barakobamanation.blogspot.com — Obama expresses his "frustration" for the relationship between African Americans and Jews and talks of a rift between the two that he calls "natural."

- MacBigot, on 05/14/2008, -3/+9I'm sorry, but your title is inaccurate.
"One of the things that is frustrating about the recent conversations on Israel is the loss of what I think is the natural affinity between the African-American community and the Jewish community..."
In that excerpt, their "affinity" for one another is "natural," NOT the rift between the two communities.- onthewriteside, on 05/14/2008, -7/+4He said "LOSS" of affinity" I think that qualifies as a riff. So I think the paraphrase in the title is pretty darn accurate.
- MacBigot, on 05/14/2008, -2/+6I'll never vote for Obama, but you weaken the case against him with this kind of inaccuracy. Diagram the sentence if you must, but in the end you'll see "natural" modifies "affinity" and not "loss."
- onthewriteside, on 05/14/2008, -5/+3Excuse me for failing to "diagram" the sentence when I submitted it to digg. I was in a hurry. Maybe I should have said "estranged" but to say it helps Obama in any way is a stretch and unnecessary. I thought it was a worthy submission b/c for a candidate who stumps unification he sure talks a whole lot about separation. If anything has helped Obama its your nitpick blasting of a title.
- MacBigot, on 05/15/2008, -1/+3If I blasted you, I would not have been as polite as I was. You have truth on your side. You don't need to stoop to inaccuracies to brig to light the very real reasons for concerns about Obama, and you sure don't need to attack your allies, like myself, for holding you to the journalistic standards you should have for yourself. You'd be much wiser simply to say "I misread that. I apologize. That won't happen again," and move on with the genuinely disturbing remarks and contradictions Obama's uttered.
- allisonrose870, on 05/14/2008, -2/+3Not to step on any one's toes, but I must agree with your critique.
Based on my own experiences, I reckon there's more affinity and less of a rift b/t the religious Jews and Blacks. In NYC, there are many neighborhoods shared by the religious/orthodox Jews and Blacks. Except for some polarizing cases in recent decades, like Crown Heights, historically, Jews and Blacks have lived side-by-side without much problem or controversy.
Its only recently where the racism card gets passed around like a hot potato and with the black communities embracing Islam and converting to Muslim (which obviously breeds contempt for Israel) that these relations have come to be strained. Otherwise, with a shared history of persecution and being a minority, both have learned to live together quite harmoniously.- ncairns, on 05/15/2008, -2/+2Islam does not breed contempt for Israel. Like all religion it *does* tend to breed contempt for reality, but what breeds contempt for Israel (or Judaism) is the same thing that breeds contempt for Palestine (or Islam) - stupidity.

I'm certainly disappointed to learn someone or some group, with whom I sympathize, is doing it. I think Digg should be an online community of individuals and NOT a sewer rife with special interest groups and paid political operatives using it to shape public opinion. I have, on numerous occasions, lambasted the editors of ThinkProgress.org for using Digg solely to drive traffic to their site and win support for their cause (another practice I'd consider to be a TOS violation). However, to be fair, at least each of ThinkProgress' editors maintain an individual Digg ID through which you can track their activities (see examples below):
