Many other denominations do not accept their "gifts" as being authentic.

- keigwyn, on 09/07/2008, -0/+13Many evangelical pastors call down the wrath of God for any number of sins. Many of the people responding in horror against Rev. Wright are people who have nodded in agreement with such statements when THEIR OWN pastor said it. It is my opinion that these statements, regardless of their justification, are problematic--I condone nor agree with either.
However, I think it is hypocritical and reveals a great deal when the same person who thinks God is going to destroy America because of gay marriage and other "sins" throws an almighty fit when a black man says the same because of slavery and institutionalized racism. Racism is often a deeply buried thing that few people realize they carry with them, and will fight tooth and nail to hide it. Sadly, these same people have little self-awareness, and are unlikely going to realize their hypocrisy no matter what. Unfortunately, my mother is one of them. - JenniferInMO, on 09/07/2008, -0/+8This is just a sliver of some really scary sermons which have now been removed from the church's site. I heard one where he talked about Jesus having a "warring side" and that this one, starting in Iraq is one which he wants us to fight and that if we don't lay down our lives it is disobeying Jesus. It isn't about sin. It is specific about a religious war. It just gets creepier by the day.
