This seems to be pretty well researched and documented, so I hope it gets out in spite of all the untrue crap that's floating around about Palin.- rozers, on 09/10/2008, -22/+3speaking of fox news........they say palin is a very good person.
should I believe that biased source, or this one?.- bjornski, on 09/10/2008, -1/+31Ignore the source in both instances. Look at the facts.
One says she's a "good" person.
The other shows that after being interviewed, someone who previously was critical of her, and who later gave glowing reviews, was promoted, no doubt raising his pay scale and many other things.
Again. Sources aside, you compare. YOU decide. - scubaman5000, on 09/10/2008, -5/+20Is Sarah Palin a liar? Let's see what she has to say...

Conclusion: Sarah Palin is a liar. - cliffzdude, on 09/10/2008, -2/+16I'll get dugg down for posting the truth, but what the *****:
"no doubt raising his pay scale"
Not true: http://housemajority.org/spon.php?id=25hb210-199
"An increase in rank will not impact the state budget and will not increase the adjutant general's salary as a state employee." - bjornski, on 09/10/2008, -0/+10Thanks for that info, cliffzdude.
More info is always better. :) - t0emas, on 09/10/2008, -3/+3You Do realize that a mayor or governor can not force the National guard to promote someone? There is so much more to it then just hey promote him/her now.
- bjornski, on 09/10/2008, -0/+6Well, apparently it was only a state appointment. On a federal level, he's still viewed as a 2 star. But in his mind, and in state matters, he's got 3.
Making it a pretty much meaningless promotion.
- bjornski, on 09/10/2008, -1/+31Ignore the source in both instances. Look at the facts.
- insomniac8400, on 09/10/2008, -5/+5What was untrue? Keep in mind the book list was so blatantly fake that it was never associated with Sarah Palin.

- cliffzdude, on 09/10/2008, -11/+33Ummm, does anybody even care this is inaccurate? Alaska passed a little bill making this so back in spring of 2007.
http://housemajority.org/spon.php?id=25hb210-199
"The National Guard Bureau in Washington, D.C. is considering an increase in rank for the bureau chief, from three-star to four-star. Increasing the rank from major general to lieutenant general will give the Alaska National Guard a jump start on this initiative and make our adjutant general more qualified and better received when working with issues back in Washington, D.C. An increase in rank will not impact the state budget and will not increase the adjutant general's salary as a state employee."- h3lx, on 09/10/2008, -0/+11From what I know, it takes a bit more than a single acting individual to promote a General. Palin can make a recommendation to an advisory board who in turn can pass it along to the promoting body, but she does not have the authority to up and promote a General on a whim. There is a procedure to the process and to suggest this kind of thing is just silly. There are bigger fish than this.
- gwaggy12, on 09/10/2008, -0/+6Don't digg Cliffzdude down! If he's found evidence refuting this, then it should be read.

- 808ethan, on 09/10/2008, -6/+7Didn't we have this type of corruption so bad in the 20's that they made a term for it? (cant remember) It became the reason we have some public officers that work on a different term than their boss, so they won't just be replaced if they don't submit.

- Laminarcissus, on 09/10/2008, -10/+11What's even scarier is that she's apparently been planning this since April of 2007, since that's when HB210, the bill that authorized the promotion was passed.
To think, a year ago she already knew she would be a Vice Presidential candidate, be criticized on her foreign policy experience, not supported by the national guard, and need promotions to buy their support.
She *is* scary. - cliffzdude, on 09/10/2008, -9/+10The story is not accurate, actually its taking two facts and inferring foul play. The realty is this has been in the works since spring of 2007. Also on a national scale.

Google Alaska Bill HB 210, passed by the legislature last year. This is an automatic promotion caused by a structural change in the guard - the Bureau Head in Washington was promoted to 4-star, so the Major Generals in the states go from 2-star to 3-star.
Digg becomes more pathetic and irrelevant by the day.- goalieman392, on 09/10/2008, -18/+45Dugg for truth, non sensationalism and common sense. You sir, are awesome.

- MisteryMeat, on 09/10/2008, -10/+22Like if someones middle name is Hussein how people will assume you are a Muslim. Good thing conservatives are above this childish behavior.
- rthakidn, on 09/10/2008, -3/+5@mistery, Is Hussein, Obama's middle name? It is factual. If Barry thought the name would be a burden, he could have legally changed it. If on the other hand, he didn't change it in order to relate to American Muslims, it's a calculated risk HE'S taken.

Why should Palin be immune from the same kind of harsh public review that other politicians face? She has come from nowhere, there is bound to be a rush of information and claims. The fact that she is getting hammered right now is the price that is paid for plucking her from obscurity.

Fact Check: The story is a lie.
An increase in rank will not impact the state budget and will not increase the adjutant general's salary as a state employee." - icsbase, on 09/10/2008, -4/+1Promotion is NOT an automation. It MAY happen if the person is qualified to receive one and will not happen if there isnt even more high ranking positions available.
- MtnXfreerider1, on 09/10/2008, -0/+2@icsbase, The general was qualified, a slot opened, sounds reasonable for him to get the job.
- cliffzdude, on 09/10/2008, -12/+22Given Digg has taken to accepting any false rumor as fact it has indeed made the Digg community look like a magnet for the village idiota.
- TheTardis, on 09/10/2008, -10/+17Maybe you should read the bill:
"It is important to note this legislation does not limit the power of the Governor to appoint a viable candidate as Adjutant General/Commissioner of the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs. This legislation is supported by the Administration and I ask for your favorable consideration." - geobak9, on 09/10/2008, -7/+38HB 210 States as ammended Section 1. AS 26.05.160(a) is amended to read:
04 (a) The adjutant general of the state is appointed by the governor. In
05 appointing the adjutant general, the governor may give preference to a person
06 who has served at least five years in the Alaska Army National Guard or the
07 Alaska Air National Guard. The governor shall prescribe the grade of the adjutant
08 general, which may not exceed lieutenant [MAJOR] general. To be eligible for
09 appointment as adjutant general, a person must be a citizen of the state and must be a
10 federally recognized general-grade officer in the Alaska National Guard or an
11 officer who has the qualifications to gain federal recognition as a general-grade
12 officer either in active status or in retirement status eligible for reappointment as
13 a general-grade officer. The adjutant general shall make returns and reports to the
14 Chief, National Guard Bureau, and to the governor or to the officers designated by the
15 Chief, National Guard Bureau, and the governor, at the times and in the form
01 prescribed.
there is no need for promotion as he was already a general grade officer - the requisite qualification. It clearly states that the rank is not to exceed lieutenant [major] general, not that either was a prerequisite.- cliffzdude, on 09/10/2008, -5/+6Alaska is just getting in line with what DC is doing:
"The National Guard Bureau in Washington, D.C. is considering an increase in rank for the bureau chief, from three-star to four-star. *** Increasing the rank from major general to lieutenant general *** will give the Alaska National Guard a jump start on this initiative and make our adjutant general more qualified and better received when working with issues back in Washington, D.C. An increase in rank will not impact the state budget and will not increase the adjutant general's salary as a state employee." - roryk27, on 09/10/2008, -0/+4ever heard the phrase be my little general?
its an easy way to remember the rank of generals.
1 star brigadier
2 star major
3 star lieutenant
4 star general
as you can see going from a three star to a four would not be the same as going from a major general to a lieutenant general - elhaf, on 09/10/2008, -0/+2Alaska created the choice to promote the head of their national guard to 3 stars. That doesn't mean they had to do it, and I'm positive this was held over his head. You get no promotion unless... It's just too convenient timing otherwise. No No, Yes, Promotion, in the space of a week.
- cliffzdude, on 09/10/2008, -5/+6Alaska is just getting in line with what DC is doing:

- zoeific, on 09/10/2008, -1/+8„This is an automatic promotion“
No. Read the actual text of HB 210 :
http://www.legis.state.ak.us/basis/get_bill_text.a ...
Nowhere does it state that the adjutant general of the Alaska National Guard had to be promoted automatically to lieutenant general. It merely says Alaska’s governor is free to do so.
“the Bureau Head in Washington was promoted to 4-star”
According to the National Guard homepage, the Chief of the National Guard Bureau, H Steven Blum, is still a lieutenant general (3-star):
http://www.ngb.army.mil/leaders/default.aspx
So why did Palin promote Craig Campbell to lieutenant general NOW rather than waiting for the Chief of the National Guard Bureau to be actually promoted from lieutenant general to 4-star general? At least her unusual haste warrants further investigation, doesn’t it?
“Digg becomes more pathetic and irrelevant by the day.”
If so, then you are part of the problem. Googling does not support your assertions.- AlvarHanso, on 09/10/2008, -0/+3I think the reason he was saying DIGG becomes more pathetic was because of the obvious one sidedness of all the stories that are posted on this site. I can clearly see that this is a left leaning site, but I still view it to get information that I do my own fact checking on. I personally think it's pathetic how people are struggling to dig up crap on Palin because she represents a true threat to Obama/Biden and it has them scared.
It's a bit ridiculous that people think they have to dig up dirt on them in the first place- you can find bad things about absolutely everyone, I guarantee it. No matter how much of a saint someone has been- it is far too easy to smear them by taking some specific item (such as this) and massaging it's context to give the desired appearance. Let me prove my point- out of all the posters/readers here, how many of you were privy to the actual decision making process used to determine whether or not the promotion would be given? ahh- none of you is my bet. So- before you rush to assume that he was promoted based on some implied reward for conforming behavior, don't assume you know that much.
Geez- I'm amazed at how many of you are acting like cattle being herded in one direction. Cmon- do some individual thinking and quit over-analyzing every bit of information to support some sort of idea or notion you have about a person. - fuse13, on 09/10/2008, -1/+0@AlvarHanso. Hi! I am from Earth. Here, all politicians pretty much try to dig up some dirt on each other and the press is all to happy to roll around in the mud as well. Palin is not particularly special. Look at what they did to John Kerry. McCain was getting it from his own team not so long ago.Obama vs Clinton.
Stop whining because Palin must run the same gauntlet everyone else has. She is getting hit hard not because she is a woman, but because she has seemingly come from nowhere, and the dirt diggers have some catching up to do.
I am not saying its right, I am just saying that this meme that she is being persecuted is stupid.

Google Alaska Bill HB 210, passed by the legislature last year. This is an automatic promotion caused by a structural change in the guard - the Bureau Head in Washington was promoted to 4-star, so the Major Generals in the states go from 2-star to 3-star.

I laughed at the RNC when Guiliani, Palin, Romney, and McCain blamed the liberals for the last 8 years. Typical Rove politics as usual. I got angry when McCain showed the towers falling on 9/11 as a ploy to begin another round of fear politics. I was furious when he tried to link Iran to 9/11 through the video. (The first attack was held in Iran with the American hostages...). The repubs still don't know who is our enemy or who we should attack. Finally, I tuned out when I realized that the message of the repubs was not this is what we will do to help you, but Obama this and Obama that. This isn't Bill O'Reilly, run on your own merits and your own positions and let the people decide who's the right choice. I don't need some stuffed shirt telling me who I should vote for, I'm smart enough to make my own decision. I don't fall for childish insults.
Obama may not have a lot of experience, but that makes him a true outsider, unlike McCain. The old boy network fears Obama not only because he's an outsider, but because he's an idealist. He believes he can make a difference. That scares the establishment.
McCain is a known quantity. They know how to deal with him and to manipulate him. They have already corrupted him as the McCain of 2000 is not the McCain of 2008.

- hangingchad, on 09/10/2008, -2/+3What kind of retarded response is that. Look at Obama's constituency. The democrats do not attract the rich. Democrats have traditional fought for social programs...welfare, social security, healthcare. The republicans are the ones who attract the rich with their tax cuts for the wealthiest. The republicans talk a good game pretending to support the small town man with their support of guns and religion, but when it comes to your economics and the ability to prosper, they make fools of you. They disdain the poor and middle class and increase your taxes. Special interest groups/big business is all that matters to them. Your job shifted overseas, too bad for you. If you ask me though, there isn't a single god damn politician out there that really deserves to be VP, let alone President. McCain sucks, and Barack sucks. It should be pretty ***** obvious by now, that these idiots are trained to tell you all what you want to hear so you'll vote for them. Once they're in office, they'll probably end up flip flopping on everything they promised.
For once, I'd like to here a presidential candidate say that they cant promise anything, but guarantee that they'll do their best. - Barackalypse, on 09/10/2008, -20/+7So what, lots of you liberals want to promote Senator Obama based on things he has said on tv too.
- ozel01, on 09/10/2008, -16/+7Where is the story? The General never changed anything he had said, never appoligized for any mischaracterizations or statements and really never changed anything he had said. All he did do was change the tone and a few words of what he had said. I don't see a reversal of anything as the title of this article suggests. In the first statement he said Sarah Palin was very engaged with the National Guard. In the second he expounded more on what her commander-in-chief duties entailed. This is certainly nothing more than an author injecting bogus information into a couple different statements to make a sordid attempt to build some form of bridge to make these two stories look contradictory. I don't see any contradiction. The difference in the two statements is about as different as me telling one person I bought a dozen apples and then telling the next person I bought a dozen very ripe red delicious apples that are absolutely delicious. No contradiction just more descriptive elements in the second.
- barktwiggs, on 09/10/2008, -0/+3How 'bout them apples!
- frankb00th, on 09/10/2008, -0/+2And the more descriptive elements change nothing of course.
"A man was killed last night" and " Last nightin a quiet suburb, a man minding his business was accosted by a stranger then stabbed repeatedly over a 100 times. The assailant chanted satanic ritual incantantions, then decapitated his victim and fled into the night. Sources have reported that the victim's family received a video cassette of the slaying and had to be treated for severe shock and trauma ensuing the viewing."
Indeed I can see how your carefully created theory holds together as well when applied to something less mundane than your perusing of your grocery's produce section. I'm also sure that my fictional assailant, if of course he hasn't committed suicide already upon emerging from of his peyote induced stupor, would and should be sentenced just the same. All of these useless adjectives and details are just padding or lies. My, my what things we can explain away using this line of thought- ozel01, on 09/10/2008, -0/+0And ultimately, the outcome is the same, a person was killed. Such is the case with the news article. The first stated hse was "very engaged" with the National Guard. Evidently the General falsely assumed people understand what those duties entail. When he realized many people really couldn't identify, he injected more descriptive terms, to give people like you a little clearer picture of exactly what those duties are. Unfortunately, people like you can't see the forest for the trees. Therefore, showing anything about things you refuse to see is useless.
- frankb00th, on 09/10/2008, -0/+2This is certainly nothing more than an author injecting bogus information into a couple different statements to make a sordid attempt to build some form of bridge to make these two stories look contradictory
(I also see what you did there with your injection of pure unbacked conjecture smack in the middle of your theory.Almost didn't catch that, but I did. You're essentially using the same method you're calling out.
Just so you know that some people notice and are not as stupid as you seem to assume.)

- Volkriot, on 09/10/2008, -12/+11As much as most of Digg exposes this woman and highlights her inexperience.
I think there is a sense of us operating in vacuum here.
I say this because even here in the Sf/Bay Area of California I have met many men and women who described her in very endearing term. Frankly, they love her. And the phenomenon is not negligible as national polls demonstrate.
Regardless of what we bring up on her politically we must realize elections are not decided on political issues for the majority of voters who are not on Digg, or do not even watch the news, for anything more than emotional stimulation (entertainment) and validation of their personal insular beliefs. Even if those beliefs are founded in lies handed down by a political party, such as the Republicans, who lie by omission of critical facts. One example of this being how they proclaim Palin being against the bridge to nowhere, but omit the fact that she was first for it. They manipulate the system and play all possible cards to defend themselves from criticism and make it very difficult to debunk their claims to the audience of first impressions. Meanwhile Obama keeps telling us "they think the American people are stupid." No Obama, they know the American people are stupid, they have a hand in making them that way.
The thing is the Republicans are doing what it takes to win. Whatever it takes to win. And though i must admit i feel an ambivalence towards thinking that Obama can win this. The Democrats take the political high road and their candidate refuses to address the cult of personality that the Republicans market like breakfast serial, to appeal to the majority of voting American who simply do not vote with their intellect. Like when Obama proclaimed that he would not comment on Palin's family because it was a private matter.
Now see the Republicans would find an outside organization to produce criticism of the nature of someone like Palin as a competent parent. Addressing her character as it relates to her leading the country. CHARACTER ASSASSINATION DEMOCRATS!
Republicans wage a political war on many fronts. Marketing their candidates and burying the opposition in character assassination, alienating them and making them seem alien to the average American (like comparing Obama to Paris Hilton). They scramble all their resources running both a campaign and a counter intelligence strategy to minimize the oppositions effect on the outcome. It is exactly like the tactics of warfare. And as we know, in war you must do all it takes to win.
The Republicans simply know how to win. They play all cards. Deploy insiders on all political battlefront and even form escape strategies when something goes sour. The Democrats just sit there telling us the other side is a big bully. Well no *****! Grow a pair and fight for us! Sling the *****, light the torches. Alienate them. and most importantly do it quietly, quickly, and brutally. In the words of Jon Stewart "***** on them!!"- Jude007, on 09/10/2008, -1/+3Very true, The repubs are very skilled at Politics, the demos not so, they think being nice is the answer, where as we all know nice guys finish last.
- representDLV, on 09/10/2008, -2/+2Democrats play the exact same games and use the exact same tactics as Republicans. Have you seen all the character assassination of Gov. Palin? Democrats have made Pres. Bush out to be worst than Hitler. C'mon. Neither party takes the high road. Both parties are in it to win it and will do whatever it takes to win. The reality is that this country is ideologically split down the middle, but the Republican base is a little more reliable on election day. The Democrats have to depend on the youth, minorities, and poor. None of which have proven to be dependable at the polls. Republicans have the religious, wealthy and rural. They are much more likely to actually go and vote.
- CourtesyFlush, on 09/10/2008, -1/+4Yes, the rampant ***** slinging seems to be working well for the Dems these days, wouldn't you say?

I am actually more worried about her and John McCain. I wouldn't doubt if she will just be waiting for John to die if they get into the white house. :(
- darkciti2, on 09/10/2008, -15/+13She's not news. She's the only card the republicans have to play. McCain is a dud, and they're trying to cash in on the Hillary/Obama infighting by playing to Hillary's audience.
Nothing says "I'm a follower" more than being a Republican[women should stay barefoot and pregnant] and picking a woman as a running-mate.
Republican McCain says he's pro-America, but he picked an unexperienced and neglectful mom to take over the US in the event that he dies (which is quite likely when you're 76).
Ignore her like we did mAnn Coultier and she'll go away. When she's out of the public conscious, the republicans will cry, "liberal media filtered her and didn't give her a chance to speak". However, they've been crying 'left media' since they started Fox tabloid-news channel, so it will fall on deaf ears.
Here's the Rove/repuglican strategy:
Listen to intelligent people (democrats), swap democrat for republican, and preach that to the masses via radical right wing radio and churches.
Republicans are shameless liars, thieves and failures.
They are re-applying for their job in November.
It's up to We The People to remind the "Republicans: We're sending your lies, hypocrisy, and failed leadership to a better facility - OFF OF US SOIL."- phoenixshard, on 09/10/2008, -0/+2"Politicians are shameless liars, thieves and failures."
There, corrected it for you. - Itsmechuck, on 09/10/2008, -1/+0***** Palin, and ***** greedy, dirty ass republicans.

- frankb00th, on 09/10/2008, -6/+6The following is from thread. I felt it should also be on the main.
This is essentially for anyone that uses Digg beyond personal agendas and purpose and whether we agree in views or not. Since the Olympics,I have been increasingly aware of the phenomenon of groupd of new users appearing out of nowhere and either thread spamming their views with cut and pasted meaninglessness or so called "burybrigades"
the clown mentioned below is actually dumb enough to advertise it. As far as I am concerned, such individuals by their actions, assure us that they are here for one purpose which is furthering their agenda. I don't know how I will react in advance to something I may read here. He does.
He will systematically bury anything that is against his way of thinking and his ass will be gone by november.
I am against such practices dem or lib no or pro choice etc. They are spam for opinions.Leaflets dropped from airplanes.

With this name and your join date Sept08 2008 , you essentially told me what your purpose on Digg is. It is not the purpose of why Digg exists. You will be reported firstly, just out of principle and also because issues such as abuse of the site by a minority of users vs long term users continued interest in the site are being discussed.
I've een coming here for way longer than my actual join date and this interest will also extend past november. And as such a user I really despise it when people, regardless of their affiliations, mess with something that I like. There are a lot of other users that also feel that way.
Do you feel US friend-o ?"- Itsmechuck, on 09/10/2008, -0/+0You think those who run digg will knock people off because of their "Join" date? This isn't a club, it's a business. They want as many users as possible. Get over it. It's tha intarwebz.
- frankb00th, on 09/11/2008, -0/+1I don't have such hopes but one can try.
As for expressing my opinion, I won't "get over it".
But do feel free to take comfort in apathy if it works for you.

Is there anything republicans won't do to get "elected"?- Egoist, on 09/10/2008, -2/+3You just described yourself.
- SailingAlien, on 09/10/2008, -1/+2Be able to argue with someone like yourself who basis his argument in ignorance?
- Itsmechuck, on 09/10/2008, -1/+1Nope, we all know the republican ticket is full of bias, censorship, ignorance and propaganda. Look at history, hell look at the recent history (these 8 years). If the ***** doesn't stick out to you, then you might need to go and see your optometrist.
- frankb00th, on 09/11/2008, -0/+1Hehehe yeah and whenever I make a point to a rep, they just come running to stupefy me with their debating skills.
It's gotten disapointing.
- lopla, on 09/10/2008, -8/+7I'd say that's a pretty big gaffe.
- mikolupi, on 09/10/2008, -10/+5Please, No one cares. No matter what bad stories come out about Palin my grandma and her friends will vote for, making her the next VP. I don't need to remind everyone, my granma and her friends don't use or care about the computers.
- JSDigger, on 09/10/2008, -11/+14Sarah Palin is not the type of person who will make a good Vice President. She values her Christian ideology over the Constitution.
