Mind you, I don't know the exact timeframe, but I do know that admin passwords and ftp passwords for website are often stored in cache, possibly on the notebooks that were stolen.

Campaigns will hire just about anyone; they tend to be fly-by-night operations with a heavy demand for bodies, on very short notice. Campaign offices also tend to be located in either affluent, professional downtown metro areas or--in my experience--the part of town on the wrong side of the tracks. My boss hired TWO office secretaries who've been locked up for attempted murder. Well, we didn't know that at the time, of course...

Last minute tricks do happen, even intra-party tricks. It doesn't make the papers. The night before E-Day is kind of like a grown-up mischief night for political operatives... best to stay out of trouble, and to sleep in your HQ with one eye open.

Now, with so much knee-jerk finger-pointing going on, it seems to me that stealing those laptops would be a dumb idea for Clinton, but a rather shrewd move coming from Obama. Of course, I don't think either of them did it. All I'm saying is that you're a damn fool if you let this sort of thing affect your judgment. Focus on the issues, or you leave yourself open to all kinds of underhand tactics.
