- voxlisa999, on 04/20/2008, -24/+46So now we have this in addition to Obama's website being hijacked by the Clinton Campaign, see the link below. This is NOT a hoax. Some idiot is posting a link to Cnet that it's a hoax that is 3 weeks old and has nothing to do with this. I saw it happen and you can to- there is a video in the story showing it happening. Does this mean Clinton is finished or just is just beginning the dirty tricks?http://digg.com/2008_us_elections/Obama_Website_Ha ...
- knumbknuts, on 04/20/2008, -7/+2Didn't the hacking happen the same night as the laptops are stolen?
2+2 = Mooks who stole laptops hacked the site. Not saying they aren't republicans or clintonites, I'm just pointing out the likelyhood of the events being connected. Mind you, I don't know the exact timeframe, but I do know that admin passwords and ftp passwords for website are often stored in cache, possibly on the notebooks that were stolen.
And, unless 2+2!=4, either Hillary is finished or the Dems are. - ileftfark, on 04/20/2008, -4/+17I'm not sure if you prove your credibility by linking to another story you submitted, although I give you props on the shameless self-promotion. - CTK14A, on 04/20/2008, -5/+71I've had my laptop stolen while working on a campaign. Yeah, there's the possibility of sabotage--but most likely, it's employee theft. Campaigns will hire just about anyone; they tend to be fly-by-night operations with a heavy demand for bodies, on very short notice. Campaign offices also tend to be located in either affluent, professional downtown metro areas or--in my experience--the part of town on the wrong side of the tracks. My boss hired TWO office secretaries who've been locked up for attempted murder. Well, we didn't know that at the time, of course...
- Simonft, on 04/20/2008, -2/+19Thank you for saying this. The person who posted the article seems to think that it was Hillary.

- lolbotomy, on 04/20/2008, -1/+9Your probably right that it's simple employee theft, but this quote from the article is kind of worrying ... "The computers have demographic information that the campaign uses to target voters." ... This could cost Obama votes if they were using these laptops and cellphones to contact PA voters on Monday and Tuesday the 22nd reminding people to vote.
- CTK14A, on 04/21/2008, -0/+3True. The trend has been to store this sensitive data in an online database, and back it up relentlessly, which (while still vulnerable to attack) at least can't be burglarized overnight and gone forever right before E-Day. Only amateurs would keep months worth of targeting data in-house where it can be stolen in seconds.
Last minute tricks do happen, even intra-party tricks. It doesn't make the papers. The night before E-Day is kind of like a grown-up mischief night for political operatives... best to stay out of trouble, and to sleep in your HQ with one eye open.
- CTK14A, on 04/21/2008, -0/+3True. - brokenspatula, on 04/20/2008, -35/+12obama supporters steal own computers, not surprising
- Shiftgood, on 04/20/2008, -5/+7yeah uh ... your logic? rationale?
5 bucks says your dad kicks the dog.- TomK88, on 04/20/2008, -0/+5It's definitely a possibility. Employees are generally the #1 suspects when it comes to theft.
- hambend, on 04/20/2008, -1/+1Karl Rove once planted a bug in his own office, "found" it, and reported it to the police. The resulting media storm dealt a huge blow to the opposition and won the election for, uh, whoever Rove was working for (more details in the documentary "Bush's Brain," but I don't have it on hand right now. Google video does).
Now, with so much knee-jerk finger-pointing going on, it seems to me that stealing those laptops would be a dumb idea for Clinton, but a rather shrewd move coming from Obama. Of course, I don't think either of them did it. All I'm saying is that you're a damn fool if you let this sort of thing affect your judgment. Focus on the issues, or you leave yourself open to all kinds of underhand tactics.
- bitcloud, on 04/20/2008, -1/+3do not feed the troll

- capj71, on 04/20/2008, -9/+35It is Allentown, I doubt it is sabatoge. It is probably just plain theft. Hillary Clinton doesn't need to do anything. Like it or not, and I don't, she is going to win here.
- rentmitchum, on 04/21/2008, -2/+3I hate Allentown. Even going near it to go to Dorney pisses me off. ***** 6 lane traffic, this is Pennsylvania. I don't need that *****, I live near amish people. I don't wanna deal with 6 lane traffic.
- cjshamrock, on 04/20/2008, -18/+3The dirty games have just begun. Expect more and worse in the General.
- breezytrees, on 04/21/2008, -0/+3true. Hillary could have stolen these laptops, thereby benefiting her. Obama could have also claimed that laptops were "stolen," obviously making hillary look bad in the process and thereby benefiting Obama. Even if they were stolen, we have no idea what was on those laptops. There could have been nothing... but the obama camp claimed otherwise to make it seem like there may be a conspiracy.
American politics at its finest.- breezytrees, on 04/21/2008, -0/+2to continue my point further (edit time ran out)... hillary could have stolen laptops/cellphones from obama office in a high crime area, to not raise red flags. Possibilities are endless. Neither party can be fingered because both parties can possibly benefit from the theft. As ordinary citizens, we really have no ***** clue what really happened, which is why stuff like this happens every single election. Someone always benefits, and the only people that know are the politicians involved :-/.

- DaDrake, on 04/20/2008, -2/+12Guys this isn't any organize effort by Hillary or McCain. In fact, this ***** happens every single election. Usually it involves radical young adults deranged on some sort of fame..... they envision them selfs taking down Goliath.
- bitcloud, on 04/20/2008, -0/+2i think the "deranged on some sort of fame" scenario happens less likely than we all like to believe...
- N256, on 04/20/2008, -2/+3Do you have any proof it wasn't by Hillary's or McCain's party? Let's not come to ANY conclusions until there is evidence.
- runCMD, on 04/20/2008, -1/+2It was the bitter middle-class. snicker-snicker.
- DaDrake, on 04/21/2008, -0/+0Its fairly stupid to ASSUME its Hillary or McCain and demand proof for their innocence. What ever happen to innocent till proven guilty?
- N256, on 04/21/2008, -0/+2I didn't assume it was Hillary or McCain. There is a big difference between assuming something happened, and not assuming it didn't.
- ileftfark, on 04/20/2008, -1/+75Dude, I live in Allentown. I can assure you anything not double-bolted and put in a fire-proof vault will be stolen at some time. His office was in Center City, where I had the pleasure of living for two years. In that time, my car was broken into twice, my house once, and my upstairs neighbor strangled his wife to death. Good times.
Anyway, the point is, before we pull out the tinfoil hats, please lets examine the context.
Allentown's crime rate (see robbery and burglary rates): http://snipurl.com/253a5 (snipurl cause digg munches long urls like junior bacon cheeseburgers)- ileftfark, on 04/20/2008, -0/+2Just for fun, here's more up-to-date stats on Allentown, courtesy of Wikipedia: http://snipurl.com/253bw

- GFX1003, on 04/21/2008, -0/+3I'm from Northampton which is about 10 min from Allentown. There are parts of Allentown that I wouldn't want to be walking around, even during the day. This news isn't all that surprising.
- diggelicious71, on 04/21/2008, -0/+1btw, tinyurl.com is much, much more common than snipurl.com!
- TomK88, on 04/20/2008, -2/+25I love this is automatically cast as some big sabotage. This is likely simple theft and has absolutely nothing to do with the political process. What was taken? Valuable electronics, that is it. You'll probably see those laptops and cell phones on eBay or in your local pawn shop in the next week or so.
- morcheeba, on 04/21/2008, -0/+3I agree. Sabotage would be hacking in to the database so that when voting day comes and they make the "remember to vote today" calls, they only reach pizza parlors.
- poopdigger, on 04/20/2008, -19/+3MORE DIRTY BILLARY TACTICS
- DEIx15x8, on 04/21/2008, -0/+1and Obama burned her one campaign office down. I wander who's crime is more severe. Why do you even talk? We all know both incidents were just natural occurrences. Not everything that happens is sabotage.
- vinnyvenus, on 04/20/2008, -0/+11This sounds like ordinary instead of sabotage
- vinnyvenus, on 04/20/2008, -0/+4Sorry about that. I meant say " This sound like an ordinary theft instead of a sabotage."
- Ceeman, on 04/20/2008, -2/+23Fun fact Watergate is a real place thats why the word gate is in there. Why does gate need to go with every other news post? Theft in Allentown would of worked just fine.
- SharkyTech, on 04/21/2008, -0/+2Agreed, 'gate' is not a suffix for scandal. The same sort of thing happened with Sputnik too, though. 'Nik' became a suffix for threatening or subversive ie. beatnik.

- thebellmaster1x, on 04/21/2008, -1/+5No, no, there's a pretty big difference. For example, a Paultard would automatically assume that the government stole the laptops to keep his message down.
As for me, an Obama supporter, I see absolutely no reason to blame this on Hillary or McCain. For God's sake. Laptops got stolen, oh noes! THAT totally can't happen without a conspiracy!
- SgtQuackers, on 04/20/2008, -2/+15Quit making up crap people there is no proof who did it. Stop blowing this out of proportion and just read the story as it is. There is nothing to even make people think it was more than just a burglary. Stop being conspiracy theorists.
- laserblazer, on 04/20/2008, -4/+1Yah, who could possibly form motive for such a precision burglary... hmmmm... now look what you've done... you made me abuse the ellipses.
- defska42, on 04/20/2008, -2/+1I agree. There is absolutely no proof that either Clinton or McCain's campaign had anything to do with this, and we cannot jump to conclusions. That being said, I would be honestly surprised to find out that neither one of them was behind this.

- mal1964, on 04/21/2008, -0/+2 The Obama crew 95% of the thread is saying to the other 5% thats its not a Hillary plot.
- Merrick178, on 04/21/2008, -1/+1Talking 'bout my gerneration...
- Cykill78, on 04/21/2008, -6/+1The only person who gains from this theft is Hillary Clinton. The Romans judges always used to ask the question "who gains?"
Well isn't it obvious?- slinky317, on 04/21/2008, -0/+2Or, some people who wanted new laptops and cell phones. I'd say they gained, too. Stop rushing to judgment.
- Pherdnut, on 04/21/2008, -0/+1Agreed. That's conspiracy reasoning there. Ignores the obvious in favor of the scandalous. Let's wait until somebody actually gets busted for campaign espionage.
- breezytrees, on 04/21/2008, -0/+1We can also deduce that Obama could benefit from this theft as well. Anti-hillary media attention is worth a lot in a close race. We can equally assume that nothing of value was on those laptops. We can also assume that no laptops were stolen at all.
- slinky317, on 04/21/2008, -0/+1Assumption junction, what's your fuuuunction?
- cbartlett, on 04/21/2008, -0/+2"Well we're living here in Allentown..."
- slinky317, on 04/21/2008, -0/+1What most democrats say about Bush: "He shouldn't be arresting people with no proof! Innocent until proven guilty, we shouldn't have witchhunts!"
And then they respond to the post with this: "Obama's headquarters broken into! It MUST have been Hillary! Burn the witch.. burn her!" -
