Obama picks up 9 superdelegates, union endorsement
news.yahoo.com — Barack Obama all but erased Hillary Rodham Clinton's once-imposing lead among national convention superdelegates on Friday and won fresh labor backing as elements of the Democratic Party began coalescing around the Illinois senator for the fall campaign.

- Barackalypse, on 05/10/2008, -17/+2No, I truly believe Bush has done such a horrible job that there are masses of disenfranchised dellusional masses that want to buy into a messiah to save them. Except the best the Democrats had to offer is another liberal lawyer Senator spouting the same old Democratic talking points.
- SpudgeBoy, on 05/10/2008, -2/+13Well, Captain Obvious, he is a Democrat. Do you expect him to spout Republican talking points?
- Barackalypse, on 05/10/2008, -11/+2No, but for all I keep hearing him blather on about change, I thought perhaps he was going to suggest some new ideas, instead of just dragging out the same old failed Democratic policies. Thus far the only change I can detect is in the rhetoric being used to fool the people this time around. You'd think after being snowjobed by Nancy Pelosi and the 110th Congress (of which Obama is a member mind you) the Democratic voters might be a bit more careful.
- theaceoffire, on 05/10/2008, -0/+1O.o does New Ideas != Change in your world?

Wouldn't that require no new ideas?

- whodoes, on 05/10/2008, -0/+1He wanted the Democrats to become Republicans, i guess. Im not sure why they would where both the American people (and reality) have rejected the policies and philosophies of the current iteration of the Republican party. Polls show that when it comes to policy the American people lean far left.

OBAMA FAILS!!!(Seriously, he does.)
- brad3378, on 05/10/2008, -4/+12I don't think you're all Obama-bots - but I have to admit that I'm a bit disappointed that stories about his official platform aren't more popular than stories about non-issues such as the Rev. Wright Scandal.
Here's a shameless plug for a Pro-Obama story taken directly from his official website.
http://digg.com/political_opinion/Obama_s_Blueprin ... - TunaFishGangsta, on 05/10/2008, -3/+8Keep in mind, the young people support Obama. The old-timers are the ones that support Clinton or McCain. --- So what we have here are a bunch of kids on the that use digg. It's actually quite plausible.
- blackinthmiddle, on 05/10/2008, -0/+1Well, young *educated* people support Obama. I think that's an important distinction. So the people who generally know what's going on and keep up with each candidate are voting for Barack. The uneducated people who "want a woman in the white house before they die" are voting for Hillary. Basically, her snow job hasn't worked on anyone who's thinking. Says a lot, really.
- renegadeafk, on 05/10/2008, -1/+2I support Obama and I've been on digg since before these primaries even started.
- Nore, on 05/10/2008, -9/+1Obama-bots? Yep, basically.
- Goodanswer, on 05/10/2008, -0/+1I thought we were called paul-bots... after all if you go back and look but then they silenced our Dr, Paul.. making it totally impossible for any sense to come forward, but somehow Obama inspired millions of people to actually say yes we can. Which is hope and change, and that to me is inspiring. I have now started to hear what he has said and while i agree on most of what he says of course you wont ever agree on everything, but hey , its a start to make change right... and who doesnt want to change to be right?
- Noureddin, on 05/10/2008, -2/+3You know whats funny? Paul supporters are called bots and obama supporters are not. when its the opposite. - NyteStarNyne, on 05/10/2008, -0/+4That's not what she said.
- Barackalypse, on 05/10/2008, -11/+1Well, electing Obama means a nice steady stream of illegals continuing to cross our Southern borders, and you'll definately get a flood of additional government spending, but I bet you'll still be gushing what a great guy Obama is.
- Lazydriver, on 05/10/2008, -1/+6Unfortunately, rednecks like you fail to understand that YOU JUST ABSOLUTELY ***** CAN'T STOP MILLIONS OF PEOPLE FROM SNEAKING IN 3000 MILES OF BORDER TO GET A JOB!!!!
A job they'd have equal wages for, if you weren't so keen to deport them. Think about it: They're Mexicans. They like partying and working hard. And they damn well would like equal wages if it weren't for the fact they'd get deported if they asked for it.
Luckily for you, Obama agrees with both sides.... And so, borders get protected and Mexicans have a way-easier time getting legal without being held up in FBI background checks for YEARS (sometimes DECADES.) And you wonder why we have so many illegal immigrants?- Barackalypse, on 05/10/2008, -4/+3Thanks for the name calling, that was a classy addition to the discourse, and I guess we've changed the definition of redneck from when I was little to include anyone who doesn't agree with an open unsecured border, because I'm a college educated Midwesterner who doesn't watch Nascar, doesn't drink beer, drive a pickup truck, ***** my relatives, hunt, or own a dog. Anyway, on to your point, according to the DHS our border patrol stops over a million people a year from entering: http://www.dhs.gov/xlibrary/assets/statistics/publ ...
Imagine what a 3,000 mile fence and some national guard deployed will be able to do. You are seriously naive if you think in 2008 with the technology and military power we have available to us that we can't stop the majority of the people trying to illegally cross our border if we decide it is a priority.- theaceoffire, on 05/10/2008, -0/+1"Don't call me names you naive person!"

- theaceoffire, on 05/10/2008, -0/+1"Don't call me names you naive person!"
- jdmcadam, on 05/10/2008, -1/+4So is this a free fence and volunteer guards, or would that be a flood of government spending?
- masterm1nd, on 05/10/2008, -1/+1Actually you can stop people from coming here. You can physically block the border, and you can remove the incentive/motive to come here. I don't know why anyone would logically support illegal immigration, other than the obvious.
- Noureddin, on 05/10/2008, -0/+1We can. Not at the state america is in now. We bring the troops home and defend our boarders. Simple.

- SpudgeBoy, on 05/10/2008, -1/+7Yeah, because it hasn't been the Republicans that in the last 7 years spent more money than ALL of the previous administrations COMBINED.
Do you really think everybody is as dumb as you?- masterm1nd, on 05/10/2008, -3/+1You'd have to adjust the numbers for inflation for it to be meaningful. I would think the worst attack on American soil ever plus the worst natural disaster on American soil ever would fudge the numbers a little.
- Chandon, on 05/10/2008, -0/+3Sure. But that wasn't the question. The question was: How does Obama *differ* from the other candidates?
- theaceoffire, on 05/10/2008, -0/+2Evil doesn't flow from his eyes like fine wine?

- Barackalypse, on 05/10/2008, -14/+3Look at his Senate voting record (when he was actually present and actually cast a yes or no vote). You want someone who voted to re-authorize the Patriot Act and continue funding the Iraq war to be President, because after the last 8 years of a guy like that I'd figure you'd want some change.

http://obama.senate.gov/speech/051215-senate_floor ...- Barackalypse, on 05/10/2008, -4/+03 Democrats and an independent in the Senate along with 124 Democrats, 13 Republicans, and 1 independent in the House had the courage to do the right thing on this. Mr. Hope and Change along with Clinton towed the Bush party line on this bill. Obama's defense on this amounts to basically "well, its better than nothing". I guess the good news is he's serious about the unity thing, the bad news is he'll sell out principle to get it.

- brad3378, on 05/10/2008, -2/+3It's a great time to be a baby boomer:
Obama's policy would impose a 60-percent increase in lifetime Social Security payroll taxes for some young voters. College-educated workers would lose the most under his plan, since their future earnings are likely to remain above Social Security's maximum taxable limit for most of their careers.

- Barackalypse, on 05/10/2008, -19/+7A union, endorsing a Democrat, surely this story warrants a "Breaking" in the title. ***** unions, they're the reason my tv schedule is 4 months out of whack.
- provost, on 05/10/2008, -6/+13They are also the reason that you have food in your grocery store.. the reason that you have steel in your products, they fight for the idea of equitable pay and treatment for all citizens. You dont like them? why dont you go to china or iraq where unions are illegal and see how you like it in your 'utopian paradise'.
maybe after a month you will have enough money saved to call me and tell me how its going.
God forbid your tv schedule is messed up.- headzoo, on 05/10/2008, -7/+5Isn't all the food and steel now made in China? Way to go unions!
- Barackalypse, on 05/10/2008, -3/+8Seriously, without a union there wouldn't be steel or food in my grocery store? You ever hear of Nucor steel? Over $16 billion in yearly sales and still union free, have a look: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nucor
No as to food in the store, most of the farm labor force are undocumented workers, and thus not represented by a union. So I guess you might be referring to the truckers or railroads that ship the food, but guess what, there are union free shippers, such as Southeaster Freight Lines. http://www.sefl.com
Unions don't get things done, they stand in the way of getting things done. Just like monopolies by companies cause higher prices, monopolies in labor supply cause the same thing. Having worked as a supply chain management and production control consultant at various manufacturing plants for most of the last 8 years (including Nucro steel), the two biggest reasons I have heard for NOT being able to do something are Sarbanes Oxley and the unions. As I am sure you've figured out by now, based on your mentioning China, your union workers aren't as indispensable as you think they are.- dkm201, on 05/10/2008, -3/+6Unions look out for their members, since corporations don't.

- taradisiac, on 05/10/2008, -7/+1There were better ways for the writers to handle their demands. A strike made them look like jerks and their slogans were more in our face than the producers'. Only bleeding heart liberals would support unions no matter what.
- SpudgeBoy, on 05/10/2008, -2/+7And only a retarded Republican that votes against thier own best interest would be againt unions, so we are even.
- dkm201, on 05/10/2008, -1/+8Thank God for the WGA. How do you suggest we get what we were asking for, other than to deny our services?
- Stochio, on 05/10/2008, -0/+4To me, it's not a matter of unions are good or unions are bad. Unions should be a voluntary arrangement that have no special privileges nor restrictions from the law.
- freddc, on 05/10/2008, -0/+5However, there is a conflict when business can turn it into a predictable war of attrition, with law stacked in their favor.
- Fordi, on 05/10/2008, -4/+5Ah, yes. The most important thing in your life. TV. That explains your apparent IQ.
- masterm1nd, on 05/10/2008, -2/+7Why did you infer TV is the most important thing in this life? That explains...
- Fordi, on 05/10/2008, -2/+1You fail at reading comprehension.
- masterm1nd, on 05/10/2008, -1/+7Are you sure it's me and not you?
- Fordi, on 05/11/2008, -2/+1*looks over conversation* Absolutely certain.
- masterm1nd, on 05/11/2008, -0/+2Ahh yes, relying on failed reading comprehension to judge your own reading comprehension. Interesting.
- Fordi, on 05/11/2008, -1/+1If the question is whose comprehension is faulty, yours or mine, then neither of our assertions are internally valid. In short, either of us could be relying on our faulty reading comprehension to self-validate. By bringing up that point, you've rendered this thread section worthless.
Meanwhile, since you're obviously not going to go away without a valid argument: my original comment was not that TV was the most important thing in 'this' life, as you stated, but in OP's life, as he implied (that is, "***** unions, they're the reason my tv schedule is 4 months out of whack.", implying that TV is more important than, say, workers' wages). You then stated that I inferred otherwise.
In short, yes, you failed. The only thing worse than an idiot is an insistent idiot. - masterm1nd, on 05/11/2008, -0/+1'This' was a typo for 'his'. You fail for not realizing that.
- Fordi, on 05/12/2008, -0/+1You could have pointed that out earlier - you'd have retained credibility in your little flame war.
Since 'his' and 'this' are equally valid, grammatically, it's a reasonable notion that 'this' was intentional. That you did not note that three comments ago suggests that you're more backpedaling than noting a correction.
Dunno about you, but I tend to read my comments before hitting the 'submit comment' button.

- caponumen, on 05/10/2008, -15/+2LOL, as noted above, this spam has a distinctly ass flavored aftertaste to it.
Too gay for me and I have busts of both Gilbert and Sullivan......... - btsmu, on 05/10/2008, -12/+0what if it is not Hillary who wont quit, but Bill, who has dreams of being the V.P. perhaps?? Then in 8 years Chelsea will be ready for her 8 yr stint....And we threw out King George and the monarchy?? or did we?? btsmu
- LStone, on 05/10/2008, -2/+14Who's the moron that went with Clinton?
- blackinthmiddle, on 05/10/2008, -0/+1Rep. Chris Carney from Pennsylvania. I guess he's worried more about his own ass (since Penn. mostly voted for Clinton) and figures Obama will win anyway.
- anbudom, on 05/10/2008, -0/+5I give it at least 7 days, Hillary will come up with a "face-saving" retirement speech. But behind the scenes she's still holding out for something more....for Obama camp to buy her out, debts et al.
- tcbishop12, on 05/10/2008, -0/+3I agree she'll probably give it a go through Oregon. But as to holding out for a better deal: Sen. Obama doesn't have to make any deal at this point out of panic or fear. Hillary should learn to live with the disappointment that comes from running a campaign in the kneecapping, deceitful, disingenuous manner in which she conducted hers, which will prove to be both a strong reality check and a good character builder for the junior senator from New York. While $20 million is an unimaginable chunk of change for most of us, let's be clear, everyone, that Bill and Hillary Clinton can certainly afford to pay their own campaign debts.
- junkwheel, on 05/10/2008, -8/+3"The notion that there's only gold at the end of the rainbows which come out of my ass is being perpetuated by people stuck in the folklore of the past. I'm the folklore of the future! At the end of my rainbows there be dragons!" - Barack Obama
- jontalisman, on 05/10/2008, -13/+2It doesn't matter if Obama has a million super delegates if he can't win the white vote in the general election. Stay tuned for President McCain... *sigh*
- diggnatious, on 05/10/2008, -1/+2"Argue for your limitations and sure enough their yours..." If your only argument against Barack is your belief that he can't win enough votes to win the election means you don't BELIEVE he can win which means YOU are part of the problem. The central message of the Obama campaign is to believe in the POSSIBILITY that change can happen and then be that change. Capisce?
- jontalisman, on 05/10/2008, -1/+1Wow, so if we all just believe then magic will happen? Um, sounds like you've been smoking the bong a little too long, my friend.
- absurdist, on 05/10/2008, -0/+1OK, Jon, I've asked you this question before, and received only the sound of crickets in response. If, by some incredible twist of fate and perversion of the process, Hillary gets the nomination, I'll vote for her, if only for the possibility of who McSame will appoint to the Supreme Court. Can you make the same claim about Barack? Or are you so blinded by your allegiance to Hillary that you'd condemn the country to another four years of failed Bush policies?

- Chip53, on 05/10/2008, -7/+1No military experience, in the senate less than 4 years, seems to think there are 57 states? Oh yeah,... he's just what we need.
- geffo, on 05/10/2008, -0/+2from recent history.
g bush jr the national guard war hero.
h clinton the Bosnia veteran.
b clinton the ehmn overseas student.
a president/leader that actually listens to his generals is what most other western nations make do with, seems to work. - Jforsyth89, on 05/10/2008, -0/+4He used the word "state" instead of "states and territories." There are, in fact, more than 50 democratic primaries. When EVERYTHING you say is being recorded, this really is a small slip-up.
- paininthebrain, on 05/10/2008, -1/+1yes chip. i like your girl as well. she blows up her resume, sees things that aren't there, let's her husband sleep with the help while she guns for his job. maybe hill-billy(hillary & bill) are your kind of people. I prefer someone a little more real please.
- geffo, on 05/10/2008, -0/+2from recent history.
- linuxpenguin, on 05/10/2008, -6/+3There needs to be a filter feature on Digg. I'm sure I'm not the only person on Digg who doesn't give a damn about who is endorsing Obama.
- doyoumrjones, on 05/10/2008, -1/+2There already is!
- blackinthmiddle, on 05/10/2008, -0/+2Bury the article and move on if you don't want to see it. You don't want to see it, yet you actually took the time to comment on it?
- linuxpenguin, on 05/10/2008, -0/+1Seems like I do that every day, and then the next day there's another article about it on the frontpage.
- PamalaLauren, on 05/10/2008, -0/+2Maybe you need to refresh your memory of the capabilities this website has.
- linuxpenguin, on 05/10/2008, -0/+1I don't think so. . . every time a story like this hits the frontpage, there's no way I can filter it from being seen.
Maybe you're talking about burying it. I do that, and then the next day there's another article about who endorses Obama on the frontpage where I can see it. Having to do this all the time is annoying.
- linuxpenguin, on 05/10/2008, -0/+1I don't think so. . . every time a story like this hits the frontpage, there's no way I can filter it from being seen.
- thanakar, on 05/10/2008, -4/+1So ***** what, can't wait for november to come and go and all this political bs to be over with finally.
- jana67, on 05/10/2008, -2/+2Food for thought, thinking not listening to what big media embeds in your mind everyday...http://www.squidoo.com/obamavideoshowcase
- jchaz, on 05/10/2008, -0/+2I want to take a moment and savor this. A grassroots elected democratic presidential candidate who is African American, middle name Hussein, young, unifying, left leaning and good looking. OMG. And he says we are who we have been waiting for. Brilliant. How fun is this???
- AxmxZ, on 05/10/2008, -0/+0And a law school professor. He seems to be the absolute anti-thesis of Bush. I hope they never come together to shake hands - they might blow up the Universe.
- jchaz, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1Youre right. A Professor of Constitutional Law no less. Will they have to shake hands some place. That makes me a little sick just thinking about it.
- AxmxZ, on 05/10/2008, -0/+0And a law school professor. He seems to be the absolute anti-thesis of Bush. I hope they never come together to shake hands - they might blow up the Universe.
- transcendsmas, on 05/11/2008, -0/+1Wow, lots of "hate" Hillary on here today! There's no need to hate her she is old politics coming to an end. She campaigned the only way she knew how. I don't like it, but I don't hate anyone. Obama tells the truth to voters. The truth is the light. He will be our next president. Now we have McCain who is also old politics. He won't win! This generation has progressed in our information technology. Obama capitalized on this (brilliant man). McCain is lost in front of a computer (LOL). Let's do our best to keep emotions in check and stand with Obama "the optimist."
