- tnyc1, on 03/18/2008, -0/+14Beautiful, powerful, he brings out the best in us, even in the most difficult times. I would be honored to have this man be my President.
- jmk4422, on 03/18/2008, -0/+4Wow: "For we have a choice in this country. We can accept a politics that breeds division, and conflict, and cynicism. We can tackle race only as spectacle – as we did in the OJ trial – or in the wake of tragedy, as we did in the aftermath of Katrina - or as fodder for the nightly news. We can play Reverend Wright’s sermons on every channel, every day and talk about them from now until the election, and make the only question in this campaign whether or not the American people think that I somehow believe or sympathize with his most offensive words. We can pounce on some gaffe by a Hillary supporter as evidence that she’s playing the race card, or we can speculate on whether white men will all flock to John McCain in the general election regardless of his policies.
"We can do that. But if we do, I can tell you that in the next election, we’ll be talking about some other distraction. And then another one. And then another one. And nothing will change." - SheilaNoya, on 03/18/2008, -0/+8Dignity, honor, values, principles, and true patriotism, all wrapped up in one extremely moving speech that came from the heart.
Obama's candor, honesty, and openess about this topic will set the tone for a new era. This speech was historic. - cg4et, on 03/18/2008, -0/+4This is a speech that will be studied by history students for the next hundred years, and beyond.
- LaLainKCMO, on 04/07/2008, -0/+0You got it - it's a powerful speech for a defining moment in our lives. How exciting is all of this?!
- JulyZerg, on 03/18/2008, -0/+4Man, I wish I could vote for him...
- djdavey, on 03/18/2008, -1/+3This was the one folks... look here... he took a bad scene and turned it around masterfully.
http://www.floort.com/show.php?fid=345&ftitle=Obam ... - kipmartin, on 03/18/2008, -0/+3i usually feel like im being forced to vote for the lesser of two evils. with this cycle, i believe im finally given the chance to vote for a man who is THE best man alive for the job. if you only read the first couple paragraphs and skimmed it like i did the first time i saw the speech text, take a few minutes and read it closer. its a GREAT speech. and yeah, i agree--people will be reading and discussing the implications of this speech for years. when Lyndon Johnson said his signing of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 would cause a societal rift for a generation, he was correct. but with this speech, those days are coming to an end. Obama is the real deal.
- AtHomeBoy2000, on 03/18/2008, -0/+6This is a speech that needs to be run in its entirety on every news show this evening. It is THAT important.
- JasonHears, on 03/18/2008, -0/+3I've heard people say they've been moved to tears by Obama speaking in the past, and quite frankly have dismissed it. While I've always considered him a powerful speaker, I've never been moved to tears by his speeches. This time, however, there were two moments when I started tearing up. Which for me could be akin to all-out weeping. It was truly a moving and powerful speech. One that, I hope, appeals to the good in all American's to overcome the divisiveness that pervades our politics and our country.
- hopeoverfear, on 03/19/2008, -0/+3I am really enamored with Obama and for someone as cynical as I have become, that is really saying something. I think he is the one candidate that has the will and the power to motivate real change by bringing ordinary people into the conversation in ways that have not happened before. When he says, "We can make a difference" I believe him. I only hope that the rest of America is listening!
- keebenpaul, on 03/19/2008, -3/+0Yes. We. Can! Too bad Chapelle isn't around anymore, the reparations jokes would be golden, Jerry.
- hostingpursual, on 03/19/2008, -2/+2I saw the speech today on MSNBC. I can say that I know where I was when the Late President Obama, gave his famous speech. It will go down in the history books. Personally, I think his best speech, or the one that really moved me, was the one he gave the night he Won South Carolina. I believe that was the moment that it was evident that this man would be the next President. I'm really glad to be living in this generation that actually will see History Be Made in 2009. Orale.
- MindyB, on 03/19/2008, -0/+2Now that is what a serious Presidential candidate sounds like! Not only was his speech powerful and courageous, but it was delivered with such dignity, respect and eloquence that anyone could see President of the United States of America in him.
Yes We Can!! - jeney110, on 03/19/2008, -2/+0in my opinion, he is a good leader. i like him very much. last weekend l saw he had a good chat with his buddy on wealthychats.com. it is interesting......
- nova912, on 03/19/2008, -0/+3I think he made a good point when he said (I paraphrase badly here): We have all been in congregations where our pastor, priest, or rabbi has said something that we do not personally agree with.
I stopped attending church about 10 years ago and for the most part have given up on all religion. However, I understand that the majority of people attending church do so to follow the general ideals of the religion, not the religious leader's personal views. - Dodblc, on 03/19/2008, -0/+1Man I do want to think this guys for real. My wife and I just left a church that we didnt agree with things being done.I do think that he might beabel to unify the partys. NEW school .Dosent have the old political bageg.I want to belave we can rise above the hattred off the partys. Its getting OLD.

- coachcaptain, on 03/21/2008, -1/+1Most of the time I have been disappointed with the candidates chosen by both parties. How many times I wondered why with all the clear eyed morally oriented intelligent capable people in this country we had to settle for mediocrity or wrong headed candidates. Finally we have a gem. It's been a long time since JFK.
- rigveda, on 03/26/2008, -2/+1MORE PERFECT UNION?! O you must mean merging the US as a junior puppet of the EU and starting a war against Russia.....OBAMA I KNEW YOU WERE A PHONY.
Obama's media induced groupies try to ignore the truth. gotta feel sorry for these black ppl that feel empowered by the Obama hoax.....

- Inkjam, on 04/15/2008, -0/+0I'm an American living in Germany, and someone sent me a link to the written speech. I cried while reading it!! What a mature and honorable way to respond to the media magnified "association" accusations with his pastor. Not only does he not let himself get backed into a corner, but he uses this situation as an opportunity to really lead the nation to a higher discourse on this very relevant subject. I am fascinated, not only by his personal story, which is simply amazing, but by what appears to me to be the deep calling and gifting to integration that comes from this history.
Hillary, although perhaps more polished and savvy, has neither been able to gain my trust nor inspire me. I've never been a Clinton fan, tried to read her autobiography (never finished the whiny, self-defending, explaining away all the mistakes of their time in office book), and of course i haven't followed her political career from over here, so I am certainly no judge of her character or competence, but there is just something missing that is crucial to me for the trust issue. And whatever that is, Obama seems to have it. It is all through this speech. Humility, transparency, not putting himself at arms length to the things that might be political disadvantages, but embracing his rather odd story and identity wholly and unabashedly. I have since found the whole speech on you tube. I am sure this was an historical moment in America.
Well, I hope I figure out a way to vote this year. For the first time in many elections, I actually want and am inspired to.
