- CruiseCarter, on 08/29/2008, -0/+1This issue hits home from two directions for me - When working at my first job out of high school, my employer slashed our wages to the point where it wasnt worth it anymore, and employees who had been there for years were essentially forcred to look for work elsewhere,and we were replaced with illegals willing to work for slave-like wages - Its not that these are jobs arent willing to do - Its that the companies would rather pay wages Americans cant live on. Years later, my uncle - an alcoholic/drug abuser who was always able to clean himself up now and then and work - was told by a social worker that he could recieve social security payments years before retirement age if he could prove he was unable to care for himself due to his addictions - they gave the man back pay, a 16,000 check to a man who had a taste for heroin. he didnt last long, he no longer had need to try to get his act together and sank into his indulgences and eventually, an overdose. The Social Security System is already broken, even without this added weight to a sinking ship. Washington bureaucrats are spending enough of our hard earned dollars, its time to send them a message that will let them know their business as usual is over.
