write and she becomes the next sham for the American people. But the spineless media and redneck state I mean red state America has bought into this farce. She won’t be interviewed by anyone until she has been drilled over and over again with prepared answers for questions she may be asked. And the questions will come from friendly interviews with Sean Hannity Rush Limbaugh and Larry King. She will avoid all Sunday talk shows unless the questions are given in advance.
In the meantime she will continue to spew hate filled disparageing and racially tinged remarks about Obama without offering any solutions to the problems this country face. With only two months before the election, the hope is that slide this hand pick pretty face into office by baffeling us with their ***** since they can’t dazzle us with their brillyance. MCcain is willing to win a election with gimmicks and slogans than with issues, which doesn’t bode well for the American people. But Bush did the same to us for 8 years. "Sarah Palin served the town of Wasilla Alaska as mayor for 2 terms which ended in 2002. During her tenure, she approached the town librarian about the possibility of banning some books. The librarian, Mary Ellen Emmons, pledged to "resist all efforts at censorship." Ms. Palin fired Ms. Emmons shortly after taking office but changed course after residents made a strong show of support. Ms. Emmons left her job and Wasilla a couple of years later.
Sarah Palin fired the police chief and asked for the resignations of the public works director, city planner, and museum director. Others were forced out. Ms. Palin also changed the town's traditional ways with a surprise rule: No employee was to talk to the news media without her permission." - ozel01, on 09/07/2008, -1/+0I don't know where that "quote" came from but I didn't read it as part of either of those links. But, in the comparisons for VP candidates, I must say, Nancy Pelosi has five children. Why wasn't she ridiculed as unfit? Joe Biden was a single father. Why wasn't he ridiculed as being unfit? The point is, this is all irrelevant. If it applies to one it applies to all or it applies to no one.

Obama08- ozel01, on 09/07/2008, -2/+0And then the American People arrive at the same decision they have arrived at for a couple of decades now: The VP isn't important. If the VP were important, Bush/Quayle and Clinton/Gore would have been a lost cause. Quayle went into hiding after his VP stint and Gore couldn't even win his home state in the 2000 Presidential race. Says a lot for the quality of VP choices all the way around. Definitely says people don't view the VP as very important on the ticket. And I love how everyone assumes McCain picked her to somehow grab all the Hillary voters. Anyone who wanted to vote for McCain after Hillary got dissed by Obama is still voting McCain. McCain was doing three things with Palin: 1) Energize the Republican base. She has accomplished that. 2) Target a large block of independent and undecided voters. The results of that will be seen on November 4th. 3) Reinforce his maverick stance as one for change. He has done that.
Ultimately, he is showing he is about changing Washington. On "Meet The Press" this morning, McCain stated he would appoint the brightest and best to his cabinet, irrespective of party affiliation. He said he would also ask those who are truly rich to serve for $1 a year. I agree whole heartedly to that as the grid lock in Washington is not going to be broken unless our elected officials start reaching across the aisle.
Polling sources are saying it appears weekend polling results being released tomorrow are going to show McCain has pulled ahead of Obama by 6 or 7 points, on his convention bounce. - paigeinphilly, on 09/09/2008, -0/+2Have you really taken a look at McCain's voting record?

- charm803, on 09/07/2008, -4/+4Yeah, I have to agree with zephyear-I don't think the bounce came from women.

- rahamm, on 09/08/2008, -0/+1Any poll done on the weekends should be thrown out. It has been shown time and time again Obama's poll numbers always significantly drop on the weekend because his base, younger voters, are always left out at these times. It is a Dewey beats Truman problem pollsters have found this election cycle. Not only but Zogby's polls suck period their methodology is just plain terrible. An interactive online panel is not representative of the US as a whole. That is why no one cites them ever. Not only that they have continuously putt McCain in the lead when almost all others have had him down even at times when he was down by 7-8 points. They are the fox news of polling.
- amightywind, on 09/07/2008, -30/+14Keep saying that to yourselves, liberals. Even Former VP Candidate Geraldine Ferrarro is on board. In announcing Sarah Palin his running mate he ripped the sheet off of Obomber's Kryptonite!

- ZenMojo, on 09/07/2008, -1/+9Because we clearly voted 89% for Gore and 90% for Kerry because they were black....they must have been blacker than Obama because Obama's only getting 85% of black voters right now....
- runCMD, on 09/07/2008, -5/+2LOL Skippy - that was funny right thar!
Pilot85 - tell me dude. Are you proud that a black man might be the next president ? Does it bring tears to your eyes - or warm your hear that a brother could be leading this country ? All I see is bigotry in faces of those so enraptured in the idea that pigment means something. Why ? There is a clear and distinct line being drawn around me by people I use to consider very close - because I don't support Obama for president. The Glee they feel at the mere thought of a black man at the top is enough to make you sick. If I were to swoon over the fact that a white man were to win - I would/should be considered bigoted. I hold no different distinction with my friends of color and their hearty emotion in seeing a black man take the office. The color of your skin entitles you to no greater investment in the presidency than mine - so I say. Get over it. If Obama wins - it demonstrates what ? That a man can be president ?
And ZenMojo - those percentages are deceiving - aren't they. It's the volume that counts this time. The desperate push by the Obama campaign to go into typically republican territory and - he's not pushing to just get new voters registered ... nope. He's pushing hardest to get new black voters registered - because he knows his statisics are really high among those that want to vote based on color.. How bigoted does HE have to be for you to wake up ? Michelle Obama said it best - when she said that Obama's numbers with black voters would improve - when they 'Woke Up' and joined his cause. (yep - that makes her a bigot too)
We will never move beyond race as an issue - if people keep seeing skin color as important in anything. - ragley, on 09/08/2008, -0/+1I'm a democrat from the "old south" .I was taught, it doest matter if you have to vote for a black man or a woman, don't ever vote for a god damn republican.

- akinapb, on 09/07/2008, -1/+2He's getting dugg down because it was a horrific generalization of the single women in this country. It is equivalent to saying all McCain supporters are ignorant, redneck, religious nuts. Even though it has some underlying truth to it, the statement itself is still a logical fallacy considering the is based on assumption, and assumptions coming from the judgment of a person who has no appeals to ethos means essentially nothing. - Taiyoryu, on 09/07/2008, -2/+11For all those who are voting because of gender, aim higher than Palin, please. FYI The Green Party is an all female ticket: Cynthia McKinney / Rosa Clemente. Why settle for VP when you can have a woman as President? Personally I think you should ignore gender when choosing someone for the highest office in this country, but what do I know?
- MikeFallopian, on 09/07/2008, -1/+2Cynthia McKinney is 17 flavors of NUTS.
- nbouma, on 09/07/2008, -0/+1Yeah the green party is getting a lot of attention these days...good luck with that argument
- Taiyoryu, on 09/07/2008, -0/+1My argument still stands. Gender is irrelevant. Competency is what matters.
However, for those people who believe one should vote simply because of gender, that any woman is as good as any other, then why stop at the VP? Why not put your vote towards putting a woman in the presidency. I proposed McKinney simply because she also has a female running mate. A 2-for-1 deal if you will. Of course if Green ideals don't do it for you, there's always Gloria La Riva of the PSL, but I'd watch out. For some reason the S-word is verboten for some around here.
