Obama Gets His Bounce
huffingtonpost.com — In the first sign that voters are coalescing around Barack Obama as the Democratic nominee, two daily tracking polls notice a widening of the gap over his Republican rival John McCain. Both Gallup and Rasmussen now have Obama holding a gap of 6% over McCain.

- CrazyZ, on 06/10/2008, -10/+4For that change that has no real backbone or clear cut goals, for that change that is well.....change, but never actually explained what change this change is about...?....
- isaactwito, on 06/10/2008, -1/+6No backbone or clear cut goals? Do you support McCain then? - kuantan97, on 06/10/2008, -13/+8And what "change" might that be, friend? More kowtowing to the Israeli lobby? More saber rattling towards Iran?...sucker.
- Archer007, on 06/10/2008, -4/+2Republicans kicked Libertarian ideas in the groin and the Democrats have always been for the expansion of Fed power. I'm voting for Bob Barr, thank you.

backbone, clear cut goals, Israeli lobby, I'm voting for Bob Barr, negative slant on the word "change". We don't need a lesson on reverse psychology
I wouldn't normaly justify you trolls, but try not to be so trolly, if you want to do your trolly thing. And I'm not really talking to you trolls,
There is a rush of these comments coming out currently at a range of 26 to 9 minutes ago. This is not the people's voice kids.- CrazyZ, on 06/10/2008, -0/+3The hell it ain't. The more Obama opens his mouth the more people are seeing that he is not about change. He's about the status quo with a shiny new veneer. He's nothing and neither is McCain. Pick whichever one you want, it won't "change" a thing.
Obama has you all fooled.

- Elranzer, on 06/10/2008, -1/+4The sad thing is that the gap is still only 6%. It's amazing that there are that many people who would still vote for a Republican after the last 8 years of ***** (because they have done such a good job!)
- CrazyZ, on 06/10/2008, -1/+2Who has controlled the house and senate over the last several years? Where to bills etc. come from? Yep the Dems have been doing a great job also......(rolls eyes).

- acroyear2, on 06/10/2008, -2/+2The black community has historically voted democratic. Added to that Bush is an assholeblicans and so the nation is tired of repu. Added to that Obama is black! and we're all the better for it. So there.
- Gerz1219, on 06/10/2008, -2/+2Kerry got 88% of the black vote in 2004 against George Bush.
But wait, during primary season, there was a black candidate named Al Sharpton. Obviously the racist monolithic black people would have voted overwhelmingly for him, right?
Except in the South Carolina primary, John Edwards won 37% of the black vote, John Kerry got 34%, and Sharpton received only 17%.
John Kerry and John Edwards don't look black to me... - dan.stryker, on 06/11/2008, -0/+1Black people know Sharpton is just another Jesse Jackson wannabe...
Did Kerry and Edwards win???? Can't win on the "black vote" alone... - Gerz1219, on 06/11/2008, -1/+2So black people didn't vote for Al Sharpton because they thought he was an inferior candidate? It's almost like black people support Obama because they think he's a good candidate and not just because he's black.
- dan.stryker, on 06/18/2008, -0/+1Get your head out of the sand, 90% of the black vote is voting barack hussein obama because he is blacker than mccain... It's as simple as that...

People are really tired of the current economy, tired of the lies about the unnecessary war, tired of the unbalanced republican budget, tired of the prospect of 5 dollars gas, tired of families working full time and cutting down on their groceries. The primaries are over! If you want real change from these failed policies help Obama become our next president.

- DenaL, on 06/10/2008, -6/+19When Hillary's supporters, independents, and thinking Republicans examine Barack Obama's stand on the issues and realize that he will be the first President not owing anything to PACS or lobbyists, I am confident this gap will widen into a landslide victory in November for Obama. Obama will restore the democratic process to the people and end the strangle-hold of wealthy interest groups.
- kuantan97, on 06/10/2008, -8/+7Guess you didn't catch your messiah genuflacting before AIPAC: http://www.thedailyshow.com/video/index.jhtml?vide ...

- FairDinkumMate, on 06/10/2008, -0/+4First of all - AIPAC is not a PAC!
Secondly, of course Obama(& any political candidate for that matter) is going to talk to interest groups. The issue is whether they take money from the organisation. If Obama doesn't, then he "will be the first President not owing anything to PACS or lobbyists" as DenaL stated.- kuantan97, on 06/10/2008, -4/+1"When Hillary's supporters, independents, and thinking Republicans examine Barack Obama's stand on the issues and realize that he will be the first President not owing anything...lobbyists."
Genius, AIPAC is the second biggest lobby in the empire after AARP. If he doesn't lick boots there will be no "change we can believe in," no second coming.
- kuantan97, on 06/10/2008, -4/+1"When Hillary's supporters, independents, and thinking Republicans examine Barack Obama's stand on the issues and realize that he will be the first President not owing anything...lobbyists."
- poxonyou, on 06/10/2008, -0/+4Everyone, who has a chance of becoming president, panders to AIPAC. It sucks ass, but somehow they came to represent the "Jewish vote". Piss off AIPAC, watch your Jewish voters vanish. The only way to remedy this pro-Israel problem is for a non-Zionist pro-Jewish interest group to take over as the interest group representing Jewish Americans. Don't expect a politician, who actually wants to win, to be that bold.
If it means anything, Obama is seen as the weakest of the 3 in being pro-Israel.- rz8472, on 06/10/2008, -0/+1There is one that arose this year called "J Street"... it's only about 1% as powerful as AIPAC though.
I didn't like Obama's AIPAC speech and I didn't like that double USA/Israel flag lapel pin he put up (obvious pandering) but unfortunately that's just the political atmosphere we have right now. Chuck Hagel is one of the few politicians not beholden to AIPAC, and was one of the few to call for a ceasefire for the Israel-Lebanon conflict of 2006. I hope he is appointed Secretary of State.

They break the government
Government does work

They break the government
Government does work
I vote for people that think the government doesn't work

Now is that Change we can believe in? Remember, he chose the gang infested, muslim sympathizing, black liberation, white hating church in Chicagoland to begin his "clean cut" rise to power. Oh sure, this is change we can believe in- change Washington DC to Chicago style politics.
Undigg all you like, Obama supporters don't want to see the truth, they want to see a vision and a dream, nice ideas, wrong man. - trixterIreland, on 06/10/2008, -2/+7Remember though, historically the GOP candidate is down before the RNC when that happens they get a boost. So he may have a lead now, kerry had a lead 4 years ago until the RNC.
http://www.electoral-vote.com tracks many polls, some by universities, some by polling companies, and they put it all together so you can get a feel for things. They also tell you which polls they used, let you download the data, you can compare that against the sites that generated it, they explain how they do the maps so you can verify those results too. In that regard its not biased, since all they are doing is relaying the polling data.
The kerry/bush graph of opinions based on polling data is at http://www.electoral-vote.com/evp2008/Pres/ec_grap ... if you want to use it for date/time reference to what is going on this year.- P0peRatz0, on 06/10/2008, -3/+0If you haven't figured out that this is a year where previous trends aren't going to apply, then there's not much help for you.
Remember, there's going to be another bump after the DNC convention. You may not like it, trixterIreland, but your next president is going to be a black man. But don't worry, the world won't end.- trixterIreland, on 06/10/2008, -0/+4I live in Amsterdam, we have a Queen, where is this president you speak of? The handle implies ireland, where I moved from, not many blacks in politics in ireland.
So when exactly is my next president going to be a black man? And which one? It wont be obama that is for sure, even if he wins the US election I dont live there.
Further some of the bumps *will* follow historical trends, to claim otherwise is silly. Obama got a bump after the decision that he would be the nominee, coincidence? When the DNC happens, its likely he will get another bump. When the RNC happens its likely McCain will get a bump, so likely in fact that it would be suprising if it didnt happen. - lajaw, on 06/10/2008, -2/+1Only a half black man. He should know better than that.- Deanblackoak, on 06/10/2008, -1/+2Man, can you read. That's not what he said.
- digitronix, on 06/10/2008, -0/+1you're in denial. Yes, he did say those things. You must not have read his AIPAC speech.
- Deanblackoak, on 06/10/2008, -1/+2Man, can you read. That's not what he said.
- gerbil20, on 06/10/2008, -10/+6May be Obamination is better for America in the long run. The economy is strong enough to survive one term of his presidency, but in post-Obama America people will know better than to vote a democrat into a position of power for a long long time. Hell, the abolishment of the democratic party will make his presidency worthwhile regardless of the damage he will unleash on his naive countrymen.
- CarStan, on 06/10/2008, -0/+12I agree with you. I still remember in horror the economic groth and positive budget the last democratic president left behind.
If it weren't for George W. and his doubling of the nations debt and huge increase in public spending i cant imagine in what a horrible shape the state would be in right now.- lajaw, on 06/10/2008, -4/+1I want both of you to please explain to me how the president controls the economy. Taxes and government spending and regulation. That's it. And most of that has to come from the congress. I'm tired of people blaming or giving credit for an economy that the president had nothing much to do with.
- CarStan, on 06/10/2008, -0/+3It's right that you can't atribute the good economy solely to the Clinton administration (although his VP Al Gore helped the internet to become as big as it was in the late 90's). But they did great in balancing the budget.
On the other side, you CAN blame the Bush administration for their horrifying spending policy and the exorbitant inrease in military spending. With a president Al Gore the USA would definately not be in Iraq today, therefore have a much more balanced budget. And with it, the fed would be fitted much better to react to the current economic crisis than it is now. With a smart president who actually knows something about economy (and isn#t dependent on shadowy lobbysts that advidse him like MCCain) maybe the foreclosure crises could have been foreseen earlier (not prevented, but the gov, could have intervened earlier).
An other example is the energy crisis. It has been a fact for years that the oil price will rise, and that it is essential to invest in new echnologies and (more important) to uodate the current once and make them more efficient. If you believe in Global warming or not, it is essential to lower the consumtion of fossil fuels no matter what, because the prices will continue to climb from now on forever. With a Gore administration the USA would in a position considering energy consumption and prices. And Lower gas/fuel consumption won't have such a bad influence on the economy either.
- CarStan, on 06/10/2008, -0/+12I agree with you. I still remember in horror the economic groth and positive budget the last democratic president left behind.

you think that's a good thing?
I think America is screwed with attitudes like this.
The health industrial complex is going to eat the country alive. - Prosequi, on 06/10/2008, -0/+1We could probably generalize a bit more and say that Obama places handouts before the economy - what with him proposing another round of rebate checks.
http://digg.com/business_finance/Obama_Give_econom ...
There is nothing in politics right now that turns my off more than rebate checks.

- Barackalypse, on 06/10/2008, -9/+6How many of you Obama supporters know he co-sponsored a housing bill that creates a national fingerprint registry? Why would people involved in real estate or mortages, not convicted of any crime, need to send their fingerprints in to the government?

I hope those of you capable of independent thought add this together with his vote to re-authorize the Patriot Act and realize Obama is really just a statist hack.- zephyear, on 06/10/2008, -0/+2yes i know about both
and to be fair on the patriot act, it was going to get passed anyway, he helped declaw it a bit.- kuantan97, on 06/10/2008, -3/+2Let's imagine congress proposing a bill that outlaws free speech. If Obama gave a "yea," would he be absolved simply because "it was going to get passed anyway"?
- EtherGnat, on 06/10/2008, -0/+1Who benefits you more?
Person A who votes against a law that passes 99-1.
Person B who doesn't like the law, but rather than just voting against it works to make it less heinous.
Person A might give you warm fuzzies, but Person B accomplished more and IMO that's better politics. At any rate that's not the choice we have. What we're actually faced with is two candidates (that have a legitimate shot) who both voted for the act--only one of whom did *anything* about it. Between the two the choice should be clear. - kuantan97, on 06/11/2008, -0/+1"Person B" benefits you more by being an accessory to a crime? Of course, "working to make it less heinous" is an entirely arbitrary call and must, at least, be explained in greater depth.
Why not try to counter the bill by building momentum against it? Why not try to repeal?
As the so-called Patriot Act is unconstitutional, "Person B" just ignored his oath to support and defend the Constitution. What other constitutional clauses might he concede to the ambitious? - wojtyk, on 06/12/2008, -0/+0Person B who then votes like Person A. There's no reason you can't work to make something less heinous and still vote against the result...many do, everyday. And frankly, the Dems _had_ the numbers in Congress. It would have been mindlessly trivial to stop the Patriot Act from being reauthorized. They chose not to, and YES I hold that against them (_and_ Obama)
- EtherGnat, on 06/10/2008, -0/+1Who benefits you more?
- lajaw, on 06/10/2008, -1/+1So he still agreed with most of it. He is still a hack for that. What, you don't like freedom?
- kuantan97, on 06/10/2008, -3/+2Let's imagine congress proposing a bill that outlaws free speech. If Obama gave a "yea," would he be absolved simply because "it was going to get passed anyway"?
- xexx, on 06/10/2008, -0/+2Personally I agree with the fingerprint registry, it could help solve thousands of crimes.
- kuantan97, on 06/10/2008, -2/+1Of course you do. Because you're a government apologist with nary a lick of skepticism.
- lajaw, on 06/10/2008, -3/+1There you go. Another one who wants equality but not freedom. We are doomed as a country because of all this leftist b.s.
- EtherGnat, on 06/10/2008, -0/+2...because it's only those on the left that want to do things like that. /extreme sarcasm
- xexx, on 06/11/2008, -0/+1More like I don't like the idea of murderers and criminals going free when we could easily solve them.
- zephyear, on 06/10/2008, -0/+2yes i know about both
- xexx, on 06/10/2008, -0/+4Am I the only one who think these polls are even less than accurate and Obama will be favored far more when it's actually time to vote? It's one thing to respond to a poll question when asked but it's another to get off your butt and spend hours in the line waiting to vote. It seems from the party nominations that democrats got out to vote almost 2 to 1 compared to republicans and I think this will easily translate to the November elections, perhaps not quite as big of a margin, but I think I'd definitely want to be the democratic nominee this election... I'll be surprised if this election doesn't end in a landslide for Obama.
- lajaw, on 06/10/2008, -0/+1If he does win in a landslide, you 'd better hope the Republicans take the congress again. A deadlocked government is good for liberty.
- nedy78, on 06/10/2008, -1/+0Hey I like the man! Take it easy, take it easy. I'm just saying.....
- Sogui, on 06/10/2008, -2/+5This is within the margin for one of the polls, he has had a 6% lead many times, including this Feb/March. Every candidate gets a "bump" after favorable news like this, just like Obama will gain a large lead after the DNC and McCain will get a decent lead after the RNC. Bumps are temporary, bumps are expected, bumps are not a story.

he does, there is tones of video showing him saying and putting his hand over his heart. The photos in question are the National Anthem not the pledge. Obama 48% (+3)
McCain 42% (-4)
Margin of error: 2%
Rasmussen
Obama 50% (+4)
McCain 44% (-2)
Margin of error: 4% - Treoinmypocket, on 06/10/2008, -1/+26%? I've heard 7% but either way that isn't much of a bounce.
Kerry got 19% Dukakis got 14%, I think only Carter - who was actually the incumbent President got 7%.
This may show a problem because McCain hasn't even been in the news or been campaigning. - AsylumAleikum, on 06/10/2008, -3/+3This time of the presidential election cycle a democRat candidate usually has a double-digit lead. Dukakis was up by 17%, and still lost. Even unelectable Snobama is up by 6%.

but barack is totally a socialist. The next four years will be devastating to the democrats, they will have full power and people will really see who they are.

- dragonfire417, on 06/10/2008, -1/+2Just as I thought, a lot of thumbs down, but no real debate. How fitting, a bunch of people speaking arbitrarily about change - but no substance in their comments. Obama is a Marxist people, wake up.... before it is too late.
- greatgran1, on 06/10/2008, -2/+0Undoubtably,your seeking replies to build points on your McCain site.Let's just say,we disagree. You get your points.
- dragonfire417, on 06/10/2008, -0/+1I have no McCain site, and I live and work in the area by Trinity United Church. I have known this man (BHO) for years. He is not the clean cut savior everyone makes him out to be - he is a Marxist and will focus on minorities and aid to Africa. He has a record of this, and has said it frequently. I respectfully disagree with you.
- TubeDigger, on 06/10/2008, -2/+1The numbers here tell me the Republiconvicts are toying with the data. How could you possibly vote for a dunce puppet 'AGAIN!' when you need a strong leader with brains and good/nobel intentions. You fell asleep for the last elections be on point for this one.
- kigcoopa84, on 06/10/2008, -1/+2They should change the huffington post's name to the Hussein Post. Didn't all the "polls" say kerry was going to win?
